Most Haunted (2002)
Confirmation for the True Believer: Entertainment for the Stoic Skeptic
Whether you subscribe to spiritualism and an afterlife, or (like me) remain skeptical about the existence of anything beyond natural life, this show will have something for you. It may be hard to accept that an inn is haunted based on a few flashing lights that may or may not be glitches in the crew's film equipment, but when the medium gives out uncannily accurate information without (reportedly) being up on the local history, or every other word of the cameraman is being bleeped out because he's so scared, it's hard to think there isn't SOMETHING going on. And even if you remain unmoved by all this, it's exciting to watch everyone being scared out of their wits. Who cares if there's nothing to the spirit world? Old British castles, wavery cameras, and dark, crowded rooms are scary...in a more refined way.
Thief II: The Metal Age (2000)
We need more games like this
Thief TDP was good...the Metal Age was absolutely incredible! I was hoping I would have a chance to play more people-based missions (e.g. breaking-and-entering, espionage), and sure enough that's what happened.
I'll never forget the heart-stopping, nail-biting tension of pulling such crazed stunts like breaking into the Sheriff's home, tailing a police woman through the streets of the city, and getting the low-down on some rich-guys home...ALL while avoiding detection and stealing as much money as you can carry.
And the intricacy of some levels was unbelievable. Running through the city streets like a hunted animal, getting from the inn back to your home on the other end of town while the City Watch march on was FUN! I do wish Looking Glass had beefed up the ending a little bit, but here are the four amazing levels that make this game what it is:
Ambush! (Level 4)
Sheriff Truart's Home
The Lost City
Casing the Joint (Bram Gervacious' Home)
You'll see what I mean when you get there.
