I was never a fan of Elvis and I'm 42. However, this movie just totally blew me away. It was so exciting and dramatic, the build up and insinuations are amazing. Yes it's not 100% accurate, but it's actually supposed to be that way so that it shows you Elvis' energy and manages to squeeze in many of his songs and give you a flavour of what he was about.
This is what a movie should be, dramatic and exciting. The mixing of the new and old songs is nothing short of genius.
Austin's portrayal of Elvis would make Elvis proud. I like Tom as Colonal Parker, I think it showed the concept of Parker perfectly, I didn't think the prosthetics were bad.
My only criticism would be, I think it should have been made into two movies.
I think the way Elvis was portrayed was very respectful. The movie isn't just about Elvis, it's also about the cultural shift he started. As previously stated I wasn't ever an Elvis fan, however, since watching this film I can see how much he has influenced the modern world, culture and music. All the musicians I love, actually loved Elvis and were influenced by him.
Since watching the film, I've done so much research on Elvis and there really has been no one else like him. The way he never berated or came across disgusted by his fans. He always cracked jokes and genuinely wanted to make people laugh and happy. I don't think the film showed enough of him laughing, as he did laugh a lot.
If anyone is interested in his life, then this film is a fantastic starting point. Remember some of it is metaphorical not all of it is 100% accurate, but that's deliberate not a mistake.
