Deadlock (2021)
No Bruce, NO!!
I have been a BW fan for years, however the last few years have not been good for Bruce and he seems to be churning out B/C movies by the dozen. This is another done to a well known formula, that unfortunately lacks any redeeming factors, Bruce spends most of the
Movie in a seated position and acting like he doesn't want to be there, he has made some good movies in the past but it seems he
Does care anymore , which is a real shame for someone that was so engaging in the past.
Trust me missing this movie misses nothing.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Definitely worth a watch
Was not expecting too much from this film, just easy afternoon viewing but you know I owe the cast and director an apology, I really enjoyed it A school shooting may not be your idea of entertainment but this film does actually have an intelligent story, the characters are believable and important to the story and not just there for a body count.
Leading actress Isabel May is excellent as the heroine although she is not set up as that immediately in the film and the clever storyline builds up to that point but it allows you to get to know her as a character flaws and all at first, Oli Sholaton is great as her counterpoint wannabe boyfriend, they spark of each other well. Eli Brown as the villain is also excellent and believable, there are moments of murder, death, kill but also periods of dark humour which balance the subject matter well.
All in all it's a; intelligent film of a contemporary subject that doesn't romanticise or avoid the dark subject of school shootings in America, but does perhaps give you a glimpse of why some of these tragedies can happen without glamorising or trivialising the subject
I enjoyed it so much I watched it twice.
Eye for an Eye (2019)
Cringeworthy awful!
Well where do you start? Well let's start with the terrible acting which was way beyond wooden, in fact quite unforgiving really! Dialog, must have been written by the directors 5 year old. Special effects, not so special really! Sound, some of the worst sound production quality I have ever heard, ever .... no seriously I mean EVER! It needs a review all to itself, sound levels up and down from minute to minute, times where the dialog has clearly been recorded in a toilet cubicle! The sound engineer should seriously hang their heads in shame. Storyline, well there was some semblance of one which in more competent hands might have been half decent, unfortunately for this movie and the viewer these certainly weren't competent ones. Action scenes, good lord help us: no amount of good acting were that possible in this movie could have prepared me for how bad the fight scenes were going to be, I am still trying to get over it to be honest. In short, do yourself a favour and gives this a pass, unless of course you are one of those folks who go into a movie thinking it can't be that bad, OK but I did warn you ...
Out of Blue (2018)
Don't bother, no really don't!
I have said it all above.
But if you do decide to endure this then at least have a glass of something to hand to keep you amused, because I can assure you the film won't!
Once past the first 15 min of the film you enter some sort of parallel universe where a script and storyline that makes a modicum of sense is apparently optional, believe me I am not kidding, I stuck it out to the end hoping for some sort of coming together of events and yes even a kind of resolution.
Silly me, this film just ends leaving you in a kind off WTF moment swiftly followed by a YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME one.
Don't say you haven't been warned.
Darkweb (2016)
Step away from the play button ..... no really do!!
Well I have watched a few terrible movies in my life but this truly is up there with the worst of them, you have it all:
Poor or next to no real script, actors who seem unsure who's line it is next so just look menacing at each other, very poorly lip synced dialogue, at least I hope it was lip syncing otherwise get these guys to a speech therapist!
The films premise while not original (bad rich men hunt poor farmer girl for sport and money) could have worked much better than it did, script writers day off I guess; fight scenes that were very poorly choreographed and seem to be cut and sliced by the director in quite a random fashion.
There is a lot of running about in the forest, baddies turning on each other, main character whilst very pleasing to the eye seemed to have no other purpose than run, fall down, run again, hide fall down etc etc.
The Dark Web part is misleading as there really is no internet thread through the film really, other than they recruit the baddies from the dark web, and it's splashed all over the to monitors as a screen saver in the control room.
And then we come to Danny Glover, some like me might expect any film he is in to be at least half decent, think again, even he couldn't do anything with this script, not that you saw much of him anyway, he made occasional appearances via TV link and generally made it clear how unhappy he was at the lack of innocents being slain. The ending of the film, or almost end, sees him on the TV screen having some sort of fit, presumably having just received a copy of the script and realising what a total pile of @*%! This film was.
Spoiler alert!!!
The ending truly sucks, lead character having escaped all that had gone on gets run over by a car and then bundled in the boot, car drives of and role credits!
Is she dead, who are these guys in the car, they were shooting at thegirl, hunters and anyone else earlier on the film, but their purpose never truly explained?
So in summary, if it was so bad why did I watch it to the end?
Honestly, I don't know, perhaps I thought at some point it would all make sense, or just improve a little maybe, in any case it was none of the above and frankly 1 star is too generous but they don't provide negative points.
Well I have done my good deed for the day, you have been warned, I watched this film so you wouldn't have to.
