Last Man Standing (2011)
About time!
It's so refreshing and atypical to have a conservative-leaning sit com on television in the liberal-dominated entertainment and media industries! When I first started watching it, I couldn't believe it....."WHAT, WHAT, WHAT WAS THAT?" I've always liked Tim Allen, I enjoy this show and its humor, and it's good to have conservatism featured in the main character of a popular, main stream program. Bravo all around!
My Mother and Other Strangers (2016)
Story & character development fell off abruptly....but still hoping for more
Another show I happened upon by accident when channel surfing and was, rather inexplicably, immediately drawn into. While I looked forward to each episode and am hoping for more, the show is rather shallow in ways that make is also somewhat unbelievable. The show does a good job at first with introducing and developing the characters, then suddenly takes a gigantic leap, into the abyss, leaving its viewers wondering, "Huh??? How'd we get from there to here?" A woman, introduced as conservative, level-headed, intelligent, responsible, solid, in a long-term marriage, with 3 children, goes from mildly attracted to another man, from growing interest to innocent flirtation to outwardly proclaiming her love for what amounts to a stranger, a member of the military from another country, ready to throw her family and life aside for a man she's basically spent zero time with and had only casual conversations. Still, even with its head-scratching gaps in story development, I keep searching for information on whether or not the show will be back, very much hoping there's more to come, knowing I'll be sorely disappointed if there isn't.
Detectorists (2014)
Amusing, entertaining, charming and addictive
I have loved this show from the very first episode, which I happened upon quite by accident. I'm currently watching reruns of the first season, anxiously waiting for the next series to hit American television. The characters reel you in, the actors portrayal so perfectly on target. The scenery is breathtaking, and the theme song is beautiful. I cannot think of one even slightly negative thing to say about this lovely show...except that we have to wait so long in between series. The more I watch BBC, the more enamored I become with British television overall. The shows I love the most are much like "Detectorists"; quiet, uncomplicated, no in-your-face sexual content, just good writing, acting, technical......in other words, 'Talent' in its purest, truest form. Please keep this wonderful show going and please never adopt America's television format.
