Alan Wake II (2023 Video Game)
10/10
Important. Unique. Outstanding.
24 November 2023
Remedy have long been a favourite studio of mine, always pushing the boat out in terms of creativity, story telling, and gameplay. Here, they shine with their best work yet, building on the universe they began to build with their last game, Control, delivering a story I couldn't stop thinking about and a world I couldn't stop exploring. The original Alan Wake was a game I would always defend, not limited by its sometimes repetitive gameplay and flaws, as it was unlike anything I had ever played before. With Alan Wake 2, Remedy delivers masterful survival horror, balanced with a gripping psychological thriller and truly groundbreaking storytelling. If that isn't enough, the gameplay and graphics are pushing the bounds of anything we have seen before on current gen. A must play.

Gone Girl (2014)
8/10
A shocking and clever ride.
13 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I can see how some may pick fault in the story, but the 1/10 star reviews are just ridiculous. Go and watch literally any film you've never seen before on Netflix or Prime Now and there you will find a true 1/10.

Anyway, Gone Girl provides for a suspenseful and clever (even if some don't appreciate it) twist on a classic tale, wife disappears and the husband looks to fit the bill, etc, etc.

Some describe Affleck as very wooden, but he is playing the actual character very well. The plot genuinely took turns I did not see coming, and though the ending may be decisive it is a very symbolic and smart ending based on the twists and turns that arise. Especially taking the opening line and the ending line and putting them together.

Gone Girl allows for the support roles to shine, a story to be told with genuine turns you will not be coming and it certainly delivers on the intrigue. Give it a watch, you'll enjoy the ride.

Sunderland 'Til I Die (2018–2024)
9/10
It doesn't matter who you support, watch it!
8 January 2019
A series that truly encapsulates how weird and wonderful being a football supporter is. The way the season unravels creates some of the most dramatic moments you will watch in a show, you'll scarcely believe what happens moment to moment. It doesn't matter what team you support, the show will have you cheering alongside the fans, the manager and even the chefs. The best part is how the fans and people of the club are presented, the human aspect to a season of football is something anyone can relate to. Do not miss this show!

Perfectly paced with suspenseful horror.
12 November 2018
This series sets itself apart from any other horror show I have seen to date. No episode seems to linger too long or take a misstep with the horror jumps and tension, everything seemed to flow really well and it kept you on the edge of your seat at all times.

The story is written so intelligently, with the individual story strands and threads literally crossing through time as they blend through the episodes before coming to their climax in a neat and satisfying conclusion. Tension is dished out in abundance but the show knows when to scare you and when too much is too much. It doubles down on the suspense and the inevitability of a scare, which makes it extra unnerving when one perhaps doesn't show up. This series will also leave your eyes pinned to the background of every beautifully shot scene, as your mind seemingly play tricks on you as you begin to notice figures and shadows in the background.

The actors give some phenomenal and truly believable performances, which is backed up by wonderous cinematography, a creepy score, and terrific writing.

There seems to be some discrepancy between how people receive the ending, but I can only say that I thought it was a beautiful way to end such a harrowing and intriguing tale. I have no hesitation in recommending the show and would even go as far to say that this may be the best horror series I have seen on television.

Oxenfree (2016 Video Game)
9/10
A phenomenal blend of horror, storytelling, and thrills.
11 August 2018
Oxenfree blends a mixture of suspense, horror and, on a few occasions, a good sprinkling of sheer terror. Set on a historical island, you and a couple of fellow teens begin to uncover a mind bending mystery.

In between dialogue choices, which do affect player relationships and the overall ending, the main mechanic of the game is the use of an old radio, allowing the player to tune in to random frequencies at any time. This can be used to uncover secrets, make contact through inter-dimensional time rifts, and listen to the radio, of course.

The art style of gorgeous, the soundtrack is one of a kind, and it was a joy from start to finish. I would recommend this game to everyone.
