From Scratch (2022)
So incredibly bad
So cliched. So lame. Who would even find this plausible or entertaining? I agree that the actress does not seem appropriate for the role. She seems overly stiff, bone thin in an unattractive way ( like it's been forced) and totally at odds with her roommates. No wonder I guess if the other reviewer was right with the age differences. And her character in this story is pretty horrible anyways. So shallow and clueless, who the hell accepts a full multi course meal gratis at a chefs restaurant with 2 of her friends when she knows he has a crush on her AND sets up a date with her " boyfriend" the same night at that restaurant? It beggars belief. She repeats her classless behaviour by bringing her parents there AND that godammed boyfriend. Again. To that restaurant. Perhaps the only saving grace so far, is we don't see her no doubt terrible art creations.
Coroner (2019)
Interesting
Picks up a bit after the first episode. I am now finding the stories are getting more improbable and convoluted as they go on, pretty typical of a lot of tv series, I find. They do at least mix in natural deaths with homicides, lending at least a little bit of an air of reality. I wouldn't have pegged the main character as a thirty year old, guess I missed out on that, her son looks like he's 20 something. There's some basic logistical issues, like the fact that she lives in Dundas and everyone seems to go back and forth pretty readily, not totally realistic in my experience. I don't always get a sense of the neighbourhoods they are in, Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods, maybe they are intentionally keeping things ambiguous. They do seem, to avoid certain neighbourhoods altogether like Chinatown on Spadina. Maybe it was just too hard to film there. I find it hilarious that people are complaining about the diversity and about everything being grey, both things reflect Toronto truthfully. Toronto can be a very ugly place, but it's where a lot of people live, and it's not too uncommon to walk around the city and hardly hear any English spoken. We probably do have a larger than average gay/lesbian/trans community here.
The Grinch (2018)
A more little kid friendly version
It's much more mild, calm and childlike than the agressive Jim Carey version, which I honestly loathed. I do think it was lacking zip when he was stealing Xmas stuff, that was very clearly in the original story, and I preferred the townsfolk gathering around the tree to sing as in the original story. Making the grinch a bit meaner/spiteful would have pushed it up in enjoability for me. It was just a bit bland, like cheap marble cheddar compared to an aged better quality one lol. But it seems very safe for kids who might get overwhelmed by too much anger, and I like the fact that the grinch was very much a redeemable person by the end, my son always loved the grinch when he was very little, I think that reflects a child's abaility to see people openly and be forgiving, so kudos on that.
Bird on a Wire (1990)
So much shrieking, moaning etc.
It hasn't aged well. Mel Gibson in a mullet. Goldie Hawn playing the part of a useless shrieking female who is so dumb she is constantly putting everyone in danger. Shriek! Shriek! Shriek! Fine for brainless entertainment, lots of up the skirt shots etc.
The Reliant (2019)
Ridiculous.
" Christian" and pro gun. Scenes/scenarios right of evangelical tracts. Hateful main female protagonist. They could have slipped some Christianity in there, god knows other movies have done that, and it might have been just a part of character development etc. . But coupled with the bald gun promotion, the stupid characters and implausible story line, this movie is fairly unwatchable. Also wanted to rip that stupid giant scarf off the main girls neck. Somehow it's the apocalypse and we still manage to keep highlights in our hair, accessorize, and wear lipstick.
The Boss Baby: Back in Business (2018)
Hideous
The whining, the constant noise, the poop jokes, the cat hate, this is one of the most moronic and hateful kids shows. I literally feel a migraine coming on while it is playing. It seems to conform to a new breed of kids show which has to run at a ridiculous nonsensical pace with a lot of noise as if they are terrified kids attention will waver in the slightest.
Northern Rescue (2019)
Who is leaving 10 star reviews??
Very very average, guess you could call it family friendly, but is it really? I was watching because I had a migraine and couldn't move or think too hard about anything. The dad is one of the most wooden faced guys I have seen for a while, up there with Travolta. When some of the actors cry, you can actually see them working themselves up to the task, it is embarrassing to watch. The elegizing of the mom is kind of sickening, but understandable given that they are grieving I guess. The aunt is portrayed as the typical loser in life, stupid haircut too much eyeliner or whatever it is she wears, and sports t like someone from the 90's, sooooo formulaic. The dad, does not really parent, he is like the proverbial bull in a china shop at work too. No wonder his kids are so angry and wafting around so directionlessly. If he is an example of good parenting than I don't know what to say.
All I See Is You (2016)
Interesting
Maybe the reviews here reflect people's personal experiences and how they related to the story. I liked it for the most part. I'm actually surprised about people feeling the female lead was a cruel bXXX. I can only imagine regaining eyesight would dramatically alter someone's perception and have inevitable ripple effects on everyone and everything in their life. And sadly, yes, a lot of guys get very upset when they feel like they aren't in control of their partners, the people they work with etc. etc. and may not behave very well, what more needs to be said?
The Rain (2018)
Confusing, trite, more kid hate...
We have the same stupid plot movers here, dumb kids doing dumb things (it makes you wonder if these dumb script writers have ever been around kids or even just have been kids, I'm serious), and then somehow Poof! A stupid little kid who can't listen to basic instructions (Where is my Marker!! Oh Where is my Marker!! Apocalyptic rain.. What?) and draws dinosaurs and rockets in his spare time becomes a gangling teen who is shaving, in 5/6 years? WTH? My son moved out of the dinosaur phase around kindergarten, add 5/6 years and that does not make a 6' (possibly) teen who has to shave. Even if he was 7. So basically the writers are inferring he's a super immature kid. Yep, I guess that's plausible. Same goes for his sister. She's in high school I'd guess but hasn't the smarts to not kill her own mother (I guess maybe she's Daddy's girl who gives no s--s about her Mom). And then EVEN after being warned of roaming gangs of cannibal zombies in the city they are travelling through, they can't help but have a picnic in the Burger King. Obviously, Buger King helped finance this show, as they spend an unnecessary time featuring the logo, and talking about burgers etc. Honestly WTF? It's as baldly out of place as the Intel ad in the Last Mimsy. Jeese Louise. I think teens might like it as they may not have the same history of movie/TV as older people to compare it against. And the music sucks, sounds like non English speakers singing English. Good to watch if you aren't too critical/need something brainless.
