The Morton Downey Jr. Show (1987)
Genius
Downey set the trend for every tabloid "talk show" that followed.
In the late 1980's a fellow police officer of mine, Robert Machete was killed in the line of duty. Downey did an entire hour dedicated to the memory of Bobby so it may be placed on video and given to Bobby's young daughter to have for when she was older. It was one of the most benevolent things I have ever saw a media symbol accomplish.
Downey wasn't popular with the left-winged liberals due to his love of country and calling every so-called civil activist out i.e. Al Sharpton and the likes. His in your face attitude, and the journalists award he was given he used as an ash tray (it looked like a punch bowl) was priceless.
Downey is sorely missed!
Dead and Alive: The Race for Gus Farace (1991)
Last words of the movie
As in the New York magazine, and in the movie they have an error:
1) New York magazine has a Detective from the 62 Pct stating when asked by a reporter, "How did he (Farace) look?" "Dead" States the detective, "What do you mean dead?", "Dead is dead" states the detective. 2) In the movie they have a DEA agent stating that to another DEA agent.
Both accounts are wrong - the statement was made by one of the first responding officers on the scene, off the record to a reporter. Uniforms were not allowed to comment and referred all questions to DCPI (Deputy Commissioner of Publc Information). As noted in the news conference following the shooting, the responding officers, who also identified the passenger in the car as Farace, were not even allowed in the conference.
Shooting the Police: Cops on Film (2006)
McNamara Needs To Learn More....
McNamara states that while making the movie "Copycat" he was convinced of Holly Hunters' portrayal as a police officer when she "Counter-Levered" her weapon (Shooting sideways) in his opinion was "Correct". Mr. McNamara needs to do his homework a little better - if Ms. Hunters character was a gang-member that would be correct - but those of us familiar with the use of firearms, and those of us who are actually police officers (Retired NYPD here) knows that "Counter-levering a weapon that has a slide will present more of a problem jamming the firearm. His comment was of an uninformed individual - he may want to change his technical background coach.
Outside of that ill-informed information by McNamara the show itself is interesting in the mindset of making police cinema. Due to the showing of McNamara's comment shows that the producer didn't do his homework either.
Capote (2005)
Boring
Though insightful - I will not be one on board simply to be on board - this movie bored the life out of me. Tracking the story of "In Cold Blood", which in itself is a great book and a wonderfully portrayed movie, this movie was bland, non-griping in any way whatsoever. Stick a fork in me, I'm done! Hoffman's portrayal of Capote was wonderful, his interpretation of Capote was equally wonderful, and understanding the type of movie that it was intended to be, and did become, in my opinion didn't make the grade. But when you make a movie about Hollywood, and then let Hollywood rate it is quite nepotistic, again, in my opinion! With that being said, waste of time!
Click (2006)
Actually pretty sad - in a GOOD way!
If you are an Adam Sandler fan as my family and I happen to be - you will thoroughly enjoy "Click". What seems to be a somewhat quick humored movie, and perhaps you think you may know how the movie is going to end in the first 20 minutes, and you would be wrong. For those of us enjoying our youth in the 80's and now find ourselves in middle-age in the first decade of the new century, Sandler doesn't deny us once again. Parts of this for those who can relate, can be tear-jerking (as in my case). Outside of the fact that Sandler demonize's the NY Mets in the brat next door, I can forgive him (a Yankee fan) this one time - outside of that - "It's a Wonderful Life" 2006 style, we enjoyed it!
