Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Execeptional
Kingdom of the Planet of Apes is an exceptional movie with the perfect script that pays homage to the original 1968 classic. We follow the journey of Noa, a young ape who lives with his clan in their peaceful village, where they raise eagles and hunt for fish. An unfortunate incident forces Noa to search for his clan as he learns the truth about the apes' existence and how Caeser's words have been distorted after his demise in the following centuries by the Elders. The visual effects are impressive along with the breathtaking landscapes filmed in IMAX, and mesmerizing soundtrack. I look forward to watching another sequel and I'll be rooting for the apes because I like them.
The Reckoning (2023)
The Real Jimmy Savile
Jimmy Savile was the most popular television star in the United Kingdom for over 50 years, but very few people knew about his sinister side when the cameras were turned off. Steve Coogan is brilliant as Savile from speaking in a Yorkshire accent to capturing his mannerisms and strange sense of humor. Even though Coogan was criticized over his portrayal of the infamous sexual predator after what he did to his victims, he nailed that character in the most convincing way, and he should be commended for taking up the challenge of playing a controversial figure like Savile. The Reckoning reveals the real Jimmy Savile based on true accounts from the people who knew him personally at the height of his fame.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
The Best Mission Yet
With a score of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is the most exciting movie of the year and it's mind-blowing in every way for fans of this incredible franchise. Tom Cruise, the last movie star returns as Agent Ethan Hunt along with his IMF team in a new mission to stop a lethal weapon that could destroy humanity. As usual, Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie hit it out of the park with original and breathtaking stunts that have been executed perfectly with minimum CGI, and the cinematography captures the sublime locations filmed in Venice, Rome, Abu Dhabi and Norway. This is the best mission yet and I highly recommend it while looking forward to Part 2.
One Ranger (2023)
We Need Old-School Movies Like This
One Ranger is an exciting action movie starring Thomas Jane as a professional Texas Ranger, who joins forces with an agent from British Intelligence to prevent a dangerous IRA terrorist from carrying out a deadly attack in London. I think we can agree that there is still a need for old-school movies that are not saturated with CGI and revolve around superheroes similar to the ones we see these days in theaters. If the studio is planning to produce an upcoming film with Ranger Alex Tyree in a new adventure, I'll be glad to watch it because it's better than wasting my time and money on any Disney movie.
Devotion (2022)
Based on a True Story
Devotion is an incredible film about the first black naval aviator Jesse Brown and his wingman Tom Hudner, who formed a unique friendship based on trust and respect during the Korean War. Glen Powell did an amazing job as Tom Hudner after his exceptional performance in Top Gun: Maverick, another brilliant movie about naval aviation and he's proving that he's a very talented actor. I personally enjoyed the plot and the aerial sequences, and we all need movies like this instead of the superhero ones that have become predictable and unnecessary. If you're interested in history and aviation, you'll love this movie.
Smile (2022)
Very Terrifying
Smile is probably the most terrifying horror movie I've ever seen in my whole adult life. Slasher movies are not my cup of tea, but I decided to see it to get into the spirit of Halloween and anything associated with horror and supernatural elements, and this movie may be suitable for those who enjoy horror films.
I did feel sorry for the poor cat after his owner found him in a cardboard box and those smiles on those victims look very eerie and disturbing.
As for the actors, I'm not familiar with all of them, with the exception of Kal Penn but they are very convincing in their roles, including the daughter of veteran actor Kevin Bacon.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Worth the Wait
After 36 years, Tom Cruise reprises his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell where his iconic character continues to push the envelope as a test pilot and then becomes an instructor to a new generation of fighter pilots. Everything about Top Gun: Maverick is sublime from the script to the breathtaking cinematography and aerial sequences with no CGI or Green Screen that would keep fans on the edge of their seats. I believe Tom Cruise, Joseph Kosinski, Christopher McQuarrie, Jennifer Connelly and the entire cast have done a brilliant job and it is worth the wait. Top Gun: Maverick belongs on the big screen and it'll take your breath away.
The Batman (2022)
The Darkest Batman Movie
The Batman is by far the best and darkest movie I've ever seen because DC's iconic hero is depicted as a detective, whose mission is to solve gruesome murders committed by a madman known as the Riddler. Set in a noirish Gotham city, it's Batman's second year of fighting crimes where he encounters new foes and allies like Penguin and Catwoman. Robert Pattinson is brilliant as the brooding and reclusive Bruce Wayne, and he nailed the role of Batman perfectly, he also proved to be better than the likes of Christian Bale and George Clooney. I look forward to another sequel with Matt Reeves directing and let's not forget the epic Batmobile that adds icing to the cake.
Live PD: Police Patrol (2017)
Great Show
The network must bring Live PD: Police Patrol back for new seasons. All those hard-working and courageous law enforcement officers deserve credit for doing their jobs to protect citizens and communities across the U. S. despite the left wing radicals who disrespect law and order.
Star Trek: Catspaw (1967)
My Favorite Star Trek Episode
Catspaw is my favorite Star Trek episode as I'm a fan of Halloween, witches and black cats. Guest stars Antoinette Bower and Theodore Marcuse were perfect as Sylvia the witch and Korob the wizard who torment Kirk and his crew by instilling fear into them in a game of cat and mouse. It's an underrated episode thanks to writers D. C. Fontana and Robert Bloch.
Star Trek (1966)
Trekkies
Star Trek has always been an amazing show since its debut in the late 60's. With an incredible cast including William Shatner (Kirk), Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and DeForest Kelley (McCoy), the show became an instant hit and generated devoted fans known as "Trekkies" or "Trekkers" even after three seasons. It became a revolutionary sci-fi show in terms of its diverse cast, creative plots and special effects which took place at the height of space exploration and prior to the moon landing. My personal favorite episodes are The Man Trap, Shore Leave, Arena, The Devil in the Dark, Catspaw and Assignment: Earth. Star Trek TOS is a priceless gem.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Ignore the Haters
I personally enjoyed Wonder Woman 1984 thanks to Gal Gadot's incredible portrayal of one DC's iconic characters. Ignore the haters who are mostly Marvel fans because the DC movies are more entertaining.
Valkyrie (2008)
An Underrated WWII Movie
Valkyrie is my favorite WWII movie about the plot to assassinate Hitler by a group of German officers. Based on a true story, this historical film gives a glimpse of life in Germany in the 1940's and the military's dissatisfaction with Hitler's regime. The somber soundtrack blends perfectly with every scene. Most importantly, Tom Cruise's performance as Claus von Stauffenberg is excellent as he's a versatile actor when it comes to acting in drama films, it's also his first collaboration with screenwriter/director Christopher McQuarrie who later became his creative partner in his movies such as the Mission: Impossible franchise, Jack Reacher and much more. Valkyrie is a sublime movie and I love watching it.
Mission: Impossible (1996)
Underrated Spy Movie
Mission: Impossible, the classic television show with its unique music theme has been rebooted into a successful spy movie franchise with Ethan Hunt and his team of IMF agents. Ethan Hunt is framed for killing his fellow agents and he goes to clear his name with the help of disavowed agents and his mentor's wife Claire. The post-Cold War setting in Prague is perfect, along with the incredible stunts that were performed by Tom Cruise. It's no wonder why the Mission: Impossible movies are incredible to this day.
New Tricks: Blue Flower (2012)
Great Episode
This episode is well written and has twists that make you want to know how is the murderer. Steve McAndrew is an excellent addition to the UCOS team and Gerry Standing is amusing as usual. New Tricks is by far the best police drama.
New Tricks: Nine Lives (2007)
Nice Episode
I like this episode because I'm a cat lover myself and I resent people who dislike them or animals in general.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Long Live the King
Monster movies are very underrated and they're much better than superhero flicks. Godzilla King of the Monsters is an enjoyable popcorn movie with incredible monsters, a good story and an amazing soundtrack. Godzilla has always been the king since 1954.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It
Is to go watch Mission:Impossible Fallout because it's a fantastic movie and the franchise is solid after 22 years. Tom Cruise and McQ are brilliant!
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Best Sci-Fi Movie in this Decade
I enjoyed every second of Edge of Tomorrow. It's really funny, breathtaking and worth the money. Tom Cruise by far is the most underrated actor and he's the reason why I wanted to see this fantastic movie, along with Emily Blunt who did a great job in her first action role and let's not forget the late Bill Paxton as Master Sergeant Farrell. Edge of Tomorrow is a great sci-fi movie with unforgettable moments that'll make you want to see it over and over.
