It's a Wonderful Movie
27 March 2021
Although 74 years have passed since it was released, its core message continues to stay true until this very day: don't give up, ever, "no man is a failure who has friends". Every person is important, the influence one soul has on so many other lives is incontestable, yet many of us tend to forget that pretty quickly and give in to despair... I love how the script, the director captured this perfectly and more so, the characters fit like a glove on the actors. This movie is like a breathe of fresh air that doesn't cease to touch you in some way every time you watch it.

Mary Shelley (2017)
8/10
An Interesting Biography Movie
27 March 2021
One of those well-wrapped biography movies executed in a brilliant manner.

Besides the fact that Elle Fanning played Mary Shelley so splendidly, the film depicted exactly what I was looking for, namely the life behind the creation of Frankenstein. My opinion still stands that she is one of the most real and original authors of all time, I've finished her masterpiece (Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus) in a little over 3 days (I think it was during my HS junior year's spring break or close to that) and who would've thought I could relate so much to this novel written 200 years ago.

It blows my mind to think that work like this is eternal, and people will read it 200 years from now on too (and of course, produce and watch movies and series based on it).

Back to the movie now, I didn't fathom before that the author experienced so much tragedy, I knew some general facts but never bothered to read more about her life and this movie opened my eyes. Although it's pretty logic, how could a 18 years old illustrate in detail such depths of despair other than having experienced it first hand? Which is both sad and remarkable, that she pushed through the anguish and expressed all of it in an epic creation.

They also used the last sentence of the book as the last line of the movie: "He was soon borne away by the waves and lost in darkness and distance." and such details were here and there through the movie and that fully completes it.

Just now it occurred to me that her husband, Percy, a few years after the book's release, had a tragic death during a storm while at sea... that line seeming to fit his situation as well, which must have been even more painful for Mary.

As a downside, on one hand, I think they could've shown more of how she actually wrote the novel because at some point (1 hour in or so) I started to become a bit impatient about the awaited moment of how her work on Frankenstein begins. On the other side, it's all the little moments until then that led to her creating one of the best human nature exploring novel.

In the conclusion, I just cannot imagine how the world would've looked like without Frankenstein's monster, it's such a prominent character, I've learned about it since infancy, all the animations, movies, stories, the Halloween itself wouldn't be the same. And to think that she was rejected by various publishers because the novel's themes were too "grotesque/gruesome" or just by the plain fact that she was a woman. I'm so grateful her father decided to publish a new edition that contained her name unlike the first one that she managed to publish anonymously.

12 Monkeys (2015–2018)
10/10
Masterpiece Time Travel Tv Show
25 June 2018
One of my greatest regrets regarding TV shows, is that I didn't watch 12 Monkeys sooner. It surpassed any expectation I could have about it, although the beginning of the first season didn't look that promising (maybe it had a slow pace, maybe too little things were explained), oh well, the sequels surely are totally worth watching. 12 Monkeys is so complex so well defined when you look at it as a whole, the plot, the ideas and themes expressed through brilliant acting... I know, it sounds too good, but it is really one of the most underestimated good sci-fi TV show, and it should receive all the appreciation for every amazing element it contains. Also, it's extremely sad to see that it has such a low rating on IMDB just because of the ratings it has received in 2015, after only 1 or just 3 episodes appeared... when this TV show has a lot more to offer and it should've been "judged" at least after the entire 1st season. And it's not only that... I saw that many people complained how they liked the 1995 movie but the tv series disappointed them and I think that they simply can't be compared, it started with the same concept but there are lots of differences and the show really went with the story on its own way. I think they should've given it a chance and wait for more episodes before rating it with 1 or 2 stars...
