Halo: Aleria (2024)
Calm before the storm.
The previous episode, Reach, was epic. Aleria feels like a filler episode, necessary to tie up loose ends. Nothing much happens really, but we get closure for Vannak's death and Riz's already struggling story. When it comes to Kwan's story I have to honestly say that in the previous season her story didn't grasp me that much. But it seems like there's more to her than meets the eye. What happened to Kwan on Aleria is building up to something bigger.
Honestly the best parts of this episode wasn't the rather slow story, but the anticipation of what is to come. This episode made me excited for what happens next, and that's good enough for me.
Liaison (2023)
Intriguing concept
So far the story is quite intriguing. Yes, it is a typical spy thriller, but if well done I think spy thrillers can be very entertaining even if they follow cliches and tropes (Jack Ryan does this very well). So far this series is a mix between "Jack Ryan" and "Slow Horses".
Vincent Cassel and Eva Green are great actors and they can make this a worthwhile watch even if the story is quite predictable so far and does rely on the typical cadence of spy thrillers.
If you watch it, I recommend not using the "English" audio setting as they decided to dub the French, Arab and Russian dialogue in this setting and it's horrible. If you select the "French (France)" audio setting you get English dialogue in English, French in french, Arab in Arab and Russian in Russian - just makes the international atmosphere much more authentic instead of dubbing everything to English.
The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
Taking a random story, slapping a big name on it. Netflix has become the evil it swore to destroy.
I barely write reviews. But this isn't a review, this is a warning. Netflix took the most generic, boring and quite frankly sloppy written story and slapped the amazing wither name on it. Whatever happened to good story arcs?
Netflix you are antagonizing millions of fans with this. The Witcher is deeply rooted in Slavic, Central European, Germanic and Eastern European folk mythology. Where is that in blood origin? I get wanting to make a diverse cast. What I don't get is why Netflix hates the source material so much.
This was the last straw for me. Blood origin made me cancel my Netflix. And I'm convincing everyone around me to do the same.
Hawkeye: Partners, Am I Right? (2021)
Hollywood's problem with foreign languages
I don"t know what language that was supposed to be that Hawkeye's wife was uttering, but it was not German or any other human language. I really don't understand how it is so hard in our interconnected world to find someone to translate a line and coach an actor one single line in a foreign language. American ignorance at its finest.
Truth Be Told: Other People's Tears Are Only Water (2021)
More caricature than character
I am sorry but none of the characters are believable. All of them are exaggerated whether it is pronunciation, socio economic and racial cliches or simple behaviour. This series wants to point out social injustices, prejudice and inequalities but no one can take this serious as all of the characters are so obviously acted over the top and simply thrive on the social cliches they incorporate. A caricature of racial loaded American values and society, nothing else.
