Underbelly: Vanishing Act: Episode #1.1 (2022)
Season 1, Episode 1
6/10
Wasted potential
3 April 2022
Disappointment is all I felt while watching the first episode of the latest underbelly instalment. A great cast of both old and new faces, an interesting backstory to explore and build upon, yet a confusing, directionless and bland final product.

I am especially taken aback by the acting quality. This series is almost a whose who of the Australian television industry over the last few decades, yet many performances come across as uninspired and subdued.

Unfortunately, it seems some time since the 9network has produced a engaging drama. Fortunately other Australian networks are producing higher quality drama still. Your time would be better invested in one of those dramas.

Pom Poko (1994)
7/10
A enjoyable and meaningful movie in it's own right.

Pom Poko is an enjoyable and meaningful movie in it's own right. It's interesting to see a take on urban development and destruction of habitat from the (mostly, apart from the talking) realistic perspective of racoons who live there. This film is perhaps not on the same scale as other titles from this studio, however, Pom Poko is a beautiful movie in and of its self.

WandaVision (2021)

Intriguing concept, bold venture.

Wandavision is a very intriguing concept, a mix of classical sitcom and MCU shenanigans. The production seems quite a bold venture given how unique the shows premise is for the current climate of television and consumer interests. Wandavision is well produced, however, does seem to still be finding it's feet.

Pretty Bad

Is this an actual 'blockbuster' movie? The DC movies 'Justice League' or 'Suicide Squad' watch like holy water compared to WW84. The only aspect of this movie I truly enjoyed was its visuals.

1917 (2019)

In my top 5 movies of all time
17 October 2020
The film 1917 is in my best 5 movies of all time. To the reviewers citing the films 'limited battle scenes' or 'limited shooting & explosions,' you would be correct. However, you seem to be missing the objective of this film. 1917 shies away from more chaotic battle scenes in favour of conveying a human story. It focuses on mate-ship, the horror of war, bravery, loss, atrocity, solitude, repression, and so on. 1917 conveys its message with a somewhat masterful touch. If you are hoping for a war flick packed to the rafters with action, try films like 'Hacksaw Ridge' or 'Saving Private Ryan.' 1917 provides a realistic take on warfare. It does not provide extensive battles nor does it have any intention of doing so.

A good sci-fi series. Best to watch it detached from the BNW expectations

A Confession (2019)
8/10
A eye-opener series for many
27 October 2019
A Confession gives a realistic, nitty-gritty sense of depth and insight into murder cases in Europe. The series is concerned as to the effects these situations have inside family's as well as professional conduct and legislation within the police force. Many viewers have pointed out both the slow paced environment of this series as well as the use of handheld camerawork. The measured pace adopted by this series lends itself to establish a sensation of realism which the show aims to convey in a powerful manner as it immerses the audience into the world of those affected. The choice of camera direction from the creatives of the show does lead to this sensation of realism over the course of the series as well, however, it can at some points feel overdone or unnecessary.

Overall, 'A confession' is a solid example of a crime tv series which aims to convey a murder instance grounded in realism.

Feels like the classic era

Very reminicent of the 60s-70s era being the threat comes to earth, in which my opinion was a golden age. Solid episode.
