The Outwaters (2022)
Do not watch if prone to seizures
I feel like this could have been a much better movie if you could see what was going on. The total darkness did not work in the films favour. Because of the darkness during all the main action/scare sequences, and lack of exposition, you are left with no understanding of what is happening/ what has happened and why.
There were some truly beautiful scenic shots, and the actors gave amazing performances, but with too much time spent on minor character details and backstory that did not end up becoming relevant to the plot as a whole, that the pay off was not worth it. In the end, I feel like the movies potential was also eclipsed by the darkness, and they could have benefitted making a different creative decision for the night sequences.
It was additionally hampered by the decisions of how shaky and out of focus the camera was for the found footage. Its possible it was because of budget constraints, and if so, I hope the writer/director revisits this project in a future where there is more funding.
Overall, the ending shot with the heads and the rest of the sequence was beautiful, and I wish I could have seen the lead up so that it had more of an impact. Do not watch if you are prone to seizures, as there are many flashing light sequences.
Prey (2022)
Don't be swayed by the bad reviews
It was obvious what the majority of the bad reviews of this film were going to say. Don't waste your time reading them.
This instalment of the predator franchise had phenomenal kills, an insane level of gore, and an amazing new design for the yautja. There was very dynamic camera work in the fight scenes, and overall gorgeous cinematography. The simplicity of the core plot: a coming of age story of a girl trying to find her place in the world, really grounds the entire movie. If all that doesn't convince you, the ending fight sequence solidifies this movie as the best instalment since the original. Not a battle of brawn, but a battle of who is the better, smarter hunter.
My one critique would be the cgi of the animals fell flat at times against an otherwise beautiful movie.
Basically if you are a fan of the original predator and not a fragile white male who is threatened by not seeing himself at the center of every film, you will enjoy this movie.
Fear the Walking Dead: Mourning Cloak (2022)
I honestly just feel bad for the actors
At this point, it's sad to watch. As an actor, you can only give so much in a performance of a script this badly written. These people's talents are wasted.
The Circle: Identity Theft (2021)
Justice for Michelle
What was done to Michelle was absolutely horrible, and should never have been a plot line. To not only have to go home, but to go home after seeing someone make up stories using aspects of your life, it was so u comfortable to watch. Not to mention the people who kicked her out were immensely unlikable.
Fear the Walking Dead: Six Hours (2021)
When will AMC nobody likes Morgan or Grace
It's safe to say the audience's opinion of Morgan Jones had soured towards the end of his tenure in the Walking Dead, and plummeted as he continued on to Fear. And the fact that he is not the worst character now shows how HORRIBLE Grace is as a character (the baby also adds nothing but annoyance).
