Smile (V) (2022)

Small Acid Trips
10 April 2023
Smile is a movie that begins its session by giving you a small acid trip. Right off the bat, it sets the stage for you in a way where you would want to sit back and let it all unfold piece by piece. As the plot continues and the story moves forward from start to finish, things start to get a little slow in some places. In between the first and the last act sometimes you would want to skip forward and see the conclusion but at the same time, you would want to enjoy what's unfolding at the current moment. Director Parker Finn has made a harmony that balances between making the audience hungry and filling them in the next moment, and in that the screenplay, editing especially acting played a big role. The actors have done quite a good job of making you feel the raw emotions coming out of the screen. All in all, Smile gives you a good enough dose of horror packed with thrill to keep you seated on the chair.

Takes away the hunger
2 April 2023
Top Gun: Maverick is a movie that opens with excitement and spark which is dazzling enough to make you buckle up your seat for what's coming. Right from the opening shot to everything that follows in the first act, radiates an amount of energy that hits the spot well and doesn't quite miss. The actors in the film starting from Tom Cruise to Miles Teller, Val Kilmer and everyone else works as perfect catalysts that balance the ongoing plot and the story that keeps moving forward at a perfect pace. Talking about the story, it takes off and lands later on a smooth runway with no extra new flavor to add to the dish. The other departments have also done a good job with notable mentions of sound and cinematography whereas the editing could have gotten one more polish. Director Joseph Kosinski has created a platter of dishes that fills you up just enough so that it doesn't get bloated. All in all Top Gun: Maverick stands high as a movie that enters the room does its part, and leaves on a good note.

Tár (2022)

Packed harmony not for everyone
11 March 2023
Tár is a movie that begins its show and moves forward while holding a strong grip on your curiosity followed by a slight amount of thrill. As the presentation continues you get introduced to this engrossing plot, which then unfolds itself and exceeds to a sturdier form. One of the eye-catching things that drop in front of us very quickly is the performance along with the screenplay. The main highlight and center of attraction Cate Blanchett has showered the screen with such a dazzling performance that it feels just one step away from being completely natural. The story starts off and finishes in an untainted form but gets a little watered down close to the end, where you want to finish it off quickly and see the conclusion. Director Todd Field has delivered a delightful harmony made with such precise ingredients that it makes you hungry and on top of that makes you want a little more in certain places. Overall Tár is a movie that's ready to be added to your watchlist and presents its harmony anytime.

The Fabelmans (2022)

The flavor doesn't last that long
9 March 2023
The Fabelmans is a movie that starts with slowly feeding you the appetizer while making space to enjoy the big dishes later. Right after the wheels starts to rotate, the movie starts to grip you and tries to steer you slowly but steadily down the plot while maintaining the grip. As the movie continues to the second act things start to move at a decent pace while throwing bits of spices here and there. The story presents itself as a big main course right in front of you with a strong smell but as it moves further it starts to lose the smell and so does the taste. All the characters that appeared right from the start played a beautiful part in making you enjoy even the tiny bits of emotion through the frames, and for that, all the praise and credits go to actors starting from Paul Dano to Michelle Williams and everyone else. Coming to director Steven Spielberg has not only created just another good harmony but a piece of art that holds a fair potential to make you sit and let itself unfold until it reaches the horizon. Talking about the other departments, the camera work, cinematography, and everything else only put more spice into the dish to create an even better service. All in all The Fabelmans gives you a space to enjoy a story which unfolds in a decent way but enjoys itself while it lasts.

Women Talking (2022)

Doesn't stretch much
27 February 2023
Women Talking is a movie that starts rolling its wheels while making us feel the gravity of the story from the get-go. In the first act, things start to unravel firmly and go on like that till the end of the last act. The plot of the film while not being anything too dense or complicated holds a firm grip on our attention by using the performances of the actors as a typical spice, which works like a charm. Every single actor in the film has nailed their part so hard that it literally drags you inside that world. Coming to the story it doesn't stretch its legs much but does a good job with the amount that's available. Director Sarah Polley has put together a harmony that may not have too many eye-catching ingredients to begin with, but is still cooked with the few ones available and managed to serve a complete dish. Overall Women Talking is a movie that feels complete for what it was worth.

Elvis (2022)

Rises up to the moon
13 February 2023
Elvis is a movie that begins by pulling you inside its vibrant world and letting you get lost in all the distinct colors possible. The way the film starts its first act and carries everything to the very last one makes you sit on your chair and enjoy the moments one after another. While the story of the movie flows smoothly, the one thing that not only lets it flow even smoother but also makes it elevate to the very next level is the brilliant work of the actors. The acting plays a very significant role in this film keeping everyone glued to their chairs and asking for more as things move on. Everyone starting from Austin Butler to Tom Hanks has polished and delivered a performance that shines nothing less than a diamond, especially Austin Butler who put every ounce of his soul into this role and blazed it. Director Baz Luhrmann has created harmony not only with the front liners but with every department involved in this movie to create and put this flashy art in front of us. All in all, Elvis is a movie you would like to witness probably not just for once but more than that.

Takes its time to build things up
9 February 2023
Triangle of Sadness is a movie that begins with a story that unfolds in installments. From the very first act to the very last one, in every single one of them, you get introduced to a new chunk of the plot and new characters who then drag the story with them until the very end on their own pacing. Every time a new character appears on screen, it puts a new dish on your plate which may look vibrant from its color but rather leave a monotonous taste in your mouth in the end. All the actors in the movie did a very good job playing their part making you more invested in a scene. Coming to the story it starts off small but with time it reveals itself as something that gets unpredictable the more it moves forward. Other departments for the movie especially the camera work and cinematography really sell some of the scenes with just a single visual. Director Ruben Östlund has put together a harmony with the story that makes sure to tick its audience every time things start to get middling here and there. Overall Triangle of Sadness stands for a movie that may tick you the first time you will watch it but not sure about the second time.

Upside Down and Downside up
5 February 2023
Everything Everywhere All at Once is a movie that starts by painting a lot of chaos around you and makes you sit exactly at the center of it. Right off the bat, it introduces too many characters which then introduces the plot which then pushes the story forward and it keeps going on unless it overwhelms you with its sheer size of concept. Actors starting from Michelle Yeoh to Ke Huy Quan to Jamie Lee Curtis and everyone else have done such a phenomenal job with their performance that it just makes you want to focus on the story going forward and forget everything else. The story itself from start to end stays very chaotic but even among that it manages to express itself beautifully. Editing, cinematography, and other departments have put in so much staggering work that your wondering just doesn't stop at all. Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have created a harmony that has too many things stacked and packed in it but the way they have delivered it on the plate with a desert, in the end, is enough to keep you sitting until the end to taste it. All in all, Everything Everywhere All at Once is a movie that you will probably witness once in your life but you will surely don't wanna let that be your last time.

Grips loosely and strongly at the same time
30 January 2023
The Banshees of Inisherin is a movie that begins with steady and subtle storytelling. All the characters that get thrown at us, pull us into the void with the beautiful performance from the actors. The amount of grip this film gets on us only with their characters is harmony on its own. The story that gets played in front of us seems sluggish with not much to offer but as it moves forward it manages to open up and throw some spice in the pot for a small amount of time. Director Martin McDonagh, with everything combined whereas most of it is the sheer performances of the actors has created a harmony that blooms quite a bit but not too much overall. All in all The Banshees of Inisherin offers a story that fills you up with appetizers and leaves no room for anything else.

Would have been better if a little shorter
22 December 2022
All Quiet on the Western Front is a movie that marches on with a slow but steady grip on the audience. As the first act begins we get introduced to the plot in chunks, which not just keeps us hungry for later but also tries to make us sit on the edge during that time. The characters play a significantly important role during the whole movie, and for that all the actors deserve credit. Whether it was to deliver strong emotions or show the tension of one particular scene, every single character was on point. The harmony in this movie can feel absent for a couple of scenes but overall the story, surrounded by the direction and cinematography and everything else just fills up your belly like a full meal. All in all 'All Quiet on the Western Front' stands out as a movie that can be added in almost everyone's watchlist during the holiday, but it stays undecided whether it will be for once or more.

Not Okay (2022)
6/10
Good but could have been better
8 December 2022
Not Okay is a movie that begins with different elements from which only a few faze you right at the start. As the movie starts its first act and moves forward through the second and third until the end, it faces quite some bumps. Zoey Deutch, the main actor as well as the main attraction of this movie catches or tries to catch a lot of your attention with the combined grip of the story, screenplay, and concept. Coming to the story, it unravels in front of you as something not out of the ordinary or something not staggering but as something that's very simple yet engaging in its own way. All the actors in the film besides the main attraction Zoey Deutch, have done quite a good job portraying their characters which not just makes you feel the weight of the situation but also lets you choose openly what or who you want to root for. Director Quinn Shephard has created one of those unique harmonies with this movie where things start as something simple and stay simple but still manages to faze you with some of its elements during its run. All in all Not Okay stands as a movie that on one hand tries to make you seated with its grip and on another hand lets you loose at many places.

Underwhelming
21 October 2022
Halloween Ends is a movie that begins with a barrel of thoughts that goes left and rights setting the story up from the get-go. As the first act progresses things stay mellow for a while, even as it progresses further into the second act. All the characters played by the actors starting from Jamie Lee Curtis to the others played a good part in making the setup get a good grip on us and make us think for a while. Talking about the story itself, it plays a good enough part if not totally good while backing the movie since things start to get underwhelming in the third act. In the third act, not just does the grip on us start to get loose but also we feel like to rush to the end and see the conclusion leaving the weary things behind. Director David Gordon Green has managed to create a harmony that works like a candy which may soothe us but later loses interest in it as time goes by. All in all Halloween Ends works as an ending that may satisfy you or work as a substitute for something you have probably witnessed before.

Gets cold and old
11 October 2022
Gone in the Night is a film that begins its tale as a soothing one and goes on trying to keep it like that. In the very first act of the movie, the screenplay tries to hook you up little by little with small suspense and thrill until a certain point. As the movie progresses into the second act things start to get a little stale along the way. The characters played by Winona Ryder and others felt like quite a deal for a good amount of time but in the end, it doesn't bring anything really good to the table. Talking about the story it started off as a good ride or we thought would be a good one but ended up like a dull episode of a show. The cinematography and editing and other stuff may look good for a little while but don't get end up in a good harmony by Eli Horowitz. In the end, Gone in the Night checks out as a movie that's better marked off for a weekend watch or any watch.

A lot of misses
8 September 2022
Anything's Possible is a movie that begins with a slightly intriguing concept trying to make us invest into it from the get-go. Right in the first act thing that mostly catches your attention is the plot and until the end of the third act that pretty much stays the same. The characters play their part as good eye-catcher but most of the time misses the shots. Talking about the story everything that gets thrown at you gets easily unfolded, where most of it either stands quite predictable and the rest of it stays a bit obvious. Director Billy Porter tried to gather some vibrant resources and form a stable harmony but it keeps getting startled as it moves on from the first to the last act. Editing and screenplay needed more time to invest in along with the writing department. All in all Anything's Possible stands as something you can try adding to your list to watch but it will probably be added as a one-time watch.

Not persuasive enough to watch
1 September 2022
Persuasion is a movie that starts sailing in a vibrant way and docks at the end in the exact same manner. At the very beginning of the journey, things that catch our attention are the characters and that stand as one of the sole entities of this film. The story progresses in a stable way but makes you expect a few bumps ahead of the road. In the first act, it blooms with enough colors to charm us a little bit whereas in the second and third acts down the line those colors start to fade. The screenplay feels like something different in some parts but with time you can expect which things are about to happen and unveil. Director Carrie Cracknell tried to make an enjoyable harmony but in the end, it didn't quite end up into something that will delight everyone. All in all, Persuasion checks out as a movie that you can try adding to your watchlist but more than it's in the list of one-time watches.

The Sea Beast (2022)

A visually stunning journey
31 July 2022
The Sea Beast is a movie that begins sailing in such a charming way that it hooks most of your attention from the beginning. Right off the bat one of the few things which help grip us into this world are the characters at first and then the visuals that surround the characters. The visuals and cinematography play a big role in making this journey really soothing for us. From the first act to the last things goes on quite a steady pacing with a few little bumps but they easily get ignored. Coming to the story it seems like something fresh and new but later on you realize the same smell this story is giving off by having the same pattern as the movies that came before this one. The plot tied with the characters and the enjoyable moments is what steered it until the very end. Director Chris Williams has certainly done a good job making us sit for the whole lot and gripped us to our sits with this harmony. All in all The Sea Beast stands high as something you wanna watch for the first time and maybe for a second time also.

Such a fun ride
14 July 2022
Cha Cha Real Smooth is a movie that starts off radiating such an energetic vibe that as time passes it wraps you up in its energetic field. Right off the bat, the few things which catch the best of our attention are the presentation and the characters balancing each other out in such a good way throughout the whole movie. All the characters played by actors starting from Dakota Johnson to Cooper Raiff and everyone else give a vibe so well that you just wanna sit and see the whole play out in front of you without asking anything. Plot of the movie plays a really good part in making this whole journey enjoyable along with the story backing things up all the time. Talking solely about the story, it doesn't stand as something eye-opening but it does open our eyes enough to make us invest in every single bit of it. Editing and cinematography and all the other stuff add more weight to the stuff that's already on the table and that makes it more mesmerizing. Director Cooper Raiff certainly made a good harmony out of this story and all, where we can invest as much as one would want to. In the end, Cha Cha Real Smooth will be a good addition to almost everyone's watchlist for a weekend watch.

Spiderhead (2022)
5/10
Same dish again and again
6 July 2022
Spiderhead is a movie that starts its engine by putting bits of suspense and thrill in your mind, which works for quite some time but not for long. Right in the start, we get introduced to the characters, the plot, and the story that's gonna get unfold. Starting from the first act of the movie things start to seem interesting from a certain view but as time passes things start to become quite shallow and transparent especially when it comes to the story. The movie tries to inject bits of everything from start to finish with its presentation but instead of making it more compelling it starts to give us a feel like we are watching episodes of some tv-series with not-so-engaging drama. Talking solely about the story it comes similar to a lot of movies that bear the same patterns which came before this particular one. The characters tried to grip us in their own story and drama but in the end that also doesn't turn out something else than we already have. In the end, Spiderhead works as a harmony that you can simply choose to listen to or not based on your own preference.

Hustle (2022)

The perfect game
23 June 2022
Hustle is a movie that starts by giving you a sense of a world that is vibrant with the touch of spiciness. Right from the beginning, the plot puts you in the middle of all the characters. As time passes by the characters start to get spicier and spicier and that makes you wanna ask for more of that. The pacing of the film plays a really big part in keeping everything together where it takes us neither too slow nor too fast on this journey. The story this movie delivers doesn't come as something too big but the presentation that works behind all of this makes this a really good harmony that we can enjoy and feel to the fullest and for that, the director Jeremiah Zagar can take all the credits. Talking about the actors starting from Adam Sandler to everyone else, everyone did a good job bringing something to the table. Overall Hustle works as a movie that can give you the peace of mind you want for your weekend.

Emergency (2022)

Just doesn't rise
17 June 2022
Emergency is a movie that turns its wheel in quite a vibrant way right at the start but with time it doesn't end up rotating smoothly later on. As the movie progresses we get introduced to the characters and the plot which carries the movie for quite a bit until the story hits the door. From the very first minute, the characters try to play the big role of getting us invested in the drama and it works till a certain point. All the actors pulled quite an interesting work on the table but more could have been done. Talking about the story and also the presentation on board it didn't give the vibe of a movie where instead it felt like an episode from a teen drama show. From the overall perspective, the film needed more polish in a lot of places. All in all, Emergency works quite as a one-time watch for your weekend.

Ambulance (2022)

Too much adrenaline but nowhere to go
27 May 2022
Ambulance is a movie that fire up its engine with an adrenaline boost and goes on to keep up the level of that. In the very beginning, the two things that get thrown at us are the characters and the plot itself. Right in the first act, the film runs on very fast-paced wheels introducing the characters, story, and everything else in a flash. One of the few things that try to catch our attention is the action-packed and tensed presentation, but it only works as a steroid boost and not a tool to make us invest more into the story. Coming to the story director Michael Bay has put together an explosive story that only bursts when it comes to action and thrill, but not on the suspense part. Talking about the editing and other stuff, all the stuff felt a bit rushed and needed more polish. Talking about the actors, almost everyone tried their best to keep us engaged with their characters but that also doesn't work out overall considering the so little time to shake them. All in all, Ambulance works out as a movie that gives you a big bag full of adrenaline and steroid shots which will be able to make you engaged and invested but later on you will get pulled out of it the moment you start to see and realize the similar patterns you have witnessed before. In the end, this film gives you a choice of watching it or not in the very first minutes of the beginning. In terms of watching it feels kinda heavy for a one-time watch.

Firestarter (2022)

Becomes tasteless pretty quick
16 May 2022
Firestarter is a movie that begins its ride on a very bumpy road, and as the movie progresses things go quite the way down instead of going up. Right off the bat, few things which try to get in your head are the story and concept but it doesn't stay there for long once you start remembering all the predecessors this particular movie has. The actors tried a good amount of stuff to make us feel and be in the moment but it also doesn't work out in its entirety. Talking to the other stuff, first of all, the presentation feels sloppy and out of touch almost all the time. After that, the screenplay and editing both felt like they needed to be redone completely. Coming to the story itself it felt like the same old dish with a new label stick on it. All in all Firestarter in the end stands as a movie that you can give a try if you have some time to waste.

Choose or Die (2022)

Total mid
30 April 2022
Choose or Die is a movie that starts turning its wheels with suspense wrapped in some thrill. From the very beginning, the film offers us a plot that makes us wonder and question what's gonna pop up next from the box. The actors try a good amount with the time they got allotted to make us connect with this world as much as possible but there's only so little they end up doing in the whole run. Talking about the editing and screenplay both of those departments needed a lot more polish but more than that they needed a total makeover. In the total length of the movie, the screenplay tries a great deal to make us sit tight but it doesn't go that way as the movie progresses. Coming to the story itself it started as something you would wanna have a taste of but with time the taste kept getting mild to the point where you would want it to end. All in all Choose or Die offers a serving that you can count as an optional dish for your weekend.

Slowly and steadily but finishes the race
21 April 2022
All the Old Knives is a movie that begins its introduction with a sudden thrill that proceeds with a few bumps ahead on the road. Right off the bat things which try to catch both our direct and indirect attention are the elements of the plot. The story plays a sweet and sour take on us revealing the story slowly but steadily in front of us. All the actors provided a performance for their characters that left a good enough taste on our tongues. Right from the first act to the second act, in every corner, this film drops elements that seem quite predictable for the story wherein in the third act the movie redeems itself by not quite walking the exact same path as its predecessors. Director Janus Metz Pedersen has assembled a harmony that works like a dish that seems old from the looks but offers a few more flavors after savoring it to the fullest. All in all, All the Old Knives arrives and leaves as a movie that can create a spot on your watchlist but to watch it for a second time or not stays totally on the perspective of the individuals.

The Bubble (2022)
4/10
Not even an appetizer
15 April 2022
The Bubble is one of its kind movie that starts and ends in such an ordinary way. The film kicks off its engine giving us a sense that something comic is on its way but later on you realize that it's definitely not that. From the very beginning, the movie gets on our bad side pretty quickly. All the characters played by the actors have their own senses in it along with their comic timing but it doesn't work out a great deal for the whole run. The way everything in this film has been set up provides us with an act that does not look like a movie but more than that it literally gives the vibe of a behind the scene stuff which is running on the fumes of a burned-out story. Director Judd Apatow has come up with a harmony that does not soothe our ears for sure but instead of that, it puts us in front of a presentation that tests our patience for 2 long hours. All in all The Bubble stands out as a movie that you can watch for sure but as a joke.
