It's Suppertime! (2017)
Matty is a Chef apart
Truly refreshing. The censorship is a tad annoying though. The experience is very down home and highly enlightening. For many years I have watched "cooking shows". This is what I've been waiting for. A Canuck to boot, eh!
Vampire (2011)
Not your usual fare, but worth the watch
Sure feels like Vancouver, BC during the dreary days, which creates the appropriate mood for the flick. Its title unfortunately associates it with some real stinkers. It is not one of those. I don't know where the movie fits, but it leaves a significant after-taste. I use these user reviews to help decide whether or not I will watch the movie. If you do too, then it's a watcher, but strangely so. It feels Canadian, as in raw and hand-held sort of. Acting is solid, and the story keeps your attention. Vampire, no. Sanguine something, perhaps. It should not be castigated just because it is not polished to the extreme, and all tricked out with CGI.
Kiss of the Damned (2012)
Diamond in the rough
Visually, nice and dark, as it should be, and cinematographically surprising, considering the rating.
It is underrated to be sure. The group that created and carried through with this work should be encouraged to continue. This is not the usual treatment of the subject matter, and was a highly worthwhile viewing experience for me. This one is different, and enjoyably so. There are rough spots, of course, but on balance, it has earned its place. I am glad that I have been reading user reviews of late, because bare IMDb ratings have not consistently been reliable guides, especially in non-blockbuster situations.
