Palm Springs (2020)
Loved it!
This movie is a gem!
With its blend of humor and heart, impeccable writing, stellar performances, and undeniable chemistry between Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, it was nothing short of magical, drawing viewers into their world and making them root for their characters from the very beginning. But it's not just the performances that make this film a standout; it's also the writing and directing that deserve praise. The screenplay blends humor and heart beautifully and the director captured the essence the story with style and beauty. This film is an absolute delight. Plus, it's highly rewatchable, making it a standout in its genre. Overall, a fantastic flick that hits all the right notes.
The Holdovers (2023)
Had so much potential
This film has incredible acting and directing, with Paul Giamatti delivering an absolutely brilliant performance. The visual aesthetic effectively and instantly transports viewers to the time period. My biggest gripe with the film is the writing. Though the ending was great, it lacked a climax point and that's where the film fell flat for me. I was hoping for a moment reminiscent of memorable speech like the one delivered by Al Pacino in "Scent of a Woman." The choice of a subtle dinner scene didn't quite work for me. Despite this, the movie remains enjoyable, showcasing incredible talent and holding the potential for greatness.
Bookie (2023)
Instant classic!
This show is truly exceptional! My commendations to the writers, producers, and actors for this remarkable gift. In an era where our comedy landscape seemed withered, apart from the brilliance of Ted Lasso, nothing has left a lasting comedic impression-until now. This show resurrects the genre brilliantly! It's intelligent, hilarious, raw, and refreshingly unpredictable. Every moment was a joy, and I can't wait for future seasons. I hope this show inspires other comedic writers and actors to re-enter the scene, and bring back the comedic joy viewers crave. Give it a watch, you won't regret it!
Le dernier mercenaire (2021)
Fun flick with incredible action scenes
This movie is fun, action packed and is visually stunning! JCVD came to play! To pull off the stunts and scenes he's doing is difficult at any age but at his, it's damn near impossible! Yet, JC pulls it all off brilliantly. The supporting cast is great and complimented him nicely. As seen in the trailer and mentioned already, visually this movie is beautiful. Paris never looked so good and I loved that they didn't do the shaky cam for fight scenes, gave viewers exactly what they came for and didn't cheat them out of quality action sequences. They could have easily shaven off about 20-25 minutes of dialogue. I'm sure it was intended to highten the stakes but honestly, it just took time away from the real reason people came to see this film: Van Damme doing his thing. All in all, great flick.
Warrior (2011)
Good film, but not a masterpiece
Many call this film a masterpiece, I disagree. It is good movie but not without faults. From a story perspective, there are a few things that didn't add up and others was just too cliche. However, there are parts of this movie that really hit hard emotionally and thats due to the incredible performances of the three main actors. Nick Nolte steals every scene and both Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton were flawless in both the drama and especially the action sequences. The fight scenes are probably the best shot and edited from any that I can recall in recent history. The look and feel of these fights added a layer of realism that kept me engaged until the credits rolled.
Overall, it is this film is a little too long but is
definitely a worthwhile watch. I personally prefer "The Fighter" over this film but that's just me.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Beautiful looking movie, terrible writing
The movie looks beautiful, cinematography and costume design specifically is at the highest level. The biggest problem of this movie is the script. It lacked focus and charm that the original movie gave us. Akeem is not the protagonist of this story even though he is presented as one and the actual protagonist is not very interesting. There are way too many side characters that are over the top and also very distracting. I have seen the original over 20 times, I don't know if I'll see the sequel again.
The Wrong Missy (2020)
Lauren Lapkus wins!
It's a rom-com from Happy Madison, enough said. Haters, calm down, they weren't going for an Oscar with this one. Lauren Lapkus is a clear stand out here, she made me laugh out loud quite a few times, and stole the entire film.
Brigada: Naslednik (2012)
Weak!
This is a terrible follow up to the the beloved tv series that captured the post Soviet Russia Time period perfectly. This movie lacked everything that the tv series had going for it, writing, acting, directing, editing and soundtrack. I understand why K. Guseva returned to reprise her role as Olya, and she was the best part of this film, everything else was was garbage.
