Venom (2018)
It's way better than critics say it is
Venom is a hugely popular character so Sony had a lot of fans to please and if you ask me they did it just about perfectly because they painstakingly adhere to the original storyline but without having Spider-Man in it which is also a good thing because if Spider-Man were in this movie he'd draw all of the audience's focus away from Venom. Tom Hardy was the ideal choice to play Eddie Brock, the CGI is so well done if people didn't know that the creatures in the movie didn't exist they'd probably think that they were actually there. They set up the sequel perfectly by in the post-credit scene having it show Eddie interviewing Cletus Kasady and Cletus saying "When I get out of here, there will be carnage." Although I do think this movie would benefit a lot from an R rating
Halloween (2018)
John Carpenter is definitely proud
I guess it helps that John Carptenter worked as an executive producer on this film but this was easily the best of the entire franchise, there are some offscreen kills but they reveal the bodies in horrifically brutal ways which is awesome, Jamie Lee Curtis delivers an incredible performance as Laurie Strode, the acting from all of the other characters was great, the movie does have a fair amount of jumpscares which I normally hate but they had the jumpscares done in such a way that it was legitimately scary instead of just startling, and the best thing was the way they build suspense throughout the movie
The Predator (2018)
Shane Black tried his best
Shane Black tried his best to make this a good movie but it wasn't great like the rest of the series apart from AVP, he didn't spend near enough time building suspense before the action scenes, the editing between scenes is confusing, the CGI in this movie is horrendous to the point where 2010's Predators had better CGI, and the plot makes absolutely no sense. But on the bright side the characters are funny for a lot of the time and they remain consistant throughout the movie. The new Predator is definetly badass and it's cool that Shane tried to add more to the Predator mythology and more reasoning behind why the Predators take both the spines and skulls of their victims was interesting but there is slim to no character growth throughout the movie besides the main character, Quin Maccana, and his son, Rory Maccana, however Shane gives you more than enough time to get to know the characters and so there is plenty of emotion behind when they die and I'll be honest the acting was pretty good; sure slim to none of them show any fear toward the new Predator but they are supposed to be psychopaths so it makes sense that their fear wouldn't register... bottom line this is a very mediocre movie it's better than either AVP movie but still it's a bad movie
It (2017)
Scariest movie since the original
So this is a brutal, suspense filled horror movie that Steven King himself probably loved and much like Tim Curry, Bill Skarsgård stays in character in character throughout the entirety of the movie. Although I feel that they went a little too far out of their way to make Pennywise scarier in this than the original. Also Georgie's death was incredible and horrifically gruesome, the way Pennywise bites off Georgie's arm and when Georgie struggles to crawl away was great
AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Good idea, bad execution
They really should've paid more attention to the previously established media involving the Predators and Aliens and the comics because this movie ignores everything that all of the original comics and movies established except for the Predator's Sense of honor in the hunt. In the first two Predator movies it's established that the Predators are attracted to high levels of heat and conflict but this movie takes place in Antarctica for some reason; also in this movie it's stated that the fight between Aliens and Predators has been going on since Egyptian times which contradicts the other movies' timelines, the aliens mature into full grown Xenomorphs in a matter of seconds instead of a matter of hours like in all of the other movies prior to this one, continuity pretty much doesn't exist in this movie, the dialog was horrendous; without all of the humans freaking out this movie could've been like 30 minutes Long, two of the three Predators were incabable of killing their prey, it's painfully obvious when they switch between CGI and animatronics for the Aliens
If you're a fan of cool alien fight scenes this movie has a few which are cool but that's about the only good thing this movie has to offer. So bottom line if you've never seen this movie and you're a fan of the Alien and Predator franchises keep it that way, stay as far away from this movie as possible
Get Out (2017)
Amazing
This movie is amazing; it is obviously a commentary on racism, the acting is phenomenal; did you know that Daniel Kaluuya (the actor who plays Chris) is actually British but he managed to hide his accent seamlessly through out the movie I actually didn't know that until someone told me, they introduce hypnosis which is really cool, the characters make smart decisions like when Chris picks cotton from a chair he was tied to and uses said cotton to plug his ears to keep himself from being hypnotized, It gives you plenty of time to get to know the characters, and the kills are unique but it's not a slasher with kills every five minutes all of the kills actually happen in the last act of the movie
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
What I expected and what I got
So I was very hesitant to watch this movie because going into this movie I was expecting it so be like the crappy remake of Black Christmas but this movie was great, the CGI blood was not great in fact it's really obvious that it's not really there but it was 2009 what do you expect? The kills were awesome, the plot is easy to follow, and the killer doesn't end up being who you will expect it to be if you've seen the original.
Deadpool (2016)
Funny and brutal
Now this movie may have had what some would call " a paper thin plot" and "A cookie cutter villain" those were actually deliberate choices by the studio. Ryan Reynolds was beyond the perfect choice to play Wade Wilson. Personally my favorite part of the movie was when Deadpool had Francis (Ajax) pinned to the ground and was about to shoot him in the face Colossus starts giving a speech about how it only takes about 4 or 5 moments to be a hero but you can tell Deadpool doesn't care so he shoots and kills Francis anyway
but they did make some changes to Deadpool's backstory but that doesn't detract from the movie one bit; like in Deadpool's original backstory Ajax didn't manage the workshop that gave Deadpool his powers he was the assistant to Doctor Killbrew, in the original backstory Deadpool was handed over to the weapon X program, or how in the original backstory the "deadpool" was a gambling ring that Dr. Killbrew's other prisoners formed where they would place bets on each other's survival under the knife but again none of these changes detract from the movie in the slightest.
AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (2007)
Bad, but at least it's a little better than the first AVP movie
While this movie was a good idea it has some huge plot holes, boring dialog, they don't spend enough time building suspense before deaths, while the characters are recognizable they were lame, and the worst thing is you can barely see what happens during the movie unless you know how to turn the brightness up on whatever you're watching on
But there are things that I found legitimately enjoyable about this movie; while there was only one Predator in this film unlike 2 of the 3 from the last movie he could kill these aliens with ease and his gadgets are badass, the Predalien was really cool and when it faced off against the Predator on top of the hospital when we were getting close to the climax was a genuinely awesome fight, they killed off the annoying pointless girlfriend character in a memorable scene where the Predator threw two smart disks which decapitated two Xenomorphs and then pinned the pointless girlfriend character to the wall of the hospital that the Predalien was trying to use to build a hive, the Predator actually takes trophies like skins from people when he kills them, there is consistency with the Predators and Aliens in this movie, they follow the tradition of having the Predator drop all of his weapons and unmask for a fight. In conclusion while (like the first AVP movie) this is a very mediocre film it's better than the first in my opinion
Alien³ (1992)
This gets too much hate
Look this movie gets way too much hate because they killed off Ripley and Newt But it was a good movie; the cast was memorable, the xenomorph was legitimately scary, they subvert a lot of expectations, Sigourney Weaver delivered an incredible performance as Ripley; like always, the effects were great, and the suspense is well done. Granted there are a TON of plot holes in this movie but it's still enjoyable
Leprechaun 3 (1995)
This is where the series embraces what makes people really enjoy it
OK so this is easily the best movie in this entire series and that's because this is the movie where the series embraces the fact that these movies are just so freaking terrible that they actually end up being entertaining, which is probably why all of the movies in this series after 1 and 2 were released direct to DVD
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Ridley Scott at his finest
So I actually loved this movie especially how it gave more backstory to the xenomorphs, like how they came into existence; because nothing could evolve into becoming a "perfect organism" like they describe in the movies though it was pretty obvious that David killed Walter or maybe he took over his body or something off Camera if you pay attention. The Neomorphs and Protomorphs are badass despite the fact that they are clearly less intelligent than the xenomorph species we all know and love. And like all of the movies it frequently builds a lot of suspense to an epic pay off
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
Good but then it goes downhill
So this movie had a lot of potential, the first act of this movie was good. The characters are unique with all of their peculiar abilities, the acting is good, the cgi they used to make the monsters is pretty good despite the fact that the monsters were obvious knockoffs of Slenderman. But the romance that builds between the two protagonists is not very believable the "climax" wasn't anything to get that excited for, the end sequence where what's his name was basically traveling through time to get back to his friends made very little sense
Predators (2010)
As amazing as the original
I love the original Predator and all of the movies in the series. And I will never get tired of watching that one or this one again and again. However the only thing I have a small problem with in this movie is that Danny Trejo got killed off screen. But if you don't know much about the Predator mythos you'd better start studying up, because the Predators or Yautja we see in this movie were obviously bad bloods, who were either banished from Yautja Prime or were sentenced to death for a crime but escaped
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
This is easily the worst movie to have the name "Nightmare on Elm Street"
I hate this movie, this is a good idea that wound up being horribly executed. Having Jackie Earle Haley play Freddy Krueger was a great idea but in this movie he wasn't trying in the slightest literally if you look at his face while Freddy is on camera he's just kind of staring off into space without even showing emotion at all. They changed Freddy's backstory so that he was a pedophile who worked and slept in the basement of a kindergarten, Only one of the characters had the same name as Nancy but she had a different last name. They recycled a couple of jokes but none of them were as good as when Robert Englund did them, the CGI in this movie made the special effects in the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" look state of the art by comparison, but the absolute worst thing about this movie is that the only horror in this movie is a bunch of jumpscares and it's so obvious when they're about to happen that they won't even startle you
Predator (1987)
Timelessly amazing
There are plenty of things that work with this movie like in the first major action scene Dutch and his team dispatch the guerillas with ease so you get a sense that this is just gonna be another runofthemill action movie but after the guerillas are killed the movie shifts to a slowly paced movie. Another thing that works is the look and abilities of the Predator itself, and how all of the characters are different kinds of badass and resourceful
Skyscraper (2018)
Looks good
Dwane Johnson's career has been going very well lately, and this looks like a great action movie
Cult of Chucky (2017)
This movie deserved a theatrical release
Ee This movie deserved a theatrical release and so did curse of Chucky, the acting from all of the characters was amazing whether it was how Fiona Douraf was playing Nica Pierce, Nica being possessed by Charles Lee Ray, the practical effects were absolutely amazing, and as always Brad Douraf did an amazing job playing Chucky
Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)
Great addition to the series
Okay I love the tremors series and this movie hit all of the right notes for me, the CGI was incredible especially for a direct to video release, the acting was solid, one thing I love is that the title is a call back to a line in "Tremors 3: Back to Perfection" and the fact that they called back to several of the movies at different times in this movie and bloodlines
