Cheesy and fun!
27 April 2023
I watched this while eating a cheeseburger. (Seriously. I did. I'm not lying.) ...and while eating a bunch of fries cooked in my air-fryer. It was the perfect dining experience. I was on the edge of my chair eating cheesiness and on the edge of my chair watching cheesiness. I couldn't put the hamburger down 'til I finished it, and I couldn't stop watching until the movie was over.

Perfect combo of food and entertainment !

Seriously though, if you are in the mood for mindless adventure, this movie is for you. Fair warning though, if you are an alt-right conspiracy theory MAGA person, you will find plenty of stuff in this movie that will offend you and make you want to write a bad review. ...Like so many of the reviewers already did without revealing their underlying political sentiments.

Very Bingeable
27 November 2022
If want to watch something enjoyable that will fit into one day's binging, this is it. Six episodes that each last less than an hour, will provide a solid escape from boredom for the better part of a day. You won't regret watching this. It's not perfect and feels a little too thrown together at times, but maybe that's part of the appeal. When a storyline leaves you feeling a bit unhinged, it draws you in because you want to figure out what the heck is going on. By the end of the six episodes, you don't exactly get a perfect sense of resolve. It leaves you hanging in a way that provides intrigue.

Glad I stuck it out as far as watching this slow paced movie to the end.
23 September 2022
I didn't know exactly what to expect when I started watching this movie. I decided to be open to whatever transpired. I'm glad I did. And I am glad I didn't read any of the reviews ahead of time to bias my viewing experience.

Oddly, I can't nail down what I like so much about this movie. Maybe it had something to do with the ending. ...Which was something I could relate to personally because I shared something in common with the lead character as far as what he was grieving for.

To be perfectly honest, I can't actually predict if anyone else will like this movie. All I can say is that, as slow paced as this movie was, I am glad I stuck it out to the end. For me it was a 9 star, almost 10 star, movie. Everything about the movie added up in the end for me.

I know what I have said is not much to go on. But it is the best I can come up with as far as comping up with an explanation of why I rated this movie so high.

The Sandman (2022– )

I liked The Sandman. But if you are a "Don't say gay" Republican, don't bother.

I liked The Sandman. But if you are a "Don't say gay" Republican, don't bother. You won't like it. Stay away. And don't pretend you watched the whole series.

That being said... I found this series entertaining, but only up to a point. I wanted to like it more, but a 7 rating is as high as I could go. The storyline was too disjointed and lacking in continuity. (Maybe like real dreams are???)

What kept me watching was the interesting visuals and the down-the-rabbit-hole oddities. If you liked the 2010 iteration of Alice in Wonderland, you might like The Sandman. But if that genre leaves you cold, don't expect to be entertained.

BTW ~ I am gay. And I'm not sure what to think of The Sandman's use of more than the usual number of LGBTQ characters. My initial fear was that it would energize backlash. The bad reviews tell me that someone must of rang the dinner bell for right wing trolls. But then I am tired of shrinking back from the haters. I am beyond weary of their relentless attacks. Screw them if they can't handle characters in The Sandman.

The only way to see this is to fast forward with intermittent viewing
15 February 2022
This movie has the sophistication and comic timing of a Disney TV program targeted at a child. It would be a good children's program except for the fact that there is a fair amount of adult content.

I started watching in earnest, but found I couldn't take it anymore. I fast forwarded while stopping periodically to figure out what the storyline was. It was easy way to figure out what the movie was all about. I feel like I missed nothing.

I would suggest investing your entertainment viewing time in another title. In short, don't bother.

Watchable but nothing to rave about
14 February 2022
I finished watching the entire series. My overall impression is that storyline would have flowed better by being edited down to half the number of episodes.

I was originally drawn to watching this series by having seen all the Ozark episodes up to the first half of season 4. Julia Garner. Is a real fire cracker of an actress in Ozark. But in Inventing Anna, not so much. A southern accent is one of the easiest to imitate and Garner pulls it off like a champ in Ozark. But her accent in Inventing Anna is imposingly inauthentic and very distracting. If a good accent coach could not have fixed her delivery, then she should not have been cast in the role. I think producers and the casting director were trying to cash in on Garner's success in Ozark. But ultimately she was miscast in the process. And believe me, Garner's performance in Inventing Anna cannot hold a candle to her performance in Ozark.

Dull. Vain attempt to be compellingly cerebral.
13 January 2022
I kept pausing this movie to take a break from it and go do something else. It took me 2 days to finish it. That tells you something right there. It bored me. I found I didn't care if the girl was a sociopath or not. That being said, this movie is basically somewhat watchable if you can get through it without giving into the urge to "change the channel". The movie had high production values, but the storyline just didn't do it for me. So I gave it 3 stars which for me means it is watchable, but barely.

This movie sacrifices plausibility to the expression of motifs
12 January 2022
Despite the lack of plausibility, I liked this movie. It was not until the end that I realized that this movie has an overriding agenda of motif expression. There a motif of 1960's space technology that is implausible in a realm of interstellar travel. There is a water-world motif where, even with global warming sea level rise, there should still be plenty of dry land. ...And so on. But if you can set all of that sort of thing aside, the plot-line does keep you on the edge of your seat and makes this movie a worthy watch.

The Leftovers (2014–2017)

Surreal. Don't try to make sense of it and you might just love this series.
11 January 2022
So much about this series doesn't add up to a rational plotline. But then again, I don't think it was ever meant to. The Leftovers has a dream like quality. Just like in dreams, things happen that don't seem to make any sense. Yet we need our dreams. People who do not dream (experience REM sleep) will literally lose their minds. Our dreams reflect our life experiences on a level that is beyond rational thinking. Yet dreams can have an engrossing quality. ...Just like The Leftovers.

I realized early on if I tried to make sense of The Leftovers, it would disappoint me. I decided it was a rollercoaster ride and I was going to go for it. I'm glad I did.

If you are an avid Dylan O'Brien fan, you might like it. Otherwise, meh!
2 January 2022
There is always something consistently charismatic about Dylan O"Brien. The cinematography, staging, and special effects were equally amazing. ...Especially considering this is a low-budget and low grossing film. However, the storyline was about as trite as all the delusional psychedelic gobbledygook notions that were common in the drug culture of the 1960's and 1970's. (I know. I was there.) I managed to get through the whole movie simply because I was feasting on Dylan O'Brien eye candy. Otherwise, it would have been pretty much a waste of time. Don't watch this movie and expect to be entertained by the storyline. However, if you are a serious film studies student, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Watch "He Never Died" first. It properly set's you up for this movie.
31 December 2021
As a stand alone movie, I don't think "She Never Died" makes much sense. I believe it only worked for me because I saw "He Never Died" first. I suggest you do the same. "She Never Died" is only worth watching if you have watched its predecessor first.

Very different. If you want something to spice up your viewing experience, this is it.
31 December 2021
If you are tired of formulaic movies, then I am sure you will finally be entertained by this one. This movie really pushes the boundaries. I don't know for sure that others will like it, but I did. One of my standards for whether a movie is good or not is whether it is worth re-watching. I expect I will re-watch this movie a few times in the coming years. I suspect it will get better with each viewing.

This mini-series is just ok. Nothing special. But not that awful either.
31 December 2021
I stumbled across this title while browsing the free TV offerings on the internet. It's available everywhere from You Tube to multiple ROKU channels. Since I am somewhat a fan of anything with one of the Ashmore twins, I decided to watch it despite the bad reviews found here at IMDB. (I usually check IMDB before watching anything.)

Bad reviews tend to bias my appreciation in the positive direction. Since I didn't expect anything that good, I wasn't disappointed by watching this mini-series. The fact that I stayed with watching it all the way to the end without pausing to think about whether it was worth finishing... well, I gotta say that's a good sign.

Even though it was first aired on the Sci-Fi channel, it was a Hallmark production (per Wikipedia). In other words, think bland but worthy of family viewing. Children might watch it without feeling much negative judgement. But if you are a serious fan of sci-fi fantasy, maybe you should find something else to watch.

I had to force myself to finish watching this movie.
13 November 2021
When am I going to learn? I should always read the user reviews on a movie first. If I had read these reviews, I would not have bothered watching.

I really did have to force myself to finish watch this movie hoping that at some point it would redeem itself. It was a futile effort. I should have bagged it less than half way through.

I am a big science fiction fan. But I only like the good stuff. This movie definitely wasn't the good stuff.

A-List actors. But hopelessly unentertaining. Don't waste your time!
29 September 2021
I started watching this movie thinking that any movie with A-List actors like Aaron Eckhart and Tommy Lee Jones should make for a good movie. Wrong!

At best this movie was reflective of the times we live in where conspiracy theories are rampant and disinformation is the manipulative tool of choice. But that's about as far as it goes because most of us with critical thinking skills already know it and are totally sick of it. We don't need an hour and a half of movie that belabors the point.

I shoulda, woulda, coulda read the reviews here at IMDb first and consequently realized I needed to skip this movie altogether.

I really wanted to like this movie, but......
24 September 2021
I simply didn't find this movie very entertaining. I genuinely wanted to like this movie because I am gay, 71 years old, and have a gay friend whose husband is now in custodial care with Alzheimer's. I have watched my friend's unfortunate situation unfold over the past few years. It is nothing like what is depicted in this movie. In fact, I can't even imagine that this movie's romanticized version of this kind of dilemma could ever take place in reality. I found this lack of reality a bit disheartening. I suppose if you can overlook that this movie has very little resemblance to real life, maybe you can appreciate the romanticism. But I just couldn't do that. This movie didn't draw me in. I barely made it to the end. If it were not for the gay characters, I probably would have never finished watching.

All the above being said, the movie has high production values. Acting, directing, camera work, editing, etc. Were all superior. Otherwise I would have given this movie 2 or 3 stars instead of 5.

Excellent action movie. Keeps you on the edge of your chair.
14 August 2021
Excellent production values. The director has some major accomplishments on his resume. ...Including co-directing Cloud Atlas and Sense8. He also composes film scores, writes scripts, and produces.. A true genius.

See this movie. Everything from editing to camera work is awesome. See A-list actors at the best. You won't be disappointed.

Don't waste your time seeing this movie
13 August 2021
Ten minutes in I thought this movie is so bad, it might be bad on purpose. So I read some of the other reviews. A few said stick with it because it gets better. I made it halfway through. It does get better but it's still pretty bad. I can't imagine that the rest of the movie is worth watching.

I checked the bio and the credentials of the director. Very flimsy and unimpressive. However, the actors all have solid resumes. I can't figure out why they got involved with this production.

I kept watching because of the visual effects. Otherwise this movie lacked good story telling.
27 June 2021
If it were not for the visual effects, I would have cut watching this movie short. The story line was strung together with the flimsiest of dialogue. Most of the time it didn't make much sense.

Did very little for me. But that's just me. I don't like the genre.
1 April 2021
I watched this movie on a High Def 55" screen on HBO. Maybe I would have liked this movie a little better if I had seen it on a giant 3D IMAX screen and appreciated it as a visual spectacle. But I doubt if I would liked it enough to justify the cost of a ticket. I'm glad I didn't waste any money seeing it in a movie theater.

I can see how a 13 year old boy would think this film was pretty cool. But I'm 71. I can't imagine that any of my friends my same age would like the movie that much either.

If you liked the Transformer movies, my guess is that you will really like Godzilla vs. Kong. I didn't like the Transformer movies. I'm only good for about 5 minutes of mechanical monster fights. If, like me, you get bored with special effects monster fights that go on and on and on for most of the movie, then I would suggest you skip seeing Godzilla vs. Kong.

FORMULAIC
30 March 2021
To its credit, this series held my attention enough so that I watched it all the way to the last episode. But there was nothing about it that especially intrigued me. Very 2 dimensional and formulaic. It seemed like the storyline targeted an adolescent level of sophistication. I was left feeling like there were better things I could have watched on Netflix.

I doubt if there will be a season 2. It seemed like the last episode of season 1 ended in a way that attempted to give dignity and closure to the storyline. It's as if the series creators wanted to give The Irregulars a respectable final ending knowing full well it wasn't worth a second season.

Bottom line: This series will never be on anyone's list of creative and original film work.

Scale down your expectations and maybe you will like this film.
23 February 2021
In the realm of low budget independent films, this film is a standout and worthy of 10 stars. But in the entire realm, a 7 at best. The film drags at times, but it makes up for it with the intensity it brings by using amateur actors who are largely re-enacting their authentic real life stories. The film isn't a documentary, but it uses a lot of the same elements as a documentary with just the right touch of artistic embellishment and drama. It's hard not to like the lead character, Brady, as he struggles to put his life back together from a near fatal injury. For an amateur actor, Brady Jandreau portrays the life of Brady Blackburn with surprising intensity. Perhaps the director deserves a lot of credit for Brady's performance but I suspect we will see more of Brady Jandreau in other films. I believe his next role is in pre-production as I am writing this review.

Half the movie could have been left on the cutting room floor.
13 January 2021
I have to say I agree with the others who say this movie is too slow paced.

My measure of a good movie is whether I will ever watch it again. There are plenty of movies I still find entertaining even after multiple viewings. This movie isn't one of them. I barely made it through the first viewing.

The set design was awesome. The acting was great. Visually it was an impressive movie. But it all wasn't enough to overcome the slow pace.
