This is the most underrated Pete Weller movie out there..
22 May 2024
This is about a transaction gone bad that this rich guys gets some of his ex-security guys to deal with, one he can deal (Robert Patrick) with the other he hates (Peter Weller).

This movie has a past with the three main characters. Yes, it's "B" quality but the characters have lots of great lines and are very well done by Weller and Patrick....the rest are a collection of cheese-ball actors i wouldn't look twice at.

To be honest, if this movie had been reshot it would have spent more time in theaters. Weller's "Baxter" is this ex-security now spiritualist and Patrick's character is no longer in the game but still is better at half speed than most vs most at full.

Part of the sory is straight on and the rest is convaluted.

Charlotte Lewis is this Lara Croft "tough" chick knock off that's the head of this rival security group working for the head of the opposition.

The less i say the better.

For Sale (2024)

A little typical at first but it gets interesting about halfway...
20 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It start off kinda boring. A typical huslter salesman that loses his job and ends up trying to sell houses and, you can tell, the guy who hires him knows what is going on.

Once the ghosts start showing up, it get unintentionally funny but still holds the "scary" movie vibe. Once the medium gets involved, it starts getting better.

It's a haunted house movie, with a definite twist. It took me a minute to figure out what was really going on but it started to make sense and then the movie was more enjoyable.

It's strange, it kinda reminds me of another horror movie plot twist i've seen before in another movie.

One of the ELITE "It's so bad, it's good" movies. Perfect 80s flick.
5 April 2024
I know a lot of people will give this movie a lot of different titles. And, yes, there's so much cheese in this movie you can make tacos with it.

But it's a perfect blend and it doesn't take it's self seriously.

From start to finish, this movie is making fun of it's self in a very creative and positive way and well as lovingly taking shots at the 80s culture.

It's the perfect transitional movie to keep the balance of old Bruce Lee movies to the 80s kung fu experience. It's got that 'mentor' vibe (like The Karate Kid), it's got all the lately pop culture influences. It's got the kid brother that takes himself WAY too seriously.

I love the "string bean. Rick James lookin fool" quote in there for Sho-Nuff. And Johnny, the "Bruce Lee" faker who is always playing up the fake martial artist role, PERFECT.

William H Macy shows up for a moment. Vanity, when she was "ti, is the leading female role. Jim Moody playing Daddy Green.

The only element i thought was too cheezey for words was Eddie Arcadians and his g/f. She was going for that Cyndi Lauper look but was too much out of shape and he was the 'worst' crime-boss type i've ever seen.

Of course, there's the epic show-down at the end and a few quote is just CAN'T repeat here that you just NEVER forget. It's in the top 30 'quotable movies' list for sure.

And you get that great vibe in the end of all movies you want when it starts playing "The Last Dragon" song.

The movie just leaves you satisfied and wanting more pop corn.

Resident Alien: I Believe in Aliens (2022)
Season 2, Episode 16
10/10
The UFO culture references are great
15 March 2024
This show is very quirky and the comedy takes some getting used to but you quickly wanna see more and more.

Harry is a quirky, funny, alien who's taken the place of what i am guessing was not a good person and he's made him good in a very strange way.

Now, this show definitely isn't for everyone. You have to have a certain type of sense of humor to like this show.

There is an element of "I've learned something today" in this series and an element that makes the heart feel good about being human.

They've got nice guest stars and that adds an element of spice to the show. Seeing Linda Hamilton was a nice addon.

This show, without a doubt, tends to evolve over time and it doesn't soley focus on the main character, it tends to move over to the female's relationships more than usual.

I dunno, there may be more to say.... I'm currently in season 3.

Dune (2021)

It's mediocre...lots of CG but i liked Dune 84 better...
10 March 2024
This Dune has lots of money put into it, and some of it is closer to the books. But, and i'm being honest as i can without being insulting, these actors (with the exception of Momoa) don't seem to have any spirit like 1984.

Patric Stewart, to me, will always be Gurney Halleck because of his EXCEPTIONAL performance in it. And remember, this guy had been in movies like "Excalibur", done TONS of Shakespearean work.

Stewart gave Gurney a memorable presence.

Jason Mamoa did the same thing to Duncan Ihado (who was completely forgettable in all the other movies).

The 84 version had a KILLER soundtrack and almost all of the characters were memorable "because" of the actors.

Paul comes off as whiny and always in a dark place. The other movie versions of Paul all had better personalities.

People, these days, all they seem to want is really good CG, borderline acting, and special effects. While the story is solid, these actors don't seem to bring it to life like they did in 84.

I'm sorry but this movie just, well....it BORED me to death after seeing all the other versions.

I just don't judge movies by the same standards as people these days do. And, sorry, but what 3rd time out it's pretty much burned out by this point.

Compared to the 80s version, this has no heart....
8 March 2024
I remember watching the 80s version of this series back in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s and it had a good story, decent action, and it seemed to keep you wondering and looking forward to the acting.

This new version....it's just so bland, so "default", doesn't seem to have actors with any heart or spirit. It's like they just got up there and read their parts, cashed their checks, and went home.

I mean Joh Rhys-Davies MADE the 1980 show as well as Richard Chamberlain. Together they were dynamic. And the asian actors seemed to have personalities you really wanted to follow.

This show, they justy don't have any really impressive spirit to their characters.

Others may not agree but i just don't see it in this version...

I was a little hesitant at first. However the movie is great...
4 March 2024
I was worried this movie was going to be (what i call) Forrest "Grump" because he's a terribly grumpy guy for the most part.

I've been watching him his whole career and Tom has gone through many phases in his career. He's been doing a lot of "serious" movies as of late and i wouldn't mind seeing him in a comedy but this turned into a very heart-warning movie.

If you need a movie to touch the ole heart, i recommend this one.

Okay, because i'm being "forced" to, i'm throwing in some extra information just to satiate IMDB. Tom, if you're reading out there, shoot for one more comedy just to say you can do it. :)

The Walking Dead (2010– )

It can be uplifting or depressing....mostly depressing....
7 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I gave this title and honest watch, i went 8 seasons pretty quick. If you are not into people losing...a LOT...this show is "not" for you. It has FAR more downs than ups and it can be highly depressing. The good moments are few and far inbetween. These people get beat-down so much you wonder why they even go on. I would like to say something positive like "This show is a dirext example of the human spirit" but it's not.

It's a TV version of a zombie survival game in the worse conditions and situations. Yes, there are entertaining parts and you do end up rooting for people but the problem is: As soon as you get really attached to a character other than the primary 5-6, they end up dead.

I know some people just love this show but it's only been a downer for me.

What this show has, BADLY, is "Yellow shirt" syndrome. In Star Trek, if you weren't one of the original 4 going on an 'away' mission, you were dead. And, on this show, if you're not one of the original 4-6 characters, they're gonna die just as you get used to them. The only issue is the "original" crew tends to shift back and forth.

Most "authentic" movie i've ever seen! Feels 100% true.
14 February 2023
No, seriously, we know it's a little altered but it's Al, folks. If you know anything about Al, you know it's his thing to over-do everything and i suggest seeing the "Behind the Music" on Al and don't forget to line up "UHF" the movie for a little instant "Al" gratification.

While the movie isn't 100% accurate, it's hilarious. Weird Al people don't touch on details, they like to laugh. Nothing beats a good giggle with Popcorn and soda. But, once you know Al's "real" story, it makes this movie even funnier and yes, it never hurts to be a dedicated 80's person.

I guearantee, if you have a warm sense of humor and love the goofy stuff, you will love this movie. I did love Jack Black's cameo in this movie.

UHF (1989)

The most UNDERRATED movie in Hollywood. Enhance your "Alness". A Love-letter to the 80s. The man who INVENTED over-acting and he can sing!
13 February 2023
This movie didn't really have a chance considering the titles it was up against in 1989. To know Al you have to watch "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" for a completely "%100 Accurate" depiction of his life. This movie is also something of a love-letter to the craziness of the 80s (if you include the video "UHF" from MTv when MTv 'was' MTv) before MTv was turned into this shameless, sellout channel that dweebs watch now. This movie introduces Michael Richards, yes that Michal Richards that destroyed his career during a stand-up while saying the one line that ended him in Hollywood. There's Victoria Jackson from SNL. And you can't forget Gedde Watanabe (from 16 Candles) who is just over the top and hilarious. Even Billy Barty, who had slipped into and out of movies during hte 80s.

Yes, yes, i admit it, you have to have a very tolerant sense of humor to love Al and all his work. Everything Al does is light-hearted and goofy and, god help me, i love him for it.

But UHF is just one of those movies you can sit down, with buttered pop-corn, and giggle at because it (literally) takes NOTHING seriously and the whole movie was probably and instruction guide for Jim Carey's career if you think about it.

Unfortunately, they didn't have this movie in 3D Surround because it would have been awesome for all Weird Al fans. No, this movie may not be for everyone but if it's for you, that's an indicator that you're special in the best possible way.

Why am i telling you virtually nothing about the movie? Because i want you to see it for yourself, of couse. If you can get just one smirk/giggle/busting belch of laughter then it would have been worth it. Al made fun of everything in this movie just before the 90s hit and the scourge of 'political correctness' was born into society and that gives it perfect timing.

Enjoy :)

When have i ever "overdid" it?
17 December 2022
Chevy Chase may be one of the kings of physical comedy of the 80s and Christmas Vaction adds to the list of the other Vacation movies.

The best movie, for us older guys/gals, is the "feel good" movie and Christmas Vacation is that in spades.

If you had watched the other Vacation movies you had a pretty good idea of "what" to expect in this movie and it had all the great elements of the tree, the lights, the decorations, the music, as well as the last of the "family" specials without seeming too ....well..."family".

If there's a perfect mixture, this is the movie for Christmas. Never would i have expected Julia Louise Dreyfus to be in a "Vacation" movie, but yes.

If i'm not mistaken, this is the 3rd "Rusty" as well.

Make it part of your Christmas Movies collection like i did. This, the original "Home Alone", and "A Christmas Story" are movies you should not miss.

Merry Christmas :)

Scrooged (1988)

A quintessential Christmas movie from the 80s to you.
16 December 2022
This story has been done to death but when you give "anything" the Big, Bad Billy Murry spin, it can make it great and they succeeded on this. The whole cast was memorable, some more than others.

The music (toward the end reall tied this movie together) and was the perfect cap on this movie.

I would recommend watching the original "Scrooge" before watching this to sorta get into the spirit of it before watching this. Heck, even watch "A Muppet Christmas Carol" while you're at it.

You have to remember, this movie was back when movie had "memorable" directors and Hollywood still has "some" heart and that's why it's so memorable.

Bill Murray was at the TOP of his power on this movie and you feel it from beginning to end. I mean, who else could get away with brining Lee Majors in for a quick cameo but Richard Donner?

I could list all the amazing actors but that's IMDB's job. Trust me, this is a feel good movie that almost can bring a tear to your eye at any moment and have you laughing the rest of the time.

"Feed me, Seymore. Feed me!"

This movie brought me out of a bad week of rain....
15 December 2022
I was having a bad week. My mother was in the hospital, it had been raining ALL week, and then i watched this movie. No lie, it brought me out of what was almost depression.

The 80s weren't perfect, far from it, but they were my "wonder" years. Everything was a wonder...and i wondered if i was gonna live through them (another story).

The point is, this is a movie that makes you feel good and, if you were an 80s kid/teen, it takes you back and let's you have that warm and fuzzy you need without using Delta 8 ;)

Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, GIANTS of the 80s. Even "Little Shop of Horrors" deserved SOME love and these two guys play off each other SO well.

No, this movie wasn't Star Wars or Indiana Jones but it "carries" you along, even if you use it as background noise, you get a snicker and chuckle here and there watching Steve Martin play Italin.

A wasted attempt at a Tarentino movie....
7 October 2022
This whole "girl-power" flick reeks of the same pointless story-lines i've seen in dozens of past movies (where it was done "better"). This has got to be one of Bruce Willis' crummiest roles. You can tell, in about 5 minutes, most everyone in the cafe (in some way) is part of what's gonig on.

A deal gone bad by a double-cross, it's one of the oldest stories out there and it's not that great. You add in an hour of pointless talk between girls and that makes it worse.

Forst Whittaker and his fake accent......horrible.

This is such a poor attempt at a Tarentino movie it just sucks.

When i think of all the money wasted, in these kinds of movies, that could have gone to a charity or research....it just makes me ill.

This is a movie that many movies were modeled off of and probably doesn't get it's due respect....
1 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What's great about this movie is that it's an 80's movie that wasn't "over 80ed". I'm guessing that geeks being in the rich/jock click was a big thing in the 80s. I was in high school then and saw the social divisioning but it was never like the movies. I mean, it depended on which school you went to and i swapped through a few of them because my family moved around a lot. But this guy talks the "hot" girl into guiding him into the "cool" zone and then loses his head and starts believing his own religion about it. They've made a Family Guy version of this and there have been movies somewhat modelled on it and i'm sure more than a few other cartoons have played the scenario.

It had some good music on it and it was a nice touch playing "Can't Buy Me Love" by the Beatles at the start of the end credits. But i have seen more than a few over-done 80s movies and this one wasn't like that and it's possible that's why it didn't have as much popularity. This was a movie for the sake of a good story and learning lessons on life somewhat. I didn't see a whole lot of Patrick Dempsey in movies and less of Amanda Peterson but i'm sure they were there and, because they didn't have lead roles, i didn't see them.

Yeah, this movie is worth watching and it will take some of us back.

A good movie and quite misunderstood....
25 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everybody i talk to hates Jessie Esienberg's character yet his was the most honest role. He was a @#$% and yeah, he "owned" that role.

Everyone else, except Justin Timberlake's character, was playing a fake "victim". And let's be real, they were there to get PAID and not because of hurt feeling's . And, in the end they settled and ANYONE who knows anything about settling knows it means they weren't being totally honest nor did they have the proof to win the case.

The dude might have been a @#$% but he was honest about it and that's respectable. Be true to who you are because "real" friends will stick around. I gotta say, Edwardo was there for two reasons, payback and revenge because he was too stupid to bring lawyer to signing what was a billion dollar contract. He DESERVED to get what he got even before suing dude. That's like blindly walking into traffic and then being mad because you get hit.

I say it was a good movie even if people claim it's not accurate. But that's the law of Hollywood, they're there to "entertain" not to educate. That's what the History/Biography channel are there for.

One of those "feel good", underdog movies with a great soundtrack
7 August 2022
Let's face it, the 2000s was the start of the decline of a lot of things. I mean this was the year of 9/11, schools weren't doing the pledge of allegiance, PCism was on the rise and music was slowly being flushed into the toilet.

Everybody (who's got some mileage under their belts and isn't a hater) loves an underdog movie and this was it.

Everyone in this movie had a memorable character, not just Heath Ledger. And the music just kept everyone floating from one moment until the next and "We Are the Champions" at the end.....pefection.

Movies like this are often under-rated and today's crowd is ruined by having so much easy access to streaming they forget the appreciation of a well-anticipated movie....and I waited on this one.

This is the kind of movie you need, every once and a while, to lift you up out of that slump we call "life".

......and believe me, in the Biden "regeim"...we need all the lift we can get.

It was great, except for the "wife" element.
8 July 2022
To be honest, i loved this movie until the wife went whiny @#$%^ and i was thinking "when is this chick gonna off herself and get back to the good movie". The mixture of actors were just perfect for this movie and the way it played out was great. The end, bam, "you never see it coming".

This is, without a doubt, an under-rated movie....
19 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Bradley Cooper, nararating this movie, really shines in the part. I loved some of the pop-culture in-direct references and how he just ended up 'shredding' Robert Deniro (anyone who slams Deniro is great in my book, i can't stand him). But there's never a dull or boring part in this movie, it's like a roller-coster with the up and down moment and, in the end, he figures everything out.

I watch this movie, at least, once a year.

It wasn't entertainment, it was political sniping "disguised" as entertainment
3 January 2022
After the first 5 minutes being dedicated to sniping the right i turned the damn thing off. While i'm for neither side, i don't like political sniping films and this more than qualifies. It's pathetic how far one side will go to attack the other and i've seen the left do it far more than the right ever will in a decade. It's another sub-genre of "Trump attack films". Andm, considering the clown we have as a president now, these morons didn't bother to look at the "entire" view of things.

It's funny, but not for true comedic reasons. It's funny because it's so blindly obvious these people spent the whole film attacking things/people they didn't like, not actual comedy.

This one was difficult to score....
19 December 2021
While i was enjoying the back and forth with Venom and his host i just found Cletus to be pathetic. And i'm a HUGE Woody Harrelson fan but i just didn't "feel" it this time. Cletus, in the end, came off like so many pathetic criminals do...blaming their faults/sins on someone else and "how" they were brought up and i feel like "if" this hadn't been part of the movie, i would have enjoyed it more. The whole twisted love thing between Cassidy and his g/f just seemed like a pointless element in the movie. And the very SECOND you found out what her powers were (if you know Venom) you knew EXACTLY what was going to end up happening.

I hope the next movie is better thought out.

I wasn't impressed and i'm really not a Trump follower...
18 December 2021
If you're looking for a movie where anti-Trump comedians and writers simply want to snipe a guy for being who he is, this is the movie for you. Honestly, i watched it and found it to be kinda tasteless. It wasn't that it didn't have funny moments, it's just that it was so obscenely OBVIOUS that it's a snipe movie that made it so bad. I would bet even money that someone from SNL was helping with the writing of this movie. Like i said, it's not that it didn't have funny parts but it's just too obvious why this movie was made and it wasn't for entertainment purposes.

One of the last "fun" movies i've seen in the 20teens
28 January 2021
This movie is great because it's "fun" in the sense of movies. Since the early 2000s, i've seen a decline in fun when it comes to movies. This movie has that comedy element and it's good because it draws from other movies.

When Sable pulled a Bill Duke by saying "I see you", it just sparked that little extra. If you don't know what a Bill Duke is, go to Google and reference the saying and the name.

Any movie that takes you back to the 80s, i love it. And, in a way, this movie does that by mentioning how long it's been going on. The "basement" scene just took you there and got you in the mood.

The comedy is point on, the action is good, and the story line is brilliant.

A feel-good movie that takes you back to the ring.
24 December 2020
Honestly, i believe the reason this movie didn't get the ratings it deserved is simple: If you were never a real fan, you wouldn't understand. WAY back in the day (and that's the 80s to me, when wrestling was in it's diamond era) i was one of those fans and, after a time, i did move on.

But this movie is steeped in comedy, of dreamers overcoming adversity, a more innocent "good vs evil" and i have to admit...the trash talk is on a level that just made me feel like a teenager again, getting all wound up and into it.

Having the Macho-Man Randy Savage coming in, in the first 5 minutes, was the perfect launch to get you into the mood for this movie. The dream-sequence was just perfectly balanced to get you into the spirit of things.

Then, i just laughed my a$$ off as all the cheezy comedy. I wasn't expecting more, at first, but the story built and the BS was just so...well..."wrestling" and i had to appreciate the commitment to making this movie as funny and feel-good as it did.

I didn't see it in theaters but at the end, i was rooting for the two kids and Oliver Plat just like i rooted for the wrestlers in the old day....just not as loudly :)

This is, without a doubt, an 80s guilty pleasure...
23 November 2020
The great thing about this movie is that it has no really big star names attached to it but it's still fun to watch. Years later, I tried to find a "ski" movie that was on the same enjoyment level but all the rest seemed to have fallen victim to copying this one but badly. Good soundtrack including "When You Were Mine" by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels and "Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran. This movie wasn't a complicated story, it's skiing and an underdog against the big, not evil but an a-hole world champion that thinks himself to be untouchable. It was hilarious to hear the Japanese guy, who had not spoken a word of English all movie ask, "What the @#$% is Chinese Downhill?"

It's a feel-good movie that takes you back, even for just a moment, to the 80s and that's good enough for me.
