Land of Smiles (2016)
Great original movie
I loved this movie. It had me at the edge of my seat right to the end. I like when a plot is not too obvious. I thought the scenery was beautiful, the acting was spot on and the suspense fantastic. I don't know what the two bad reviews were about. They are so critical it seems almost a personal vendetta. Maybe they attempted to be in this movie and did not get chosen?
The Purge: Election Year (2016)
Stupid
A REAL person as a senator??? Give me a break. What world do these producers and directors live in. Politicians, down to the local rednecks are corrupt pieces of dung., I would believe in santa claus before I'd believe a SENATOR would be for the people of the United States. This was like the ultimate stupid fantasy. It is as impossible as a unicorn. It would be like Hillary Evil Clinton actually didn't lie, steal, cheat and kill and she loved America and would protect real people. I appreciate reality in movies. I truly believe that there is no way in the world to find an honest caring politician since Kennedy....maybe Abraham Lincoln. To be in politics you have to be corrupt from the get go or you will not have that power. If they would have made the senator true to life....meaning a lying piece of trash that betrayed everyone.....I would have been on board....but this.....wow, so stupid. As a politician, she would have been trying to get inside the safe place to take them down and kill them. THAT would have been true to life. THAT would have been like true politicians. To make a politician into a caring pollyanna was just ridiculous!
Horns (2013)
Fantastic!
I don't know what the others who have written bad reviews for this movie are on, but, wow, believe me, this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. I am a person who has watched many many movies in my life, from the beach party movies, gone with the wind,Steel Magnolia's, the godfather(1 and 2 the best), a perfect getaway(my very favorite movie of all time), Gidget, Jaws (number 2 best movie), as well as all the stupid worthless movies that have come out, especially in the last 5 years or so, (40 something, sex tape, and other com rom crap). When a movie makes me laugh, cry, and be at the edge of my seat, I count them as something better than average, as something special. This movie fit the bill. I suggest others watch it and decide for yourselves. All I can say is perhaps the bad reviewers like to feel self important and elitist and will post bad reviews about everything. Good for you. But I don't believe that helps. I never read ANY professional reviews because of the exact reason stated above, no true real reviews. Professionals either are paid well to "love" a movie, or they are pretentious, elitist idiots who like to seem "special". I do not believe or respect professional reviews and definitely would not base my decision on whether or not to see a movie on their reviews. I would like to think that normal people would be, well, normal. I guess thats not always true. So, if you want a review from a normal person who appreciates a movie for the emotions it evokes, the entertainment value that it gives and the quality of acting and writing that it has, then, please, believe me, this movie is worth watching.....definitely!!!
A Perfect Getaway (2009)
Possibly a spoiler but in my opinion one of the best films EVER!
I got a free preview of cinemax one weekend and this was on. From its title I would NEVER have thought it was this type of movie! After watching it the first time....I liked it a lot. I caught it again during the free preview and liked it more. I found it in the discount bin at Walmart and bought it. Every time I watch it, I love it more!! I have shown it to my friends, my family, my kids who also love it! I can't believe that I was not aware of this film when it was released in theatres! The beautiful scenery, the score, the acting, ESPECIALLY from Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez is absolutely fantastic! They played their parts to PERFECTION!!! The last minute twist really shocked me, even though my daughter said, she knew it all along because they didn't show the faces of the bride and groom in the beginning. I find new interesting twists every time I watch it...to me, that is what a classic movie does! The director filled this film with so much depth that I never get tired of watching! If you rent or buy one movie this year, or next year..make it the Perfect Getaway...you won't be disappointed...it IS PERFECT!!! I am adding to this review February 2013. I swear, I want to watch this movie every day! I don't understand how this never gets old for me...its weird. I love films and love to watch them more than once, but NEVER before could I watch a film more than maybe twice a year. EXCEPT for this one! I actually watched it twice in one day recently. For the people that say the characters change from the beginning to the end, thats not true, if you watch carefully, as I apparently have, LOL, the characters say things that totally make sense, is only how one interprets what they are saying..the characterizations are true from beginning to end! FANTASTIC MOVIE!!!!
Sex and the City (2008)
I love love loved it!!!!
I see there are people on here who are dissing this movie. I think perhaps they should not have seen it. They apparently do not understand Sex and the City! Women like fashion, women like sex, women like other women as friends and allies. AND a lot of times women do NOT like the way men treat women in real life!!!! I loved this show. I thought it was as good or better than the TV show. I was so afraid that there was going to be overblown characterizations, but they were TRUE to Sex and the City! I loved the entire movie! And I think its not surprising that it is as big as it is! I want to see it again and again! My daughter, 22, has already seen it twice! Its interesting to see some of these comments on here, women are NOT supposed to like fashion...they are NOT supposed to be bitter about being left at the alter...they are supposed to what???? Sit home and knit? Wow, what I also find interesting is that these same opinions don't seem to apply to 65 year old and I mean OLD MEN, who are supposed to be "COOL" (???) Running around playing adventurer. Yeah, right, talk about a ridiculous movie! I wouldn't pay to see an old, disgusting man like Indiana Jones! The guy should be in a nursing home, not a major film! Double standard rears its ugly head again....women should be young, spritely things if they want to be in a movie, but men can be wrinkled old codgers and we are all supposed to swoon! I loved this movie, I love sex and the city and I love movies like this! Apparently too many men/boys feel very threatened by women who are strong and sexual and love to do things women love to do. I think these kind of people should just stick to their exciting sports games, video games and really cool old man movies. Have fun with that! I'll have fun with this!
Succubus: Hell-Bent (2007)
Good story and good acting
I think for a B movie it was pretty darn good. The acting was all quite adequate. I have rented some pretty horrible movies on pay per view where the acting wasn't much better than a porno. It was exactly like it was advertised. A fun little horror flick. I bought it, expecting this. I didn't buy it expecting Shakespeare. There were a few good frights hidden here and there and enough nudity to make it plausible. I HATE the movies where all the women walk around in bikini's constantly flashing their boobs. What is the point. I have a pair of my own....I don't understand the thrill! LOL Maybe its because I am a little bit more mature than the average frat boy. The lead was a bit of a loser....but that didn't make it too hard to root for him OR the succubus. I thought "Heather" did a good job with the dying pool scene.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Not nearly as good as the first
I just did not like this movie. First of all its at least 45 minutes too long. Jack Sparrow was so comical in the first pirates. Now he is over the top with the foppishness. They made him a caricature of a man, previously he was clever, manly and somewhat heroic, now he seems like a coward. Yes, he comes back to "save" the crew, but, for the rest of the movie he is cowering. The sword fight on the island was just too over the top. Jack again was running away for most of the "fight". They didn't use Johnny Depp to the best of his potential. The clips I saw before seeing the movie were the only things funny in the entire movie. The rest of the movie was just like a special effect smorgasbord. It was almost a science fiction feature with the giant octopus Kraken. I was more into the story and the comedy in the first one, the second one was all about the effects. Elizabeth Swan, boring as always, now all of a sudden knows how to fight like an expert swordsman. Yes, the movie says that Will taught her how, but wow. How long were they engaged? I am guessing a few months, to learn how to fight this well would truly take years of training. She learned how to fight expertly in an amazingly short time. And the over acting when they were on the island. She was screaming like a banshee and then keels over from the heat (tongue in cheek) to get the other three to stop fighting. I'm sorry, but this woman has no comedic timing...it was overplayed and just looked ridiculous. It could have been better had the pirates stopped for a second, looked over at her, and then continued fighting. As it was, it just seemed like she was in her own little world having some kind of fit and nobody even noticed. The movie had way too much of wooden, boring Orlando Bloom. They made him the hero, the clever one, whereas in the first, it was Johnny Depp. The lady in the swamp. I liked her very much WHEN I could understand what she was saying. An authentic accent is great, but it detracts when you can't decipher it. I had such high hopes for this movie, and I really didn't like it at all. I bought my tickets in advance so I could see it immediately. Now I wish I would have waited. My daughter, brother, and fiancée all agree with this assessment. I will wait to read some viewer reviews before seeing Pirates of the Caribbean 3. No need to waste money when it will be on HBO in two months. I know this film has started filming already, but writers please...less of Elizabeth and Will...and more of a heroic, manly strong and funny Jack Sparrow!!!!!
