Christmas at the Plaza (2019)
One of the better and higher budget Hallmark movies
As we all know Hallmark mass produces cheesy Christmas movies. Some are better than others and this is one of them. The story is outside of the typical norms for Hallmark movies - there is no Christmas festival that needs saving, there is no widow who is looking for love, high school sweethearts do not reconnect, etc. Instead this has a very unique story that takes place at The Plaza Hotel in NYC and it's my understanding they actually filmed there and it's very beautiful to look at. Plus, the male and female leads are beautiful to look at too haha. This is definitely one of my fave Hallmark movies and I have watched just about all of them so that says a lot.
Saved by the Bell (2020)
Trying way too hard
I was soooo looking forward to this reboot because I grew up watching the original. This just tries wayyyy too hard to be woke and politically correct. I'm a person of color and found the constant making fun of white people ridiculous and offensive. Content like this serves no purpose, but making the racial divide in this country worse. What a complete disappointment and waste of time.
The Golden Girls: Blanche's Little Girl (1988)
Too many fat jokes
I absolutely adore The Golden Girls, but the fat shaming in this episode is too much. I'm not overweight, but all I kept thinking while watching is how upsetting this episode must be to someone who struggles with their weight or has body image issues. It's like insult after insult about obesity and was cringeworthy. I hope the actress who played Blanches daughter was highly compensated.
Deliver by Christmas (2020)
Flat and boring
I love Hallmark Christmas movies, but this is a dud. I wanted to like it because I was thrilled to see more POC represented, but the lead actor has no chemistry with the lead actress. It just dragged on. I watched it til the end, but I was tempted to shut it off many times. Too bad.
Christmas Coach (2019)
Absolutely terrible
I love Hallmark Christmas movies, but this one is God awful. This is actually the first one I could not even finish watching. The casting and acting are just wrong. Definitely do not judge the entire genre by this dud.
