Death of Me (2020)

The one reason you should NOT watch this movie
5 October 2022
Ppl like getting to the point, this movie starts out very intriguing but, about thought halfway you'll see the point I'm about to make. The one reason to not watch this film is that it is about 45 minutes too long. It just keeps going long after it is clearly dead. Then it has one hallucination scene after the other and at first this is interesting however, it quickly is clear that the director needed to fill in time and they just become gratuitous. Yes, the location is great, makes you want to visit Thailand and visit the Thai people.

I guess if I had to pick a second reason is that a main character suddenly disappears with little explanation.

The ONE reason you should watch this

It is a forgettable movie but if you're looking for some quick entertainment it's not too bad. By the end I wanted the killer to win but, that's just me. The one reason is it keep you interested the entire movie. Yeah, you'll watch them being stupid and doing stupid stuff but all things considered, watch it. It's ok.

The ONE reason you should watch this

This movie is very suspenseful and many parts are hard to watch (like the screwdriver scene). Acting is ok, set is ok, really it's the keeps you on the edge that makes this a worthy watch. Watch it, it's very watchable.

The ONE reason you should not watch this movie
2 May 2022
I never give twos but, this is deserved. The one reason? This movie goes nowhere very, very, very slowly. My wife got up and left with 15 minutes left and she likes everything. I left too, with 15 minutes left you know there's no way they can pull a satisfying ending. The actresses going crazy is so annoying and so badly acted. Really call a friend, take your pet for a walk, write that email you've been meaning to write. Take the time you didn't spend on this movie and make the world a better place.

The ONE reason to watch this movie

I'm a fan of Naomi but, not everyone is so this is for those people. Naomi gives a great performance as a desperate mother while her son is in grave danger. Tension builds as police cars suddenly race by. You can feel her distress and even at 53 she still looks great. Second thing, she isn't running through just some back yard shrubbery, its breath taking, filmed in Ontario during fall. If you like Naomi, you'll like this movie.

The ONE reason you should watch this movie

I never give 1s and very rarely give 10s so a 6 means a very watchable movie.

The one reason is it's a very tense, edge of your lazyboy, suspense movie. You are engaged throughout, care about the actors, and for the most part are glued to your TV.

There is just one predictable, pretty lame, scene with a knife at the end that makes you roll your eyes but, that's it.

The one reason you shouldn't watch this movie
29 January 2022
I never score a movie below a 4, so a 2 is a scorching review. Actually, there's two reasons not to watch this .....ugghhh movie?

1. Alicia Silverstone's acting is TERRIBLE! I watched her freak out scenes and just general acting and she has totally lost the skill. Also, I know this is terrible but she looks washed up, not very pleasant to relate to her.

2. The CGI is seriously funny. I mean like sharknado funny. They are CLEARLY doing the lost at sea scenes in a pool and superimposed (poorly) onto the ocean. Really pieces of their raft stiffly float next to them while supposedly splashing around in the ocean. I was almost in tears it was so bad.

Finally, even my wife thought the whole thing was terrible and she likes everything.

To the point, this movie is almost completely carried by two 12 yos. Say that in your head again, two children for almost the entire movie. Are you often entertained by child actors? Can you think of any great movies that are carried by children? If yes, enjoy the show, if no you have tested positive with being a grown up adult.

Here's why you should watch it
21 December 2021
The best thing to do is ignore what you know about reptilian behavior. You'll spend the entire movie thinking just how much can a croc really eat.

This movie is worth a watch because the acting is good, the ladies are cute, the tension is very well done and it has a very decent ending. It will entertain you and thats really all a movie has to do.

1s are punishment, not a adult rating
26 July 2021
I absolutely agree the acting from the two sheriffs is easily the worst ever. The prime bad guy was almost as bad. I assume their 10th grade drama class quality was on purpose, it's the only explanation. No adult could produce acting like that in earnest. There are times Bruce would look at the ground and I swear you could see him saying "How did I come to this?". All of his lines are given like he is embarrassed to say them. I gave 4 stars because Jaime King was really very good. I would watch her in other stuff (except a OoD2!) she really carried the movie. If you're bored and go in with low expectations you could actually be marginally entertained by this B movie. Maybe this is a spoiler, the Botoxed actress is scary, seriously, seriously scary... why would a normally pretty woman do that?

Review from regular adult
30 May 2021
It is with great disappointment I give this a 4. Since QP2 was delayed by covid, I was really looking forward to seeing this. It was to mark the end of covid and the beginning of this going back to normal with a big blockbuster movie. But, this movie is so slow! There is nothing new here, nothing. Same creatures, same using sound to defeat them, same everything. This movie relies heavily on child actor Millicent Simmonds and she is just too inexperienced and uncompelling to pull it off. Emily is only in about 20% of the movie with Millicent and Cillian trying to do it themselves and it does not work. The end is just a setup for QP3, thats it.

The best part of the movie is the beginning which is a prequel and I was thinking YES! But, it doesn't last and the boredom begins. Long boring scenes of nothing new. VERY disappointed.

I don't understand all the hate. The most "Helpful" review complains that they didn't get enough answers? They explain the reason of everything Wut? Complains about in the first six minutes of the movie, if you have half a brain nothing is odd or random. Well, except why they needed a fire.

This movie has an interracial couple but, for once, it doesn't come off as "Forced woke" crap that is the Hollywood norm. It is very natural and works really well.

I don't like child actors they just don't have the skill or experience yet but, this actor was very good.

Good ending, this movie is worth a watch, very entertaining and a solid 6. I am NOT an Angelina fan, most her stuff is stiff like her face but, she pulls off a believable character and is entertaining. Go watch to movie already!

I only give 10s to films that move your soul, make you cry, change society, or make people think. No film deserves a 1 and few get 10s, at least from me. People here toss 10s around like they're blowing bubbles. This film was a solid 5 and very watchable. You think it is going to be predictable then WHAM it comes out of nowhere. Acting is very watchable, plot is good and no I didn't read the book. I agree movies are rarely as good as the book. Watch the movie, some parts drag but, it picks up and the end is def NOT predictable!

Suspend reason and it only mostly sucks
4 May 2021
I never give 1s, no movie is a 1, 1s are punishment not a rating. When they said the Line " We're sending you to Russia and when you come back you have to go back to jail" I knew this movie was not interested in reality. Im ok suspending reason for, you know, believing storm troopers could be real. But, the leaps this mediocre movie wanted you to take was just well, a bridge too far. Im ok with forced woke like "The Mountain Between Us" that movie was worth it and more. I loved that chemistry, this was mixing Bleach and rubbing alcohol. The female Seal Team Leader... Im ok with the forced woke but, she could not act! Not a single line felt natural. Not one. I hope you are reading this... advice breath, pretend you are that person, learn to act...

This series is really intriguing, sorta like Breaking Bad. The characters draw you in, the situations are compelling. Looking forward to ep 3 and you will be too when you watch.

I like Saul but, Im not giving this a 10 for that reason. This movie is slow and boring. I wound up fast forwarding just to see the end. It had good parts, the bus scene is really cool but, it's just so boring. Really, nothing happens for loooong periods of time. Really cool seeing Saul do something else and seeing Dr Brown from Back to the Future was cool but, still like watching a snail cross an 8 lane highway.

Honest review from an actual grown adult
4 February 2021
The Dig is a great "Slow Burn" movie great for evening entertainment. You truly care about the characters (Especially Lily James). You care about the plot and although there are no crazy chase scenes or explosions there's plenty of drama. Lily James is great, as usual, and pretty darn cute, as usual.

Being based on actual events makes it even better and the film location is awe inspiring. Def worth a watch.

Honest rating by a mature adult
26 January 2021
I watched the entire movie which says something. I usually stop 10-20 minutes into a movie if it sucks. Here's my issue, every male is over-the-top-gay or crazy school shooter or weird gun toting dad. Female lead was the saving grace in this mess, she did a good job with terrible script and plot. It in no way depicts a realistic school shooting, there's no edge of your seat unless you're 12. So many things just wouldn't happen that way. If you are bored, have run out of things to watch, it burns up a couple of hours of your bored life.

A lot of fake 10s here
21 November 2020
This movie has a lot of fake 10s. Users recent and this is their only review with copy/paste content.

It was an ok movie. One actress (the older one) was a terrible actress but, the others were ok. I don't know why ppl give 10s to ok movies. If everything is a 10 your 10s don't matter anymore. This movie had a great ending, really well done. Good suspense, good dynamics and the shooter was done very well. Def worth a watch, stay till the end it was one of the best for a B movie!

I actually cheered when the lions ate people...
28 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first 20 minutes is very action packed, it made you hate the bad guys and cheer when they are taken out. However, the movie gets very slow after that and never really recovers. Megan was unconvincing and I never felt anything for any of the characters. When they died I felt nothing. The CGI lions are terrible, like a high school final project quality. By the end when a CGI lion would eat someone I cheered, seriously, you wanted them dead that much.

Why all the hate?
1 April 2020
I really enjoyed the Animal Planet I shouldn't be alive version so, I was really interested in this version. I didn't mind looking at pretty people as the actors. There was several times I gripped my seat. They cut lots of gripping stuff that actually happened but, did a good job with what they included. Like the girl going crazy before she died. But, all things considered if you liked the ISBA version this is certainly worth the view.

Has no soul
30 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to be another PC reviewer. The interracial just doesn't work for this movie. Not because interracial doesn't work, it does in many movies. (The Mountain Between Us for one) Think of it like this - Dr Martin Luther King Jr played by a Hispanic lead. Abraham Lincoln played by a person of color. It is a disconnect that defines logic and the average person just can't get over no matter how much you want to see it work. They had no chemistry on scene together. It was like two separate actors that happened to be on the same stage. They barely looked at each other. The "We are Siamese" song. Ok, I think Disney just said hey we want to do something different (Since everything else is) well, ok I'm ok with replacing a classic song BUT, it should be with ANOTHER classic song. The cat song was flat and disjointed, maybe it should have been rap? I have to admit, I didn't finish watching it, we made it about 3/4 through and it just... well, was like watching MLK jr played by a white person. The illogical focus on PC was just too distracting.

Frozen II (2019)
8/10
A review for the 55+ group
4 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Frozen II is a story of Elsa searching for a deep mystery in an enchanted forest. She has many great songs and adventures and when she finally reaches the deep secret? It's that the horrible white male chops the unsuspecting native's head off from behind. The white male betrays the natives and tries to fill them all. The white male builds a dam that endangers everyone down river and it must be destroyed because it is damaging the natives farmlands.

Once you get passed the typical Hollywood hate-the-white-male part Frozen II is a pretty good watch. This one has a much better ending than the first which really was just a love conquers all ending.

The music scores are great but, you won't being singing them out loud out the window as you drive home. Khristoph has a very good solo that includes some uncomfortable closeups. Animated closeups? Strange. I've watched it twice now and have enjoyed both rounds. If you have GKids, take them, you'll enjoy it and they will love it!

Cats (2019)
6/10
A review ONLY for people who loves the original
23 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If you did not see the original, why are you even thinking of this movie? Go see Richard Jewel.

If you are like me you watched Cats on Broadway, watched the movie when it was still on VHS, and watched it at your local players theater after that. I worshiped this movie for years! So, like you I HAD to see this movie as a right of passage. Here is what I thought.

The writers decided no millennial could figured out the concept of Heavyside Layer, which proved to be true. I mean how many reviews screamed "What's a Jellicle Cat!?" What idiots. For any one reading this, a JC is imaginary ok? Like elves and storm troopers. So, the writers decided they have to explain why cats are trying to be chosen because clearly no young viewer has the imagination to simply say "Who cares? Enjoy the songs".

I digress, the movie drags until the "Old Deuteronomy" song. Then it is similar to your memories. Pun intended. Gus the theater cat was weak, Gandalf isn't a good singer and a great song lacked. In fact all of your songs are sung in a different tempo so, you won't be singing along. However, they added a NEW SONG I think called Beautiful Ghost. When Hayward sings it, you are stunned. Her voice is like an angel. Your mouth will hang open, go for that song. Taylor Swift does one song, Macavity, and she rocks it. The bright side of the movie. Oh and Taylor is hot even in a CGI cat suit!

Finally, Memories. The song you came to hear. Jennifer Hudson's voice was simply too strong for this song. Memories is a delicate, end of your ropes, gutter song. Sung as your last chance. Jennifer belted it out like she was at a Super Bowl concert and it just didn't fit. My wife and I walked out saying this. With all this going against it, we liked it. Would I watch it a hundred times like the original? No...

Yes you grew up with amazing films. Jaws, original superman, close encounters. You read the 9.1 reviews and think this movie is for you. So did I. If you're l like me in the first 30 seconds you know if you're in a good movie. Titanic 30 seconds in you knew you're in a good movie. 30 seconds in you'll know this movie sucks. Trust your feelings Luke, this movie does suck.
