Happy Feet is a weird movie. No one can accuse director George Miller and his co-writers of playing it safe, but there are some genres - such as family-friendly animation - where adherence to conventions can be viewed as a positive trait. 75 minutes into the 105-minute movie, I thought I was watching the first great animated film since The Incredibles. The final half-hour disabused me of that notion. Taken in total, Happy Feet contains enough solid entertainment to be worth the price of admission, but the production's last act self-inflicted wounds do irreparable damage to what is an otherwise fine motion picture.

Sabrina

Great romantic drama from the 50s.

Sabrina belongs to the category of lightweight, undemanding romantic comedies that nobody did better than Hollywood in its glory years. It's the kind of film that's perfectly-suited for the unique magic of a black-and-white print (even the remake, although in color, feels like it's in black-and-white, relying heavily on atmosphere). Sabrina is playfully seductive, and will leave almost all viewers, even those as cold as Linus, with a smile on their lips and a warm glow in their hearts. Bogart and Hepburn rule even though the screenplay is just "meh".
Over the Top
(1987)
Stallone fans can give this a go.

Over the Top isn't a bad movie but just an alright one about a trucker(played by Sly) who wishes to get close to his kid- who sort of doesn't like him, as they go about on a road trip of sorts. There are some nice scenery and lets be honest- Stallone has that face, or perhaps its his eyes- which make you wanna root for him, and feel sorry for him if bad stuff happens. This is a decent film to watch, especially if you wanna go through Stallone's filmography but it isn't a great Stallone movie.
The Descendants

One of the better recent films The Descendants is about a man who tries to reconnect with his daughters and sort things out after his wife is critically injured in a boating accident. Alexander Payne has surely become a voice to be reckoned with, and each new film of his brings about a new layer of complexity to his work. George Clooney manages to show us that he indeed a good actor when in his element and both Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller are exceptional as his daughters. The setting is gorgeous Hawaii and although this isn't a "visual" film per se there is a symphony of sorts between the emotions of the main characters and the seas and plains of Hawaii. This is one unmissable film.

City Slickers 2 is a western comedy and that in itself should make you want to see it. How many films are there in this sub genre? But the casual happy go lucky performances from Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern and Jon Lovitz make this a winner all the way. Though nowhere as good as the original City Slickers is a great diversion from the chaotic world of today. Get lost in the Texan sun and early 90s charm.
Shutter Island
(2010)
Scorsese tackles a different genre.

Martin Scorsese continues to impress, and Shutter Island is a film that has some astonishing sequences. There is one scene in a storm which literally took my breadth away and made me feel as if I was right there. Of course, the story is based on a graphic novel and by now the usual collaborator for Scorsese- Leo Di Caprio plays the main lead. Ably supported by Mark Ruffalo Shutter Island is not the usual Scorsese film which is character based- It is tense and atmospheric. Watch it.
