Memorable soundtrack, imagery and moments of simply being
12 August 2020
Powerful, poetic, quiet, simple. I feel in love with the Australian landscape again, and wanted to go outback once more.

Self determination goes a long way

This film shows me that if you give people the privilege to make the most of their lives (and culture), you give the same people the best opportunity of living their lives meaningfully and being fulfilled. Now Australia, we just need to invest in that.

The courage, the talent and the humanity
20 July 2020
I find it fascinating that Anh is so creative (in many pursuits) and is able to maintain humanity with his guests whilst being so creative. A wonderful concept, one that I find calming to watch.

A creative action leads to powerful impacts
18 July 2020
The above statement can refer to both the movie and to when it happened in the 80's. A simple innocuous looking movie at first, shows to me, the powerful impacts of common grassroots activism and powerful filmmaking, when done creatively. Powerful, sad, inspiring.

A movie flowing with heart...
13 July 2020
Some movies helps us see that when our hearts are switched on and we are vulnerable, then we are more likely to have greater intimacy with our loved ones. This movie did that for me with great acting (loved Jack Black's character here) and the quirky use of trailers.

A funny, feel good that shows family unity, sibling support, quirky fashion sense, an array of characters, hilarious accents and an unique storyline. Bravo!

Perfect! Just what I needed

I found this movie to have a great lesson about commitment, alongside great acting, script and infused with good humour. I like the lead actors personas, the relationship between father and son and find it remarkable that this is the two directors (and writers - they are the same) debut movie. Great stuff!!

Just Mercy (2019)

Brilliant that this movie exists!
25 January 2020
Having read the book, "Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption", I kept reflecting during the movie if a mainstream movie could do justice to how I was so inspired by the book to work towards bringing opportunities and privileges (and justice) to the disenfranchised and vulnerable. I like the movie, I cried at the process of an execution and the vulnerability of that, and I loved that this movie does expose some social justice content to the mainstream. The book, however, took me to greater depths and introduced me to the greater philosophy, beliefs and journey of Bryan, and whose simple words 'I am not my worst behaviour', has been a motto for me when I deal with clients. I was also deeply moved by the depth of cases in the book, particularly the impacts of child incarceration. As a follow up, I read Ray Hinton's book (who is one of three prisoner showcased in the movie), 'The Sun does Shine', which brilliantly sheds insights into his nearly thirty years on death row. I hope the movie inspires the mainstream and future social justice advocates to lend effort or advocate in social justice streams, or to read the book or watch one of the youtube videos on Bryan Stevenson or Ray Hinton.
