Wonka (2023)
Whimsical, imaginative and fun
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I listened to some of the songs before I watched it and thought they were quite forgettable. However, watching the songs in the movie was a different experience.
The humor is not the laugh out loud kind but still made me chuckle here and there. There were some poignant parts, some adventure, some excitement. The set was colorful. There were of course absurd parts, quite reminiscent to some of other Roald Dahl's works, like Matilda for instance, which was magical and filled me with wonder and joy. Wonka did feel a lot like one of his works. I think Dahl would have approved of this.
I came home and watched Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But I must say I enjoyed Wonka better...
Travelers (2016)
Needs a season 4
Great series! I binged watched all 3 seasons in 3 days. Wish there were more.
I love the characters. They are all vulnerable and have their own battles to fight. But the series has never explored their back stories. We only know a little of 0115 (Trevor), that's all. It's not enough. Why is 3465 (Carly) always so angry? What was 3326 (Phil) before he took this drug addict host? There is absolutely no back story about the main character 3468 (Mac). I love David and Marcy the most! Their ending seems satisfactory but we know that's David and the real Marcy, not 3569. Would love to know 3569's backstory too. And also why their names are numbers.
So many unanswered questions, not enough seasons to cover them. Give us season 4!
Paper Girls (2022)
PG13 has so much foul language?
Couldn't continue after the 1st episode. It has more foul language than Snowpiercer and Snowpiercer is M18. I think it would be easier to watch without so many F-words.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Why so many haters?
Do people not like to laugh in the movie theaters anymore? What did they expect from Waititi after Ragnarok?
This was exactly what I expected and it did not disappoint. I missed not having Loki and The Grandmaster, but it was still fun! I can't wait to watch this few more times with subtitles when it comes out on Disney+!
Dragons: The Nine Realms (2021)
Season 2 and 3 are great!
When I watched the first season I thought it didn't have the wit and charm of Race to the Edge but it really got better in season 2 and 3 when the characters become more familiar with one another. And finally there are familiar dragons! Terrible terrors, razorwhip, skrill, monstrous nightmare! This is great! I'm like Fishlegs now, excitedly shouting, "it's a monstrous nightmare! A stoker class dragon! Jun and her brother Eugene reminds me so much of Heather and Dagur. And there is a mystery Tom is searching for that I suspect connects to Hiccup and Toothless.
If you are a dragon fan, you have to watch it!
The Batman (2022)
A Detective in a Batman Costume
Fortunately for me, I like mystery detective movies. It's just that I wasn't expecting that when I went to watch this. Robert Pattinson is good looking so I'd rather watch the whole serial-killer mystery without the batman mask and some some sunlight. I was always waiting for him to spring into some action since he was all dressed to kill... but he was only going around getting clues.
The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (2022)
I didn't laugh at all
The jokes were not funny at all! I dozed off and when I was awake, I couldn't wait for it to end. My 11-year-old daughter laughed at some parts while playing with her phone. I think she laughed to please her dad because he suggested watching it together as a family.
Eternals (2021)
Humans not involved so I couldn't relate
Eternals, celestials, deviants... I don't know them. This movie was like Transformers fighting among themselves but WITHOUT humans involved at all. It was hard to get invested.
Maybe they should have told the story in Dane's POV and put that one man's life in danger from the Deviants or something... I just wanted to care for one human being at least.
Hawkeye (2021)
It's about an entitled white kid becoming a superhero
I'm really trying to like Kate Bishop. But I dunno how I'm gonna like a white rich kid that has everything and is good at everything but acts irresponsibly, and still thinks the world of herself. Hoping she'll grow on me somehow.
Maybe if she sang in Rogers the Musical.
tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Beautiful tribute to Larson
I loved Larson's songs. The melodies felt familiar and somewhat surprising at the same time. Some songs were funny, some were poignant. Made me laugh, made me cry.
Many famous theatre cameos turned up to pay tribute. I was excited to spot them and yet touched that they did this for Jonathan, to remember him.
Only Murders in the Building: The Boy from 6B (2021)
Weird that Oliver can be so quiet
I appreciated what they were stylistically trying to do for this episode. Interesting, but it is so out of the character for the characters to be so silent. Especially when they were snooping in places where there was nobody else around! Oliver would have normally yapped away about his podcast albeit in whispered tones.
To think I had to fight with my daughter for the earphones to watch this episode!
Also, Nathan Lane's ASL needs some work. He signed "I look at you" when he's saying "I look after you".
Spin (2021)
Felt sad for Max
Max taught her everything she knew! So, he forgot to give her credit but he said he would post it. She was unforgiving, cut him off, won the competition and didn't credit him for all he taught her. He was second runner-up which means she learnt from the best. If he was bad for not crediting her, she was no better than he was. I had to tell my daughters not to model themselves after Rhea.
Men in Black: International (2019)
I watched this after Ragnarok
Don't know why all the bad reviews. I thought this was better than some of the other Men in Black sequels I fell asleep watching. I only gave Men in Black a chance again because of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson and it was a fun ride.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
My favorite marvel movie
I dunno why I keep watching this again and again. Even my family watches with me for the tenth time after saying, "Ragnarok again?!!"
Then we'll repeat all the funny lines and laugh...
This movie makes me happy.
And Thor is so handsome here, with his hair short.
