Don't Look Up (2021)
Perfect irony
Perfect irony about how dependent we are on the media, on likes, on audience. How the purpose of the media has been distorted. The message of reality is reduced to absurdity: Will we not disturb the audience with bad news? How will this affect viewership? How many likes will we get? We ridicule and betray ourselves and others to get noticed.
A great cast, a well-presented story, which is a tragicomedy that provokes reflection, are we really not able to judge the reality in which we live? Do we really need an estimation from the internet that we are COOL?
The film touches on a serious problem of our civilization, but it is great story to watch.
The Witcher (2019)
What is wrong with the Witcher?
No! No! No! No to the screen writer Lauren Schmidt! First, what is the point to change what is perfect?! The book is written very well, the story is engaging, logical, funny where it should be and sad when it is needed. The main characters are well described and intriguing, so you do not need to remake them in a movie. More...there is a connection between the way they look like, act and the story overall. Geralt's eyes are just yellow in the TV seires- wrong. Why on Earth does Calanthe look so different?! You cannot see that Pavetta or Ciri were hers daughter and granddaughter (yeah, yeah....maybe they took the look after daddy). The physical similarity of those three did matter. Jodi May though did her best as the queen Calanthe (I loved her acting), so next time she may be the Queen Elizabeth I in another remake. Why not? The look does not matter, right? Peter Jackson could make Orlando Bloom a blue-eyed blond elf, so what went wrong here??? Just follow the master, please. Why Mousesack is a dopler?? Why is the dopler a bad character?? Why is Tris so ordinary? Where is the characteristic red hair? Why is Neneke missing in the series? Where did the afro knight and afro elf come from?? Imagine in Black Panther's Wakanda additional tribe...of Caucasian or Asian people. Would it fit to the story? Brookilon - total disaster! The forest and the driads lost their mystery, charm and uncertainty. For a moment I thought I had switched to a different movie - I do not know - Black Panther? (which I love, by the way).
The key events like Geralt's first meeting with Ciri in Brokilon or Yennefer, or Ciri again after the Cintra's fall (I will not list all of them, I am too depressed) were changed dramatically, which made the overall story flat, boring and without sense. Really, the first three episodes were like "just kill me!" I was about to start ironing, and hate ironing, just to kill the time. Generally Yennefer's history in Aretuza, romance with Istredd (that actually happened, but much later) and story of loosing fertility is made up and dull. Dialogs - no...no comment. Sapkowsky gave the plot on the plate and it was interesting, logical and entertaining, smart. Why change it? Oh, I have already asked.
The battle of Sodden Hill (no, not castle) - so wrong I wanted to cry. It looks like Nilfgard's troops got lost in the woods (I only waited for Maryl Streep to jump out) and run in panic to find a way home. The battle engaged 22 wizards and sorceress and an armies of 100 thousands warriors .. in the book. How many did you count? Yes, you could count them...that many. If you do not have budget for the battle, do not do it. Leave it in the stories told by the characters.
The episodes about the Devil (the design of the character is terrible), the Genie in the Bottle have funny and smart punch line ... in the book. It is lost in the TV show. The Golden Dragon...well...the yellow upset lizard.
I am sorry for the people who have not red the book as they really lost a lot. The book is about fantasy world, yes, but beneath of this world there is a kind of criticism and reflection of the real world, how we behave to each other, how cruel, selfish and obsessed but also generous, good and determined we can be. There is an intelligent irony of ourselves, our excuses for actions or lack of reaction when it is actually needed.
The Witcher TV series is just another fantasy film. It lacks charm, reflexion and mystery that are in the book. Despite of a good job from Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and few other of the cast I am truly disappointed. And I hope it will not turn into erotic fantasy movie.
A Castle for Christmas (2021)
Charming
Nice and charming romance placed in Scotland, which I love. What I like the most in the movie is that the characters are mature adults not some hysteric youngsters with flat problems. Yes, when you are 40, 50 or more you still have chance to find love, new friends, new motivations to change your life. The characters nicely played by Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes are after some relationships that did not last. As it is a comedy not a drama, the movie does not dwell on it, but let the characters to move on. The story line is predictable, but...I do not mind. I even do not mind the cliche of the knight on a horse to win his lady.
Overall the movie is funny with touching moments. A little bit too schematic, but.... introducing nicely to Christmas time and romance with Scottish flavour.
I would love to see the continuation of the story. :)
Sniadanie do lózka (2010)
Light, romantic comedy, that will cheer you up.
I loved it. Very light and funny romantic comedy about how life can mess up. But.... this is not the end of the world. You can turn it around and get better job, find your love and start sth on your own if you do not give up, are willing to compromise and fight for what is worth.
Yes, it is not a deep psychological movie about relationships etc., but do you really expect that from a comedy that suppose to cheer you up? The story flows nicely and I had no feeling that it is boring or too long.
It is not as predictable as some might think. Actually, until the last moment, I was not sure how it would end.
I liked that there were not cheap gigs and vulgarism so popular in many comedies.
Tomasz Karolak and Magorzata Socha were great. You can see there was chemistry between the characters they played.
So... I have faith in Polish film industry.

Planeta Singli (2016)
A very relaxing, funny and sweet movie.
A very relaxing, funny and yes.... sweet movie about love, misunderstanding, intrigue with a little bit of sarcasm. It is well served: very good acting, plot is interesting and actually each of us could find some episodes familiar. It is just so real. I wish more Polish songs were used as a background, but the foreign ones match the story as well. Well done! And I want more!
