Flower Girl (2013)
Comical and Enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good romance with laugh out loud moments. I laughed at many of Kemi's facial expressions. It was fun watching her grow from a naive young girl to a confident woman. I liked the way the relationship between Kemi and Tunde is allowed to develop slowly and deliciously. Although the movie begins with Kemi obsessed with having a wedding, her newly acquired maturity is reflected when she tells Tunde to go to America to make his movie. She can wait.
Lupin (2021)
Not Whodunnit, But Why
Omar Sy, oh my! If for no other reason, watch the Netflix series "Lupin" to see Omar Sy. As the jewel thief Assane Diop, Sy exudes muscular masculinity and vulnerable charm. A rogue with phenomenal acting skills, authentic disguises, ethos and intellect, Assane is also a gentleman. And he is Black. I like that the writers use his race as part of the plot instead of ignoring it. Assane employs racism to his advantage. Aware that Black people are invisible in the world of white folk, his blackness is a camouflage.
The story is fun rump with comical escapades, humor and pathos. There is violence, but with limited screen time. Lupin is safe to watch with older children without the embarrassment of sex or profanity. Action is so rapid and Assane's fingers so nimble that seeing heists and exploits from a second perspective is helpful. I also like a good whodunnit that ties loose ends into a nice bow.
Harriet (2019)
Action, Adventure and Romance
I absolutely love this movie. Cynthia Erivo embodies all we know about Harriet Tubman. She is stoic, emotional. courageous and carries a gun that she will use if necessary. In this movie we see how enslaved families maintained their unity and connection despite the vile institution they endured. They not only survived, they thrived. Recent movies about enslaved individuals focus on the horrors and hardships. In this movie we see familial love, romantic love, how agonizing, difficult decisions are made and those who organized to fight for freedom for others. I love that the movie has a happy ending. This is a perfect movie for such a time as this. It is filled with hope.

The Commuter (2018)
Action + Suspense = Entertaining
I like the build up of suspense and the good fight scenes/ These scenes were just long enough, not over extended.Yay for the old gray-haired guy. I like that the writers did make an attempt to explain the conspiracy. So many movies leave you wondering why a character takes certain actions. The answer was well laid out here. I also like the feel of an old-fashioned Alfred Hitchcock movies. Of course, no one can meet Hitchcock standards, but the flavor was there. When I watch a thriller, I like for all the loose ends to be tied up neatly at the conclusion. I think writers are lazy when they leave the viewer to fill in the blanks. This movie satisfactorily ties up all loose ends.
Rampage (2018)
Good Humored Action
The purpose of this movie is fulfilled. The storyline is sketchy with just enough details to keep the action moving forward. The actors are credible and do their jobs well. The movie is light and entertaining with plenty of action. There is some blood, but not too much on the gory side.
Uncle Drew (2018)
Laugh Out Loud Funny
A senior citizen, I went to this movie with my 29 year-old daughter and 13 year-old granddaughter. We all had our laugh out loud moments during the movie. It's fun and appealing. I can't think of anything not to like. Even the despicable characters were so extreme you had to like them. If you go to the movie for the fun of it-not to critique-you will enjoy.
