K-12 (2019)
The songs were lovely, but...
I loved the songs, truly. Loved High School Sweethearts the most. However, I've no clue what was happening or why it was? Nothing was really explained. I feel like she was trying to cram too many political & empowering messages in the one thing, which took up too much time & took away from what was little of an actual plot. All I know is, Kelly's a bully, Melanie & friends have psychic powers, they want to destroy the school, they got away with murdering someone's dad "the principal", and they want to blow up the school. But there's not exactly much plot around it. Just major events happening.
Doctor Who: It Takes You Away (2018)
No bad guy?
What happened to thrilling villains! The only bad guys seem to be humans. AGAIN. Honestly just bored. Tried to get interested but I end up just missing Capaldi.
Doctor Who: Demons of the Punjab (2018)
I actually really enjoyed this. Why so many negative reviews?
Gave a good story for the companions (would've loved more Graham). Wish there was more of a threat which is my only complaint. Let's hope the episodes get better from here on up.
Doctor Who: The Tsuranga Conundrum (2018)
Started well..
I did enjoy this episode - to an extent. It started off rather interesting. But there wasn't much humour. The humour in Doctor Who has always been something that gives the show extra spark. Graham is currently the only companion I seem to care about right now. There was a small sense of threat in this episode, yet it wasn't as great as the guest characters hadn't been fully developed yet meaning that I didn't worry as much about losing them.
The plot line with the siblings was quite boring yet could've had potential to be something better. For example if the illness was better hidden by her, it could have been a shock when she died. Or even if it was better executed, you could've felt sympathy when she died. The brother didn't even seem to care when she died - either that or I was picking up the wrong vibes.
Losing the Tardis again wasn't as interesting a plot either. I do like the fact the Doctor had a lack of control in that sense and had struggle, but it had already been done in the first two episodes.
In last year's Oxygen, there was a feeling of true threat. And the Doctor even ended up blind by the end of it, a twist I didn't think was going to happen which made things actually a threat (which lead up to another amazing episode, Extremis, that had me hooked). I just feel like things seem too easy and predictable right now.
The pregnancy storyline was quite boring as well. Again, I found it rather difficult to actually care about the situation since there seemed to be a genuine lack of care. It would've been cool to actually have proper aliens instead of aliens who look like humans but aren't. Not much explaining went into Ryan's dad leaving which was disappointing. This could've been an opportunity to see a much more vulnerable side to him (more into that shown in the first episode). It would've also been nice to see Ryan and Graham bonding.
A further nitpick would've been if there was more mystery to the monster instead of it being a small goblin thing. There's more threat when you don't know what it is or what it wants. But that's just me nitpicking at this point and isn't a true complaint. Also the fact the Pting was too cute to be taken seriously was a bit meh, my younger cousin who is seven wasn't scared of it and just said "awww".
However, the positives of the episode. I did like the set used, the acting from Jodie and Bradley, as well as (strangely enough) the James Charles looking Android. The hospital was an interesting concept. Just feel a bit let down. This episode and the second had my interest lost. With more episodes however like Rosa and The Woman Who Fell to Earth, this show could get better ratings.
