Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)
What a splendid film
Make me feel so proud when a gem like this comes every once in a while. From the start to finish the film keeps momentum.
What great acting by everyone especially the talented Ms Kangana, absolute joy. Makes me feel very proud of our heritage and I just loved the Delhi setting (the real Delhi & village life too).
Most of us are fed so much drivel with expensive and exotic locations/make believe fantasy rubbish these days, including over acting superstars that its films like these that remind us what is good about the industry.
Great acting, brilliant direction, locations, cinematography and music. Just do your self a favour & watch with your other half (if you have one that is - if not, still watch it.)
We need to support productions like this. Great film and I hope you all enjoy it.
Ishqiya (2010)
Fantastic Film!
This is what a good movie is all about - The authentic setting of village life with beautiful cinematography, the 3 main starts were perfect - I for one could not picture any other actress alive in Hindi cinema that could have delivered the role what Vidya played. Everything could be read from her emotions without her saying anything.
You know how good a film is when you can read and feel each character as they interact with each other - almost as good as a book.
Without spoiling the film I urge everyone to watch this gem and really do wish it wins awards it deserves. Hindi cinema needs to embrace these new type of film styles - were all fed up with rich brats in foreign lands scenario. Hope YC and KJ are taking a note from these clever films - you don't need mega stars or million dollar budgets to produce a film.
Whats refreshing is most people who have posted a review have said similar things. So I am glad I am not alone when I think Hindi Cinema needs to encourage directors/writers that produce films like these.
9/10
Life Partner (2009)
Awful Awful Awful - Save yourself and do something else
I just have one question? How do they make money with this kind of garbage - This is Bollywood at its worst. The acting the OTT scenes - the rich spoilt main characters as per usual lately. I mean are all well off Indians behave this way? - I mean take some responsibility of a serious subject - the ending I mean, is laughable - what on earth are these writers/producers on? I carried on watching it (on DVD) to see how bad it could get. Gobinda is as annoying as ever and Fardeen (anyone know why he shakes his head as though hes got some nerve damage?) Fardeen and Gobinda are two prime Idiots who are trying to resurrect their career by playing their fantasies as playboys. Dulha Mil Gaya, this and also Money Hai to Honey Hai - very similar poor directing/story/acting. Every film seems to have a night club scene.
Back to the film - it does not make sense at all - with characters changing their life long views at a drop of a hat and suddenly everything is great.
Avoid
Dev.D (2009)
Good Start - Poor slow ending
Firstly I've rated this 7 out of 10, film starts off well enough but I think its too long - about 45 minutes too long. We know Dev drinks alcohol/drugs but must we watch this and digest this non stop for a further 45mins? Would have been a decent modern classic, but its just too long and I myself started to lose interest after the intermission because of the above.
The film does tackle some real life events which have been documented in reviews and I think its a good lesson for everyone esp young people. How a silly simple mistake can turn your world upside down and the dangers of ego, drink, drugs etc.
The part I didn't like was when Chanda spoke to her father in that tone and language - Id hate to think this portraying as the norm in modern Indian continent.
I also found Dev's character souless, with hardly any feeling for his family or anyone else. Except for both women!
