A Walk in the Clouds (1995)
The Best Of Romance And Family
Keanu Reeves, one of the most underrated actors in movies, proves himself worthy of this role along side cinema titans like Anthony Quinn and Giancarlo Giannini. Certainly not the mediocrity some think him to be. Reeves playing Reeves? Ok. I'd like to see a smug Johnny Depp or a pretty Leonardo DiCaprio pull off this part with the same humility.
The cinematography, the wardrobe, the cast and the story come together to make this a truly beautiful thing to watch. It's an uplifting movie overall. One of those you find yourself wanting more of when it finally ends.
Just a side note. I can't help but see the similarity between, Paul Sutton, Keanu Reeves' character, and that of Fred Derry, played by Dana Andrews in 'The Best Days Of Our Lives'. Their "met her on Friday, got married on Sunday shipped out on Monday" relationships are nearly identical in presentation and outcome.
Don't underestimate this movie. It's worth your time.
Shotgun Wedding (2022)
"Garbage" Is More Credit Than It Deserves.
This is STUPID! This is insulting. This IS NOT funny, entertaining or watchable. Do you have 5 minutes of your life to waste? Ok. Stream it. Download it. Steal it. Borrow it. I guaranty you at about the five minute mark you'll be saying, as I did, WTF!!! Slow? Nah, stagnant. I was gritting my teeth with embarrassment rolling my eyes in disgust and clutching at my chair with anger. I couldn't believe that this had been released for public consumption. It's like watching a 7 year old at a class presentation singing every line of a song in 3 or 4 different keys. Well, at least the second grader is cute and understandably untalented. The persons in this movie are all...ADULTS!!! Please. I'm begging you do not spend money on this thing. Even my wife, who is much more lenient and forgiving than I am, was pleading with me to watch something else. We did. I tuned into Captain Kangaroo reruns. He made more sense than the dialogue in...what's it called? Oh yeah, 'Shotgun Wedding'.
SAS Rogue Heroes (2022)
Music. Music. Music. Ruined. Ruined. Ruined. AC/DC absolutely nuked this series (in a bad way)!
I will never be able to understand why producers/directors insist on using contemporary music in period movies. It is absolutely ridiculous. Do they not realize cranking heavy metal while watching a scene taking place in 1941 removes the viewer from the visual atmosphere that is being created. Skillfully created I might add. Four stars. There is a plethora of Big Band tunes that would have done much better during the action scenes. They used 'Sing Sing Sing' in the nightclub scene. So, they obviously know who Gene Krupa is. AC/DC does not belong in this show. Just to reiterate...Poor choice in music. I'm a rock and roll guitar player. This is not about being old and out of touch. They should have picked a better music producer.
Summit Fever (2022)
Another Killer Eiger!
Great movie. Cringed alot. Squinted alot. Looked at my phone alot. Watched my wife cringing and squinting. In other words the action is realistic and the photography puts you on those cliffs. I suggest you have a blanket on hand. Wind. Wind. Wind. Snow. Snow. Snow. Then... Thunder and lightning! If you liked the Eiger Sanction-1975. If you liked "North Face-2008". If you liked Everest, Touching The Void and Beyond The Edge. You'll like this movie. If, like me, you're a child of the 1970s and popular folk music you'll get the irony of the closing credits song by Loudon Wainwright III-The Swiming Song 1973. I got it. Sang along. Perfect choice for a mountain climbing flick. Kudos to the clever producers.
Elizabeth: A Portrait in Part(s) (2022)
Thoroughly Enjoyable. An Education.
First, any moron who thinks this is a publicity movie for the purposes of propaganda is exactly that...a moron. I'm an American. For all intent and purposes I am clueless in matters regarding the British monarchy. This film is a cleverly produced education. An insightful look at the life Queen Elizabeth II. If you're a fanatic for historical documentaries, as I am, you will absolutely enjoy Elizabeth: A Portrait in Part(s). Of course, if you're a member of the moronic ilk who believe that the hypocrites Harry and Meghan are heroic figures then you'll probably not appreciate this movie. No worries maybe someone will someday determine to waste time, energy and money producing a tribute to those halfwits. Long live the Queen.
The Batman (2022)
Holy Piece of Garbage Batman!!
So, the philanthropic Waynes are suddenly lowlifes with secrets to keep. Of, course. They are white and privileged. Batman is suddenly despised by the police. Of, course, he's a white male. Strictly white males in charge of Gotham City politics. Ok, I can believe that. Gotham is in the toilet. High crime rate. High poverty level. Filth everywhere. Just like, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Detroit, Chicago on and on. So, the democrats stole another election and got control of Gotham too. And to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt what a bunch of morons Reeves, Craig and Finger are the villiains are white Mafia guys !!!!???? Your asses. Big city crime is ruled by violent street gangs made up mostly of black thugs who enjoy terrorizing people on the street. The 80s called...they want their plot back. Follywood wokeism on display in full view. Oh let's not forget the gratuitous lesbian relationship. GFTFOOH! Idiots.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Ruined
Unintentionally unfortunate I'm sure. Russell Brand is a moron. The choice to use him in this movie was a bad one. Seeing him try to act RUINED what may have been a good movie experience. In words Hercule Poirot may have used "C'est dommage". If an imbecilic cartoon character is what you're looking for to fill this part next time try Wile E. Coyote or Puma Pete. They're both better actors than Russell Brand albeit less moronic than him.
The King's Man (2021)
Thoroughly entertaining. Thoroughly surprised.
After watching his movie twice I still can not believe how much I like it. Not a smidgen of the usual Follywood woke asinine nonsense! Historically acurate for the most part. Great special effects albeit CGI. I was taken aback by the lack of dark humor found in the other Kingsmen films. The use of actual historical characters in fictional yet totally believable roles is clever without overreaching. Good old fashioned period action thriller. And get this. A white guy is the hero!!
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
It should have stayed buried.
Yet ANOTHER piece of Follywood woke crap. Making conservative views and opinions seem outdated and hack by comparing established norms to a Matrix of horrors. Yeah, we get it jerks. You want to destroy everything and raise it up in your image. Nah, ain't happenin'. You liberal, leftist imbeciles are already in the process of eating your own. That's a good thing. Keep pointing fingers, creating fake bad guys and telling us what to think. In the meantime we'll steal your "intellectual" property. Watch your movies for free. And reveal your so-called hidden agendas. Idiots. (Oh yeah, almost forgot, we'll take back both Houses in Novemeber and really do some damage!)
Eternals (2021)
Folllywood! Follywood! Follywood!
I've learned to be prepared. Everything coming out of Follywood is a joke. Disney, Sony, Warner, Universal etal. These are major entities being controlled by a foreign, hostile government. Is it any wonder the messaging would be corrupt, disruptive and hypocritical? I'll watched it holding my nose and sitting far from anything I may have been tempted to throw at the screen. Hey, at least I didn't pay to watch it!!!
Finch (2021)
Almost Speechless
The challenges presented by the apocalypse that has befallen earth in this film may be a cornerstone of the plot but not the central theme. The brief and almost flippant hint that humans have killed the planet will be quite disappointing to the Al Gore Cult. The director cleverly presents seemingly dangerous encounters. Just when you're ready to say "I knew that was coming". It doesn't.
Despite the absence of mass killing, automatic weapons, exploding vehicles, a T-1000 nemesis developed by Cyberdyne or a scary Nexus-6 created by the Tyrell Corporation you are entertained and captivated. Watching this movie you laugh out loud, you cry, you aww and you smile. You run the gamut of human emotion. With the exception of horror.
This will be listed among the best of Tom Hanks. Yes, absolutely. Saving Private Ryan, Sully, Captain Phillips and Finch.
Expedition Unknown (2015)
A Show About Nothing
Doesn't Seinfeld own the rights to this idea for a show?
For all you young folk who are unfamiliar with the Jerry Seinfeld show. It was a sitcom with a pretense in reality. The show is pitched to the producers of NBC as "a show about nothing" Season 4 Episode 3. Just to clarify my rating.
Black Widow (2021)
Originally a 1 Star Review
I admit when I am wrong. I watched this movie twice. In a word, "hysterical". I don't mean that sarcastically. The main characters played by Johansson, Pugh, Harbour and Weisz poke fun at themselves throughout. It made me laugh despite the Marvel franchises woke BS lately. Watch it. Then watch it again.
La morte viene dal pianeta Aytin (1967)
Furio Meniconi: Rod Steiger Doppelganger!
More than a little coincidental and ironic! Rod Steiger's double stars in a film called Snow Devils released in 1967. Rod Steiger stars in a film called In The Heat Of The Night released in 1967. The lead character in Snow Devils is named Rod. I. can hear the Twilight Zone theme in my head now...Rod Serling, right?. Somebody stop me!
Without Remorse (2021)
OK Hollywood we get it...
...only black heroes and heroines. Only white female super-heroes. Strictly white male villains. You know what you can do with the virtue signaling, 'let's teach everyone a lesson', garbage you attempt to shove down our throats! It's obvious you morons on the left coast have decided to put out propaganda and not entertainment. Here's a fair warning: The worm will turn. You elitist movie producers will be scratching both your heads wondering what went wrong and, where all your money went. Idiots.
The Marksman (2021)
Great Attestation For A CLOSED Southern Border
Perfect illustration of why lowlife drug dealers, cartel members and general ne'er-do-wells need to be stopped from entering the United States. By any means necessary!
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Billy Dee Williams
8 stars for Billy Dee Williams. The rest is yet another piece of Left coast woke 'female only' heroism tripe. And, did we really need to see two females kissing during the end celebrations? No we did not. Why don't you save your virtue signaling for your home movies to share with your intolerant, liberal hollywood friends.
Forever (2014)
Figures ABC Network morons would cancel a really good program.
History buff? Crime scene drama appreciator? Dark comedy lover? NYC location seeker? Judd Hirsch fan? Science Fiction aficionado? NYPD supporter? Well, if you're like me and have checked any or all the boxes 'Forever' is not to be missed. I was able to save the only season produced and just finished bingeing it. They need to bring this show back. It's addictive like few series manage to be. And the bozos stopped it after one run. Did I say they're morons? More like crimimals guilty of viewer abuse.
The Avengers (2012)
Marvel Comics At Their Best (And No Pepper Potts)
The Avengers gets the full 10 stars from me for primarily one reason. There is no discernable hollywood wokism injected into the plot. If you read these comic books when back in the day as I did it's a fantasy fulfilled to see them off the page and on the screen. I do find this irony hysterical however: I reviewed Ironman 2. I mentioned that the halfwitted Pepper Potts bossed the NYPD around like she was a dictator in some banana republic. Of course ms. paltrow just needed to be herself to be the part. In this movie Captain America tells the bewildered NYPD officers what to do. In the midst of the chaos the police sergeant questions why he should listen to them orders. Amazing huh? A white male figure (who is a super hero by the way) is subjected to scrutiny. Whereas a dopey, inept female ordering policemen gets a pass. And she does it more than once! Well, thankfully there's none of that and very little of her. Makes it a 10 for me.
Iron Man Three (2013)
I can sum up what's wrong with this movie in two words...
...Gwyneth Paltrow. As I've mentioned in my review of Iron Man 2. .... Pepper Potts (a perfect role for this actress by the way) IS NOT A SUPER HERO!!!. She does not get to be Iron Man kill the villain and save the day. Woke nonsense served up by idiot producers who don't have the courage to simply make a male the hero. Period!
Let alone using a mediocre actor like ms. Paltrow in the role. Which is why this movie gets 2 stars and not 8. Maybe she should just stick to reading liberal ads on the Net.
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Pepper Potts CEO!!??? You're kidding. Right?
I find it hard to believe that a man can fly at Mach 5 in an iron suit. However, it's impossible for me to believe that a half-witted, moron like Potts would find herself in charge of a multi-billion dollar company. Let alone that she could boss around the NYPD as if they would click their heels, salute and obey without question. Besides the obvious hollywood woke nonsense it's a movie about a comic book hero after all. Let's get this straight. The plot is about villains Hammer and Vanko aka 'Whiplash' versus heros Iron Man and Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes. Period. It's not about feminism. It's not about a globalist new world order. Or the rest of the obvious messaging 'hidden' in the dialogue by the not-so-clever producers. That was 2010. Now it's 2020. It's only gotten worse. I offer that piece of sexist political propaganda from last year Captain Marvel as proof. Give it a rest hollywood. Left coast views won't ever become part of America's main stream political or cultural views. Sorry to disappoint. Apologies to miss Potts for being portrayed by an actor with only mediocre talent and less than mediocre I.Q.
Kings Row (1942)
Regan At His Best
I dont have much to say about the technical virtues of this film. The outstanding quality of the cast, the photography, the storyline are intrinsically discernible to anyone watching it. Watching? No. You are drawn into King's Row as if you are reminiscing about the life you yourself lived there. I saw King's Row for the first time over 40 years ago. Coincidentally just about the time Ronald Reagan became our 40th president. Before that time I could not watch any of his movies. I actually believed Bedtime For Bonzo was the full extent of his range. This movie changed that opinion. It gave me an entirely new perspective into the abilities of Ronald Reagan. I believe Drake McHugh is Reagan. I am living in King's Row observing first hand the people, flawed and flawless, who live there and Ronald Reagan is one of them. For the first time I am witness to the honesty, strength and morality of the actor who became president. If you think you hate Ronald Reagan visit King's Row. Drake McHugh will change your mind.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Another Hollywood virtue signaling piece of crap!
Do not waste your time. Beside the obvious political BS messaging. You know they're not illegals they're people blah blah. No they are NOT prisoners they ARE detainees. Moronic producer sir, madam or whatever you identify as.The acting is absolutely horrid. If it moved any slower you'd need to be a cyborg to stay awake. Arnold is the one and the only reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1. My advice to the rest of you Hollywood halfwits; Next time you want to entertain people with a sci-fi thriller try not being soooooo, what's the word, oh yeah; ASININE!
The Great Gatsby (2013)
More Like Minus 10 Stars
Like many reviewers here I too was agasp at the absolutely absurd music in this movie. It's a shame really. Obviously the story is gripping and the characters keep you interested; thank you Mr. Fitzgerald. If the producers were intentionally trying to ruin a classic piece of American literature they succeeded marvelously. I'm a musician. Maybe music means more to me than to others. Or, maybe the songs are just so out of place it should be obvious to anyone. Or, perhaps it's that the songs themselves are pure garbage in any setting, in any decade. I got my hands on the 1974 Robert Redford version. I can't bear watching Mia Farrow. But, that offering is a solid 10 star movie anyway. The producers of this trash should have their heads examined!
Fred Claus (2007)
Really sinead?
Ok 'Christ'mas movie overall. Somebody should have mentioned to poor, ms. Ignoramus o'connor that the correct words to Silent Night are "Christ the Savior is born". "Sleep in heavenly peace" is not the point of the lyric. So, there's no reason to use the phrase in place of what is actually written by the author Josef Mohr. If their purpose was to take Christ's name out of the hymn and thereby out of Christmas the producers should have simply chosen some other music to accompany the closing Christmas morning montage. Unfortunate. It is, afterall, Jesus Christ's presence soley that makes the night holy, calm, bright and peaceful.
