Mediocrely good
28 April 2024
Was expecting it to be like a 10 out of 10 as Band of Brothers, but aside from all the good camerawork, set & wardrobe design and CGi, so many characters are crammed into these 8 episode and so many of them just appeared and disappeared without too much character development. I understand the history needs to memorize all these heroes, and all of them are equally deserve a time slot in the show, no matter black or white, politically correct, but it just dragged down the show itself. At the end I didn't know what I had been watching in these 8 episodes, I'd rather watch a History Channel documentary about Allies Airforce than this one.

The Curse (2023– )
8/10
One of the best finales ever
24 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's a little boring, it's a little cringy, and it's a little bit awesome to see a wonderful actress actually "act" in a show inside of a show, it's a hard watch, but I just couldn't stop watching, it has a satirical stance to the world we are living in nowadays, and it has a A24 feeling with it, which is kinda lowkey cool like the movie Witch

The protagonist keeps on dwelling into that innocent little girl's "curse", but through out the show it apparently did nothing to them, the real curse is the TV show and the pretentious and fake lifestyle and fake helping people fake interaction that came with it, and people would just blindly believe everything as long as it is on camera. And that is what CURSE trying to tell us through this tragicomedic story

In the end the curses for them are lifted, as Asher ascended himself and all the scenes of Asher are resemblance to the birth of the child, the struggling, the pulling, the cutting and in the end he transcended into rebirth, he didn't need to act like someone he was not anymore. And he finally got a taste of what they have always offered to people in their TV show, which is fake help from the firefighters which the receiver doesn't really want.

And the green queen Whitney finally have a real life purpose (the new born baby) instead of pretentious project and life for TV show, and finally Asher who he doesn't love anymore is gone for her. For Dougie he finally remorse for all the things he had done and exploiting other people's crisis including the death of her wife. The birth of the baby revert all their toxic relationship.

The end is a beautiful visual storytelling, a little bit David Lynch, going beyond logic and going a little deep. It might as well be one of the greatest TV finales in the history.

There is one sentence Asher said in the show at the end when they having dinner: "Art is about, I mean sometimes you have to go to extreme lengths to make your point."

So is going up all the way into the galaxy enough lengths for you audiences?

This is NOT even close to Borat
28 May 2023
You can't compare it to Borat, it is not even close to Borat. Borat is a character created by sarcastic genius Sasha Baren Cohen to poke the boundary and absurdity of so called American Identity, so as other character he created, such as Ali G, Bruno, these characters all appears in his TV series on a frequent basis, so people would get what he is trying to do behind of those jokes.

In Borat the movie at least in the end it is a sarcastic retort to all the aspect in the US, that US is actually not as good as it seems. It's about embracing American value goes wrong. But Vive le France is just a shallow imitation. In the end it's about embracing the French value. That's why the racial appropriation in This movie is very inappropriate and very discriminating.

Should we be who we really are?
10 July 2021
"Be who you really are!" This slogan, which has been pushed by the West to the position of absolute truth, has no ethical and moral justice, just as the evil deeds of the hero are the real result of their own, the postmodern modern society is often faced with such a difficult problem: we are shrewd in all knowledge, but at the same time shake the foundation of good and evil, there is no more good and evil, if not the buffer of all kinds of traditional forces, that rational, scientific, godless new world, is a terrible hell, is a way for no one to guide. Everyone will have to be in a state of displeasionment under the desire of the naked self.

The Western world's "God is dead" makes ethics the measurements of interests and norms of violence. Without interests, without violent machines such as the police, there will be no place for morals.

In the dense forest, after the white-faced god who hears the cry for help and defys his own life dies, how will morality save us?

As a Khyentse directed movie, Hema Hema points directly to human nature. It makes us think that there is no possibility of relief, whether in the norm of others or in our own desires, and that only endless reincarnations keep making choices that will not be right in any case. We suddenly found that the Buddha, who had proved his way under the Bodhi tree two thousand years ago, was so right that no matter how free you were, if you left the right guidance, what else end you would be getting, but commiting fouls again and again.

Twenty-four years later, the hero wearing a double-sided mask back to the dense forest, a joy and a sorrow, the main face is sad, because he still has the knot in his heart, the back is happy, because after all, he seems to have some understanding in his heart.

Finally he was willing to take off his mask and begin the road of redemption.

Has potential to be renaissance classic, but it turns out to be just a mediocre time killer
22 May 2020
Okay movie for fun watching, it really has a potential to be a classic like old Jackie Chan Hong Kong action comedy movie....but it does not.

The movie sets out to be a comedy due to the design of the first scene. But there is no comedy in all the fights. The fatness just be there for the sake of fatness...there is not a single scene of Yen fighting with his fatness as a comedy point or disadvantage, (for an example, after he jump from one roof to another, the director actually can make it more fun and he can break the roof and fall through or stuck in the hole for further comedy effect) but after he got fat he fights exactly as he used to as agile as it can be even flying, cmon man....The Bruce Lee reference is also there for no relation...so whats the point ?

Kurdistan Western
15 May 2020
A good Kurdistan Western movie...but I don't like the hidden political messages. The sign of Pepperland and Police are all on English, they like western music, wearing western hat when shot down the local chief. As only the western ideology can save the people there.

Poem lies in everything
14 May 2020
Everything in life, even as mundane or small as it might be, can be poetic. A: Are you also a poet? B: No, I am just a bus driver. C: You know this can be a poem for William Carlos Williams. A subtle mind blowing movie which itself is like a poem only the people who understands understands :)

Kept me watching until the end
18 May 2019
The first half I will give it a 8, I just couldn't stop watching the fakumentary, the suspense is good even though a lot of things are not logical for such a jungle trek, but movies are for entertainment at the end of the day....

The second half, after the dino is out, omg I never thought it would go out like this, it could literally be much better if it is another story, I will just give it a 4, but it still kept me watching though...so averagely it's a 6, a nice B Movie...

Everlasting
11 February 2019
It's basically another version of Notebook in the darkest age of new China. A romance after dark. A history we haven't experienced and nearly forgotten but a history we should all remember. The story is not related due to my age, but I still couldn't help crying when watching this film, not just for the helplessness of the time, but more.for the everlasting love.

Absoluetely amazing
29 August 2018
That ending! oh my Korowai....been to the Baliem Valley, the center of West Papua where the people there were discovered 40 years earlier than Korowai, already a lifetime experience for me.

This series not only shows the wonderful part of the culture, but also the other influences that all of the people from modern world went there brought to the culture. We are just all humans.
