The Jupiter Enigma (2018)
Music is the spoiler for me.
Fascinating information ruined by a musical score that dominated and overpowered the narration. Too loud, too strident, too redundant and far too distracting. Why is it necessary to add any backdrop to the narration at all?!
If I were a filmmaker I would make it a law that any musical background be unobtrusive and secondary so as to be unable to overshadow and drown out the narration.
Apparently I can't say enough about this attribute since I'm required to add more unnecessary verbiage to make my point. Why??
Alright, 84 more characters are required. Was this rule written by the composer too?!
Shockwave: Surviving North America's Biggest Disaster (2009)
WHAT WASN'T MENTIONED
Overall a decent summary of the problem which West coasters need to be highly aware of. However I was surprised by the lack of a reference to the highly destructive Fukushima tsunami. Videos of that disaster would have brought the message home very forcefully. Also not mentioned in this movie is that if you're on a coast across the ocean far from where an earthquake has occurred, you will not necessarily feel the shocks of that earthquake and therefore have little or no warning of an approaching tsunami. The documentary also failed to mention that before a tsunami arrives, the ocean appears to pull away from the shore. In their curiosity people will want to explore the exposed beach, making themselves extremely vulnerable to the tsunami when it ultimately arrives in full force. It's vital that information about this phenomenon be included in public education programs.
Apocalypse of Ice (2020)
Lame and lamer
I rate this the worst apocalyptic movie ever, ... no, wait, the worst movie ever. It's beyond lame and it would take me longer to say why than watch it again. It's so bad on so many levels only watch this if you're high and desperate for a laugh.
Red Notice (2021)
WHAT A BLAST!
It's got everything: a great heist, plot twists and turns, double crosses, witty dialogue, sympatico if oddly matched protagonists, laugh-out-loud humour, fast-paced action, extraordinary sets and stunts - what's not to love. Did I mention Ryan Reynolds?!
