First 4 seasons rate an 8
6 April 2024
The first four seasons were pretty good. Now I find myself in season 12 and finally can't take any more. Somewhere along the way AHS became silly and not scary. Even a novice like me can see how horrible Kim Kardashian's acting is. Over the last few season's the show has become obsessed with prenatal and transgender themes that border on the ridiculous that treat both subjects with the maturity of an eighth grader. I really miss the early seasons when the horror was based on old tried and true themes such as haunted houses, monsters and ghosts. Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian are poor substitutes for actresses like Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange.

So-so ending to a great series
17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This has been a really enjoyable series. Being a big fan of the show, it makes me sad to see the ending episodes filled with such ridiculousness. Detective Provenza going Dirty Harry with his repeated assertions of how Stroh was not going to be taken alive was bad enough but then to have Rusty spring up out of nowhere to shoot Stroh five times took any feel of the scene being anything like a real life situation off the table. Maybe I missed something but how did Provenza explain why he shot Stroh with Rusty's gun and why he had to shoot him five times? For a show that seemed to love detail this was a bit disappointing.

Great. Would have been greater with a story ending.

Warning: Spoilers
Great show. Funny and well made. Great actors. The story is just okay and there are some drawn out scenes that tend to stretch out the episodes and making them too long. Consider me spoiled but I have become accustomed to series that have endings. Cancelling a series after a story build up seems to be a big problem among too many streaming services. We are left at the end of episode ten just hanging. Of course we can always conjure up an ending for ourselves. Even so, Ben Kingsley is fantastic no matter what he's in and I liked the way it went to black and white whenever the story dropped into the past. It's well worth watching but anyone who's contemplating it should be aware that it does leave the story hanging.

I don't understand all the high reviews. For the most part the acting is good and the action scenes are done masterfully. The sex scenes are sometimes ridiculous and it's strange considering the time period that the ladies apparently have shaved legs and armpits. And was the f word really that big a part of the 18th century vocabulary? Notwithstanding those minor flaws, what really is lacking is some actual strong drama and action. There is way too much standing around talking and the story line is sometimes lost in the small talk and constant discussions over everything. This is basically a melodrama about pirates with great scenery.

Badly acted and boring fairy tale

Zachary Quinton played his role of Father Christmas pretty good, even though the part was a bit ridiculous. He couldn't save this turkey though. Most of the rest of the acting was sub par but maybe that was partly because the story was so weak. I actually dreaded scenes with Vic.

This is based on watching the first episode. The costuming and special effects just didn't do it for me. Neither did the acting. Maybe it gets better but this episode turned me off.

This movie itself is the horror

The book sold millions of copies. Readers loved it. Did someone think they could improve on it? I understand why such a large book can't be translated into 9 hours of film without abbreviating the plot and characters but what was done here is ridiculous. The acting was shoddy and except for the music running during the credits it was pretty bad.

Guns, liquor and mediocrity. It started out with a decent story but quickly degenerated into a mess of unbelievable scenes involving an alcoholic, sociopathic family who run about in a world full of inhabitants who act contrary to human nature and seem to want to be murdered.

Watchable but nothing special. Falls way short when compared to the 'Vikings' series. The action is pretty decent but the story just wasn't interesting.

Highly entertaining and it pulls you into the story right till the end. It's a great mini-series that appears to have kept to the real timeline and events of the actual case.

Good story until it wasn't. The first few seasons are fantastic. It's far better to end a good story than to ruin it by trying to stretch it out for a couple of extra seasons.

Not funny, not scary

A terrible story with bad acting. I put it in the category with those cheap shark movies with the bad special effects. Robert Forster had very minimal appearances. I'm guessing they just wanted to be able to use his name in the lineup.

Pretty pretty bad

Warning: Spoilers
I give the makers of this movie a 4 for effort. Can't decide if the writing or the acting was more mediocre. As far the story, what could possibly go wrong? Blind people can get around pretty good but not that good.

Dead show walking
27 April 2022
This show has died and is still walking around. The producers need to show some mercy and put a knife in it's head. The characters and the story have gotten dull and lifeless. It's no longer about zombies. It's more concerned with petty feuds between the characters.

Having never read the book this was just a new sci-fi movie to me. I found the story uninteresting as well as the characters. Few movies are able to convey the spirit of the books they're named after and apparently this movie isn't an exception.

Sons of Anarchy on a ranch
8 April 2022
Nowhere as good as Longmire but watchable. The big problem with it is the lack of likeable characters. Pretty standard fare with the overbearing father, one loved son, one son who screws up constantly and a daughter who conives her way through the disfunctional family. Still it's okay and interesting to a point.

A series of dreams & nightmares
20 March 2022
Dreams make little sense but are often quite amusing and sometimes disturbing. Twin Peaks is a place made of dream stuff. That's why it appears unconnected and nonsensical. Some have said it's about parallel time and universes. It could be. Or the characters may just be jumping from one dream to the next in the mind of the sleeper. Anyhow I found it to be very entertaining and original.

Great western. Great atmosphere
20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Finally a very entertaining western with a good look of realism. The look and feel of the old west was far superior to the plot, which was adquate. Anyone who has been waiting for the next great western to come along should give 'Old Henry' a look.

Not as good as former Madea movies. It just wasn't as fun and a too preachy. The worst thing was that several of the performers seemed to have missed too many acting classes.

Disappointing
6 September 2021
Average acting and average writing makes for an average series. The worse part is having a lead character who is at best irritating and who seems to be most adept at making odd facial expressions and staring off into space. For those like me who like realistic crime dramas it's a big letdown.
