Interceptor (2022)
pure fun
Plot holes, clichés, stereotypes and some very dodgy acting...BUT...excellent CGI and sets in this non-stop unpretentious actioner make it a fun ride. It is well crafted in the Aussie way and doesn't rely on overpaid "stars" ....good value for a budget of about 15 million.
Halo (2022)
bit dull
Pretty good sets and costumes...sfx not bad.... BUT... it's supposed to be in the 26th century and the bikes and vehicles still have internal combustion engines....you'd think someone would have had a word with the foley guys about that.
The Gardener (2021)
minus zero stars
Most movies, however abysmal, have at least one redeeming feature...not this one...this is a masterclass in crap moviemaking from start to finish.
I can only assume it was made the day before the director arrived on set...they made a mistake and released the first rough rehearsal as the finished product.
The father looks and dresses like a crackhead...the mother a baglady...the gardener a monosyllabic moron....the bad guys pathetically stereotyped.
The set appears to be a derelict 'stately home' with matching garden.
The 'action' scenes choreographed by 5 year old kids.
The 'script'....lol....lol.
Jirga (2018)
Stunning in scope and emotion
This beautiful film captures elements of Islam, of ill conceived war, of humanity. Thank you brave filmakers and actors.
Cardinal (2017)
A genuine class act from Canada
It looks beautiful in its starkness...it sounds beautiful...it is not formulaic....good on you Canada
The Killing Field (2014)
lost for words.....almost
As another critic has mentioned, as a police procedural, bloody pathetic.I would have thought that the producers would have had real cops give instruction on how cops do stuff.
A cast of capable Aussie actors who seemed totally disinterested in their roles.
Worst of all......the soundtrack.....the constant repetitive looped sound of a 70's computer game....space invaders or something....unbelievably painful
Revolt (2017)
good South African indie flick
Shits all over the mega budget Independence Day drivel. It goes to show that big bucks and celebrity stars are less important than originality and the commitment of a cash strapped film making team to turn out a good looking atmospheric sci fi movie. Set action scenes and special effects as good as any.
