World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries (2011)
Well worth a watch for the Zombie aficionado
I don't usually take the time to review movies on here but when I see an injustice happening to a more than decent Zombie movie I just had to give this film it's props.
I can sum up this movie like this: If you're a fan of zombie movies and have sat through film after film in hopes you're going to find that next great flesh eating flick you will like this one. This is probably the best Zombie flick that's come out since 'La Horde'.
Simple and to the point I know, but I've waded through upwards of 120 zombie flicks and when you find a little gem like this it makes watching all those garbage ones like Dead Country and forest of the dead all worth while.
This had strong acting, good directing, great makeup jobs and a planned out script that they stuck to. You can tell from watching this the actors really put their all into it and that alone puts this movie on top of so many of even the main stream movies being pumped out nowadays.
The one thing about this movie that probably affected it's ratings is that it is filmed in the 'blair witch' hand held camera style. So if that style of filming makes you dizzy or nauseous, you may want to pass on this one.
I'm going to give one a 6 out of 10 which in my books places it alongside such Zombie films as Biozombie, Tombs of the blind dead and Quarantine.
Dead Country (2008)
Not suitable for even the most die hard zombie aficionado
No Budget. No Plot. No gore. No suspense. No Comedy. No point.
This 'movie' is really nothing more than a 75 minute collection of the directors friends appearing on camera for no other reason than to have their name attached to a movie.
I watch many zombie movies, most of which have a budget of a high school party weekend (at best) and while those are bad.. this is worse.
There is no plot at all. The movie basically is a collection of scenes of actors/actresses that simply are thrown into the movie for no purpose other then to have a scene in the movie.
Basically take random scenes from random (extremely)low budget zombie flicks put them together and you have this movie.
If there is anything that can be said to be tolerable with this 'movie' it is that the director tried to keep it interesting with the occasional breast show or otherwise scantily clad woman scene. But it isn't even close to worth it.
If you are contemplating watching this, take a look at my watched movie list - http://www.imdb.com/mymovies/list?l=37512911 - and you will see 130+ zombie movies and this one is possibly the very worst of all the ones I've seen.
Save yourself the 75 minutes... seriously.
L'etrusco uccide ancora (1972)
zombie lovers beware
Just a quick note to all my fellow zombie aficionados out there.. the title of this movie is misleading. While the movie itself is not too bad, sadly there are no living dead here.
This movie is actually an early 1970's murder mystery, the dialogue at times is very dry, although not bad the whole way through. The directing is o.k however the editing is really quite sketchy (you know the kind where all the sudden an actor is in a new position instantly, or they've abruptly cut to a new scene.)
So if like me you planned on watching this to add another notch onto your undead movie collection belt let your search continue.
Zombie Bloodbath (1993)
Only for the most dedicated Zombie enthusiast
Wow, this was a very bad movie... as read in other comments this movie has no plot, no character development, they possibly had some kind of script but it's difficult to tell based on the actual end result.
The editing of this movie was really non-existent, it tends to jump from scene to scene without any connection or anything to assist the viewer in determining what is actually happening.
All in all this is simply a low budget zombie flick that was not thought out at all, has bad acting, bad dialogue, bad everything.
The only thing that saves this movie from a 1 or 2 is the gore factor, I think this must be where they spent whatever money they had to try to justify making this.
Unless you are (like me) dedicated to finding and watching all the zombie flicks you can find, do not watch this. Period.
Autumn (2009)
Fresh and interesting approach to the zombie genre
First, if you're a fan of zombie flicks don't be fooled by some of the other comments claiming this is the worst movie ever. This was an excellent attempt to break away from the traditional zombie holocaust movie where we are bombarded with gore and a predictable plot.
I say attempt because while the storyline in this movie is quite strong the directing was lacking, the screenplay needed to be further refined and the acting was not bad in spots but was also not so good in spots.
All in all this was more of a suspenseful movie, not the gore-fest us zombie fans are used to. A welcome addition to the genre and a nice break from some of the teen horror garbage that is put out there (think House of the Dead, forest of the dead type of thing)
Dead Moon Rising (2007)
Cut the low budgets some slack
Question #1. Why do people that don't like low budget horror... watch a low budget horror?
Question #2. Why do people that don't like low budget horror and watch it bother to take the time to rate it on IMDb?
Beats me... I've seen enough low budget Zombie flicks for two lifetimes and I can tell you that this was a clever, witty low budget film.
Forget B-movie, this barely had enough of a budget to qualify for a C movie. But you know what, the writing was more than enough to save it from it's monetary woes.
You have to know what you're in for.. it seems every review I write of a low budget zombie flick, I keep coming up with the same thing.. If you want Romero GO RENT A ROMERO FLICK!
This is low budget at its finest and you have to appreciate it for what it is. A clever, witty, comical decently written script with a solid effort by all members involved.
Bottom line: If you are a fan of Zombie/Infected movies and are on a quest to watch'em all... this is a must see. Especially due to the relative obscurity of the movie itself.
The Vanguard (2008)
Much better then the IMDb ratings
Once you read the other comments on this film you quickly figure out that people seem to either love or hate this movie. Which I believe would probably classify this movie as a success in the directors eyes with that alone.
First this is not really a zombie movie (or infected for the purists) in the normal sense of the genre (they are only a minor part of the story) so if that's what you're looking for you may want to keep looking.
This was a refreshingly new and fairly unique storyline for a movie within the zombie/infected genre. Typically a movie in this category can only keep your interest with gore or suspense, however with this film it was the story itself that keeps you watching.
If you're hoping for a big budget 28 Days/weeks later, or George Romero type of movie with tonnes of Gore and a refined script.... then you may want to re-watch those.
But if you enjoy a low budget movie with a decent script where all people involved with the project genuinely tried their best to make it work I would definitely recommend this.
Doomsday (2008)
Avoid and watch MadMax again.. this is just bad
That so many people have actually given this film a high rating is inexplicable. I watched this because the IMDb rating was pretty decent and I'm a big fan of the B action movie genre. What a disappointment.
It starts off well and looks to be building to be a decent movie. Unfortunately the writer just ran out ideas quite early and it appears decided that you may as well try to copy a successful movie if you have no ideas of your own.
Because I'm a fan of this type of film I really try not to pick this kind of movie apart because you kinda know you're expecting some semi mindless fun. Well I didn't have to worry about it because this movie just fell apart on it's own. This movie is sooooo full of holes it doesn't even come close to making sense. Scene after scene has continuity errors and the entire premise of the movie is just not possible.
The really sad thing is that this isn't even a totally low budget film! You could be a bit more forgiving if you knew they only had 10 or 20 thousand to make this but it's obvious they had much much more.
The one bright spot is the makeup and costumes were well done and some of the action sequences were well put together. Which is the only reason I don't give this movie a 1.
Zombie Wars (2007)
A Good B class Zombie Flick
As usual I checked this site before watching this movie and from the rating and some of the comments I was pretty skeptical going in. If you check the break down of the votes on this movie a bunch of people actually gave this a 1 star out of 10 which now after watching the movie I can't explain, maybe they've only ever seen the 'Romero' Zombie flicks and compared this to those or something.
Granted, this movie doesn't do itself many favors at the beginning, the acting is really cheesy and strained and there's an early character development scene that's like watching paint dry, and the makeup on the zombies... well it is a B movie.
However, after the first 20 minutes or so this flick really changes, it's like everyone involved in the movie got warmed up and things seems to come together. The acting, directing, editing.. everything but the makeup seemed to go up a few notches and make this movie worth watching.
There's a few holes in the plot, as pointed out in the comments earlier by imdb1 but if you're watching a movie called Zombie Wars you can probably get past those without too much trouble.
All in all if you like Zombie flicks I'd add this one to the list to watch, there's definitely many (much) worse zombie movies out there.
The Evil Woods (2007)
Bad.... but there's worse out there
I didn't have any expectations when I watched this so I wasn't disappointed. I don't know anything about the production of this movie but it reminded me of some kind of a student film, as such I tend to be more forgiving.
All in all this was pretty bad, lacking pretty much every aspect of a good horror movie or thriller.
However there is one great aspect to this movie, the lead character is pretty damn funny. You know that type of character in a horror movie you just can't wait to see die. This guy brings it to a whole new level and really is the only reason I kept watching this movie.
That said there wasn't really any point to this movie and you could do worse and better at the video store.
Virus (1980)
Worse then the ratings would have you believe
You have to be forgiving when you're a fan of the Zombie genre, however I was surprised to see the 4+ stars rating this film has managed to get.
Hell of the living dead has one of the most inconsistent story lines of any movie I've seen. There are various story lines that the director struggled with to try to bring together, and does manage to eventually, after wasting about an hour of our time.
I'm not sure if they really had a script when they made this, there are large portions of the film that really have nothing to do with zombies or the plot (or lack there of). I was very close to turning this one off several times but kept it going with the hope that there must be a light at the end of the tunnel. (my mistake)
However that said, if you're a hard core Zombie fan and have seen just about every other one made and you have a goal to see them all you may as well sit through this.
Although it's probably best watched when you have something else you could be doing as you may very likely turn it off anyway!
