Disturbing ..... and ultimately pointless.
4 June 2018
The opening credits feature some morbidly obese women dancing naked and it's enough to make you vomit. And I see not point why this is in the picture. The rest of movie is a study in strong violence and language, so if you like lots of "f" words and brutal violence, then this is the movie for you. And then they throw in some Evangelical Christian bashing directed it at Laura Linney's character and once again there is no point for this being in the movie at all. I think they tried to make a shocker like Silence Lambs or Blue Velvet, but it just didn't work for me.

The Identical (2014)
8/10
A Spiritual Experience
21 May 2018
To cut to the chase, this is an alternate life movie about Elvis. The star of the movie has a shocking resemblance to Elvis both physically & vocally. The music is fantastic ..... makes you want to get up & dance!! The production values are fine and Ray Liotta is, of course, always watchable in any movie. And I appreciated the fact they did an accurate (and respectful) view of Evangelical Christian life in years gone by. I found myself getting renewed and refreshed in my spirit as I viewed this picture. The star of the movie is seeking to find God's direction & purpose in his life thru his music ability. How he handles this journey thru life is one of the most spiritually satisfying times I've ever had in front of a DVD player. I was a bit disappointed in the last quarter of the film, but overall a very enjoyable movie. Rated PG, but no questionable material.

Cover Up (1984–1985)
7/10
great original program that was too short lived
18 October 2017
This CBS television series was totally 80s. I was 14 when it came out. Beautiful women, a cool action hero, what's not to like. I don't believe it's available for purchase, but there's low quality episodes on youtube. Jon-Erik Hexum's death was such a tragedy. I still enjoyed the series with Hamilton, but Hexum was the #1 choice for obvious reasons. The series will seem dated and even a bit silly by today's standards, but it was hot stuff in 1984. Elizabeth Daily's singing of "Holding Out for a Hero" is better than Bonnie Tyler's, but I don't see the song available for purchase either.

The Sound of Music Live! (2013 TV Special)
Fantastic production and I just loved it!!
6 December 2013
As a 40-something would-be tough guy, I like to think I'm Han Solo stuck in the 21st century so I sure as hell ain't gonna watch a girly show like The Sound of Music. After avoiding this program all these years I finally sat down and watched Carrie Underwood's version on Thursday night after seeing it advertised on my local NBC news. I figured I should make an effort to get in touch with the world of performing arts.

This presentation of The Sound of Music was wonderful. Now, I didn't know the storyline nor the original music, so for me, this was a blessing. Great singing, sets, costumes; just a fantastic production all around. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Carrie Underwood is really pretty, too.

Firewall (2006)
9/10
Firewall is excellent
16 February 2006
Firewall is so good and the script so realistic that it's downright disturbing at times. I admit that Ford is my personal favorite motion picture actor, so of course, I'm biased. But this film goes to a level I've never been.

Ford plays Jack Stanfield who is Director of Corporate Security for a bank in Washington State. I read complaints that Ford can only play tough guys and not computer geniuses. I think he does fine in Firewall. Don't forget that Ford himself is a very intelligent individual and he also has done well playing CIA officers and medical doctors with great success in the past.

The bad guys take Mr. Stanfield's family hostage and force him to assist them in robbing his own bank. The terror to his family is very intense. At times, the psychological terror for me was almost overwelming. The scene when Bettany's character orders one of his men to physically injure Stanfield young son to force him to cooperate is true terror on the silver screen to me. Ford's acting in that scene is about the best he's ever done. That scene and later when they refused to help the child with a breathing problem on two occasions was upsetting. It gave me nightmares of my own sons being mistreated.

This film is so good, so subtle, and so realistic that mature, responsible viewers like myself will be enthralled. Those looking for mindless action will be displeased. It's nice to see Mr. Ford working again after a 3 year absence.

Random Hearts (1999)
10/10
Random Hearts is deep and powerful.
13 December 2005
I really wonder why everybody dumps on this film. I thought it was excellent. If Ford stars in it how bad can it be. It's a story of 2 people who are deeply touched by an emotional event beyond their control and then help each other rebuild their lives. Until one has been cut to the bone by romantic betrayal they cannot fully appreciate the depth and power of this film. My favorite scenes are when Ford and Thomas first meet at her home and then later at his cabin in the woods. The locations for this film are great also such as the home of a well-to-do couple like Coyote & Thomas and then in the Maryland wilderness. My only struggle with this film is how Ford's character stays in his grief so long. I think if it were me I would have rebounded upon developing a new relationship. But that's just me.

The Skulls II (2002 Video)
10/10
Skulls 2 is a hit ; a real sleeper!!
13 December 2005
Excellent film that is much better than the original. Robin Dunne has so much more appeal than Joshua Jackson. I wonder why Dunne doesn't get better roles? Maybe he needs a new agent. The film features Dunne as Ryan Sommers, an Ivy League stud who is tapped for a secret society called The Skulls. Joining this club is a dream come true for every hot-blooded college man and at first all is well. Then when Ryan witnesses the death of another student, all kinds of danger and deception occur. This film is so good, it makes me want to go back to high school and study more for the SAT so I can get into Yale. Anyway, Sommers' love interest Kelly played by Lindy Booth is also very appealing. Listen to the closing credits music as well. It's quite good. I definitely recommend this film to others.
