I loved it, but ...
12 December 2021
Only if there's a season two. If not, don't waste your time. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and story. The characters and pace. It was a bit like breaking bad as in a good man going from bad to worse given the situation he's found himself in. But the last episode was it's undoing unless they plan on a second season to let us know what happens to everyone. Having said that I can't see enough storyline for a whole season, just one episode to put us out of our misery. Not knowing how it ends is a killer. Does he live? Does he get away with it? Does he blab to the police. Does he confess it was him? All easily answered in one more episode. But dont wait twelve months to wrap it up please.

Sick of bad endings
14 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Why is it so many great shows are ending badly or unsatisfactorily in recent years? Ten weeks of gripping, although at times unbelievable, tv viewing to end the way it did is insulting not to mention annoying. I couldn't work out how he was going to get away with the plan and it seems Hollywood couldn't either. So they served up the most disappointing and frustrating endings of all time. Boo hoo to the makers of this series for not thinking about a decent and satisfying ending before releasing it. And wasting and overdoing the great talent of Bryan Cranston.

Subtitles?
13 September 2019
Do I have my subtitle settings wrong or are there none at all when Japanese is spoken? It's ruining the show. Too lengthy to be idle chat we need to know what they're saying. It might make more sense.

Subtitles?
2 September 2019
So far it's pretty good. I did expect it to be a continuation of season one which was fantastic. I'm prepared to keep going with this one but feel a lot of the Japanese dialogue should be subtitled. I dont think it's just idle chitchat that we don't need to know about. Does anyone know if it is supposed to be subtitled and I just dont have my settings right??

What was I thinking
9 October 2009
I too had waited a long time to see this film. As far as I know it has never been released in Australia so in the end I found a copy on the net and ordered it through there. Weeks after my order confirmation it finally arrived and I was extremely excited to finally be sitting in front of my TV ready to watch a film that sounded so interesting and controversial and filmed in an area of the world where so many good movies are. What a disappointment. Within the first few minutes I realised I'd ordered a B Grader but was still full of expectation. I convinced my son (18) to watch it with me as I love sharing when I find a movie of value with good underlying statements and/or story lines. About half way through he got up and said he couldn't stand watching it any longer, it was so predictable and amateurish. I agreed but watched to the end. The acting was atrocious even for B Grade standards. The stereotyping also predictable and I feel for the good folks of Lake Arthur, Louisianna who must've cringed after seeing the film depicting them in such a way. No doubt some racial prejudices still exist in many parts of the world not just the States but really, in this day and age I doubt they'd get away with all the ridiculous alibi's presented in this. I had to double check the date the film was made as their attempts at gimmicky filming of the more gruesome scenes was something I'd expect from a high school student's first attempt at making a film 'indy' like. I'd like to see this film put into the hands of experienced scriptwriters and film makers, its an old tale but one that could still pack a punch if dealt with professionally. So disappointed after such a long wait and with such high expectations. The soundtrack was probably the only thing I enjoyed.

DVD finally
31 March 2009
This was one of the best Aussie mini series I'd ever seen, and finally it has been released on DVD!! Don't miss it. Robyn Nevin's outstanding performance as Shasta is Academy Award winning material. She cracks me up with her brilliant outbursts and facial expressions. The first two episodes are slightly dated but the rest of the series will have you hooked if for no other reason than to watch Shasta age and become more bitter yet funnier with her taunts and criticisms of everything and everyone. At the same time you see the underlying reason for her critical opinions and feel for her. Her performance has stuck in my mind since the show was first aired on TV back in 1980 and finally seeing it again I was not disappointed, it is as brilliant as I had remembered it. Best Christmas present I received this year without a doubt.
