The Gringo Papi (2022)
Who gave the Green-Go for this?
Schaub bumbles through his cringeworthy special The Gringo Papi, displaying a complete absence of comedic timing, delivery, or originality. His stale observational humor and tired ethnic stereotypes elicit more awkward silence than laughter from the audience.
The majority of Schaub's jokes are derivative, hacky, and painfully unfunny, relying on lame physical humor and exaggerated accents rather than displaying any actual wit. His clumsy attempts at crowd work and stilted delivery make it abundantly clear that he lacks even basic skills as a stand-up comedian.
Furthermore, Schaub leans heavily on embarrassing personal anecdotes and inside jokes likely only comprehensible to fellow talentless meatheads from his MMA days. Overall, The Gringo Papi serves as a masterclass in how NOT to perform stand-up comedy. Do yourself a favor and skip this vapid, derivative drivel from an undeserving nepotism case who lacks even a shred of comedic talent. Watching This Special is Like Getting Waterboarded by Unfunny.
Catherine Cohen: The Twist...? She's Gorgeous (2022)
Glaring nepotism
Utterly devoid of comedic timing or original material, Catherine Cohen's comedy special 'The Twist...? She's Gorgeous' is an insult to the artform and a colossal waste of an hour.
Leaning heavily on tired tropes and flimsy observational humor, Cohen demonstrates a complete lack of skill or stage presence. Her delivery is flat and affectless, her material recycled drivel. The only possible explanation for how someone so bereft of comedic chops managed to land a Netflix special is blatant nepotism and box-checking, as Cohen brings nothing compelling or unique to the table. Do yourself a favor - skip this vapid, derivative drivel and find a real comedian to spend your time on. The only twist here is how Cohen managed to fail upwards into undeserved success despite her glaring lack of talent.
Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018)
One day we will be gone, and that's a good thing
Seeing what we have done to the earth makes me want humans gone from this planet. We have done enough damage. Time to end the human race experiment through any means. Launch the nukes!
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Script feels like it's written by a 9 year old.
I know they're going for a super young audience (why even include flash backs to episodes from almost 20 years ago then? Just make a new show.) It really shows the short sightedness of hollywood to feature an older star, base it on old events, and then completely ignore the fact that a more mature audience will be the ones watching this primarily. I really can't get through another episode after wasting my time with 3.
What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
One of the best shows out there
It's rare to see a show that captures a particular feeling like WWDITS does. It's a genius blend of dark comedy and satire that's shot in documentary form. The characters are unique and interesting, each bringing their own element to the story. Each time I learn something new about the characters I'm always left wanting more - my only gripe is that the format is fairly short, but that's to be expected with a comedy. Colin Robinson will leave you wondering if any of the people you actually know might be real energy vampires. The performances are perfect from the entire cast without going over the top, especially Lazlo.
