Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Please improve the music
Why did Disney/Star Wars decide to get rid of a lot of the classic orchestrated music during some of the most important scenes throughout this episode? Without it, Star Wars just doesn't feel like Star Wars... too modern, no sense of real tension and emotion. Is it being saved for the end/ more climactic scenes? If yes, that's too bad that we only get to have Obi-Wan's orchestrated piece by John Williams (and maybe some classic existing ones will be played later on?).
Something feels off with the look and feel, sometimes the image feels too digital like a fan film, and a lot of the CGI doesn't even feel on par with the prequels. The lighting is dull, as well as the set-piece, and without orchestrated music, that entire combination felt really low budget.
Something's off with the lightsabers... something just doesn't feel right, they don't look as powerful, and they look shorter than they should be, the sound effects are also not as powerful.
But besides those negative points, Ewan McGregor is great as Obi-Wan, so 6/10, average at best.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa (2022)
That was very..... average
This feels similar to one of the worst episodes from Mandalorian season 1 (4 and 5). Don't get me wrong, there are some great scenes but sadly when the opposite happened it really took me out of the moment / Star Wars universe. Sometimes the use of weird (technoish) background music, some small characters that look like they don't belong in the SW universe but more like Star Trek, the use of colours on those bikes, some of the wacky action choreography. It made me think about Matrix Ressurections, one of the key reasons it lacked in quality was not involving action director Yuen Woo-Ping from the previous 3 films, so I checked on Mandalorian stunt coordinators and it seems like the same people are not involved with Boba Fett, so I wonder if that plays a role as well? Anyway, my hopes are still there, and I really hope that this episode will remain to be the biggest disappointments/fillers of the series, and that the best is yet to come.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 6: The Prisoner (2019)
Director Rick Famuyiwa nailed it again!
In my opinion this episode puts the previous two episodes to shame. I was actually really hyped for Dave Filoni to direct episode 5, however, too many small elements really hurt that episode. The concept was alright, however some of the generic background music, overuse of similar camera angles, and especially the acting made me worried about the episodes to come. That said, this episode redeemed my expectations and I hope to see Rick Famuyiwa direct more episodes as he also did great with episode 2.
The action choreography is clear and epic! This episode definitely nails that. The actors delivered great performances. I was on the edge of my seat!
The only downside is that I'm a little bit concerned about where the story is heading. I would've loved to have more of a general outline of storytelling between each episode. So far all the episodes after episode 3 feel quite disconnected with a story line, so I do hope that this series will get back on track with the next episode as there are only 2 or 3 episodes remaining in this season.
And as far as I can tell from everyone watching this: PLEASE MAKE THE EPISODES LONGER, 45-60 minutes would be PERFECT!!!
The Mandalorian: Chapter 5: The Gunslinger (2019)
Good, but some of the music and acting.... too "Disneyish"
In my opinion this episode and the previous episode had a weakness with some of the actors. In the previous episode, the 2 male farmers felt like they didn't have any acting experience, and in this episode the boy trying to get into the guild doesn't fit quite in tone with the Star Wars universe, his acting was quite bad as well. The generic comedic background music used when the construction lady encounters baby Yoda is something that doesn't belong in the Star Wars universe imho. Too many shots of the back of baby Yoda's head makes him unfortunately look less lively, they should've avoided those shots. Overall the story, background characters, Mandalorian, and everyone else in this episode were great, however the few negative points that I mentioned will really hurt the series in the long run, so I do sincerely hope that these will get noted.
