The Hays Code ruined Hollywood!
28 October 2023
Hard to believe, perhaps, but this film was denounced as immoral from more pulpits than any other film produced prior to the imposition of the bluenose Hayes Code. Yes indeed, priests actually told their flocks that anyone who went to see this film was thereby committing a mortal sin.

I'm not making this up. They had several reasons, as follows:

Item: Jane likes sex. She and Tarzan are shown waking up one morning in their treetop shelter. She stretches sensuously, and with a coquettish look she says "Tarzan, you've been a bad boy!" So they've not only been having sex, they've been having kinky sex! A few years later, under the Hays Code, people (especially women) weren't supposed to be depicted as enjoying sex.

Item: Jane prefers a guileless, if wise and resourceful, savage (Tarzan) to a civilized, respectable nine-to-five man (Holt). When Holt at first wows her with a pretty dress from London, she wavers a bit; when Holt tries to kill Tarzan, and Holt and Jane both believe he's dead, she wavers a lot. But when she realizes her man is very much alive, the attractions of civilization vanish for her. And why not? Tarzan's and Jane's relationship is egalitarian: He lacks the "civilized" insecurity that would compel him to assert himself as "the head of his wife". To boot, he lacks many more "civilized" hangups, for example jealousy. When Holt and his buddy arrive, Tarzan greets them both cordially, knowing perfectly well that Holt is Jane's old flame. When Holt gets her dolled up in a London dress and is slow-dancing with her to a portable phonograph, Tarzan drops out of a tree, and draws his knife. Jealous? Nope. He's merely cautious toward the weird music machine, since he's never seen one before. Once it's explained, he's cool.

Item: Civilized Holt is dirty minded. Savage Tarzan is innocently sexy. As Jane slips into Holt's lamplit tent, Holt gets off on watching her silhouette as she changes into the fancy dress. By contrast, after Tarzan playfully pulls the dress off, kicks her into the swimming hole and dives in after her, there follows the most tastefully erotic nude scene in all cinema: the pair spends five minutes in a lovely water ballet.(The scene was filmed in three versions--clothed, topless and nude--the scene was cut prior to the film's release, but the nude version is restored in the video now available.) And when Jane emerges, and Cheetah the chimp steals her dress just for a tease, Jane makes it clear that her irritation is only because of the proximity of "civilized" men and their hangups. Where is the "universal prurience" so dear to the hearts of seminarians? Nowhere, that's where. Another reason why the hung up regarded this film as sinful.

Item: The notion that man is the crown of creation, and animals are here only for man's use and comfort, takes a severe beating. Holt and his buddy want to be guided to the "elephant graveyard" so they can scoop up the ivory and take it home. They want Tarzan to guide them to said graveyard. You, reader, are thinking "Fat chance!" and you're right. He's shocked. He exclaims "Elephants sleep!" which to him explains everything. Jane explains Tarzan's feelings, which the two "gentlemen" find ridiculous.

Item: Jane, the ex-civilized woman, is far more resourceful than the two civilized men she accompanies. Holt and buddy blow it, and find themselves besieged by hostile tribes and wild animals. It is Jane who maintains her cool. While the boys panic, she takes charge, barks orders at them and passes out the rifles.

Item: Jane's costume is a sort of poncho with nothing underneath. (The original idea was for her to be topless, with foliage artistically blocking off her nipples, which indeed is the case in one brief scene.)

Lastly, several men of the cloth complained because the film was called "Tarzan and His Mate" rather than "Tarzan and His Wife." No comment!

Of course, Tarzan, who has been nursed back to health by his ape friends, comes to the rescue, routs the white hunters, and induces the pack elephants and African bearers to return the ivory they stole to the sacred place whence it came. The End.

So there you have it. An utterly subversive film. Like all the other films about complex and interesting women (see, e.g., Possessed with Rita Hayworth and Raymond Massey) which constituted such a flowing genre in the early 30's and which were brought to such an abrupt end by the adoption of the Hays Code.

The joie de vivre of this film is best expressed by Jane's soprano version of the famous Tarzan yell. A nice touch, which was unfortunately abandoned in future productions.

Let's hear it for artistic freedom, feminist Jane, and sex.

TAY-TAY!
17 October 2023
Just Got out Of The Eras Tour Dolby Cinema, I'm Going to See this Again in IMAX next Weekend.

Taylor Swift is such an Efficient and Unique Performer and her Songwriting is at times Remarkable (Yes, I know she has Co-writers for Many of her Songs). 🎤

Taylor Swift -

1. She's Gorgeous to look at.

2. She was Performing so well in the Routines and Singing.

3. Her Speeches in Between every other Couple of Segments added even more to the Show.

4. I loved/liked Her different Costumes, the different Stage Layouts and Lighting, back up dancers and the band.

But here's what in my opinion, really makes Taylor Swift a Very Unique Performer -

5. She has a know-how, she has a Brightness or Likeability to her Facial Expressions, also her Physiognomy coupled with her own added personal Face Mannerisms and Look Mannerisms adds more to her. She also has this certain type of Elegance about her that adds to her Singular Ability to pull off what she does and how she does it. She's a Superstar.

There's a few moments when the crowd was just applauding and cheering for Taylor and it was Roaring in Dolby Cinema.

It was Such an Outstanding Performance

Bonus - She has Great Face Symmetry both when Frowning and Smiling 👌

Segments -

Lover - Excellent introduction to the Show 👌💖. "The Man" Song and Stage Layout was so Good to Watch. WHAT A PERFORMANCE!

Fearless - Solid Segment to Keep the Ball Rolling. I loved the Gold Screen Background Too. 🌟

Evermore - 🌲🍾 I loved the Screen Layout during this Segment, as well as the Songs. Also the Orange Glowing Balls Routine was great to Watch 🍊

Reputation - Great Segment and the Snake Visual was Great 🖤. Also, the people in the Boxes Set Piece was so good to watch. And "Delicate" is a damn good song.

Speak Now - Great Segment 💜

Red - Super Entertaining Segment with Beautiful Red Layout 💋

1989 - Category F5 Tornado Energy. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE! 💎

Folklore - I Loved this Segment, gave such a different Vibe (Mainly Because of Betty) During the Show 🎸

Acoustics - Such a Relaxing Segment 🎹

Midnights - What a Vibe! Man, Taylor really knows how to Constantly Reinvent Herself. Category F5 Magnificent Sounds in Some of the Songs in the Midnights Segment. 🌃🌌

Overall, What a Show and What a Performance!

What's that Mother?
29 September 2023
All the sketches in this old episode of the show are so incredibly funny, but the one with Bill Hader goes full ''Anthony Perkins'' while imitates Shepard Smith was truly the ''sugar'' of the night hihiihi also it's so weirdly sexy. Hader is doing a man on his game of imitating people that are famous or not, but in this case it's have won all the awards, even the Oscar!.

His interactions with Mother are truly the top of the sketch and also i loved the fact that they reproduce the full killing body of her at the end of the film.... What's that mother? Yes i wrote the review, im such a good boy i have already tell you that. Don't give me that look, mother.

Anyway, i gotta to go, because i gotta wash my toothbrush before mother give me a kiss for nightime. See you in my nightmares!

Amazon forever!
30 August 2023
Wow! Amazing first three episodes. For all the women in the world who ever felt smaller than they should have, been told to calm down and be quiet....not any more! Great show with a very cool premise.

Written well and enjoyable NOT just for teenage girls. The first episodes gave me a feeling of confidence! What if women and girls in the world could develop powers to counteract our changing world? We take the power back in our own hands.

This series gives all young women a chance to imagine the world just a little but more in our favour. Can't wait to keep watching!

Amazon forever and ever!!

shay mitchell always a star
10 August 2023
Blumhouse productions are known for making really good horror films, so far this film is their best one yet.

The usage of the Equilibrium theory in this film is well shown without having to drag it on. The 2nd scene of the film is when Megan Reed (shay Mitchell's character) starts the job at a morgue everything looks normal until a strange man appears in front of the gate that leads inside the building where shay is at. It all goes downhill when the man who was outside the building sneaks inside the morgue to go and burn his daughters possessed body but instead he gets attacked by shay which then leads to him being dragged by the security guards that she has called, Hannah's dad shouts at Megan "you must burn the body or else it won't stop"

After that incident in the film the possessed Hannah grace starts to cause chaos around the morgue such as what you would normally see in a horror film for example strange sounds, things moving, the bang noises in the body fridges. After those things happen she's sees Hannah roaming around the morgue murdering those around her also known as the (disruption) The next thing is the recognition in the equilibrium theory where shay is fully aware of what's going on so she goes and stops Hannah in this film. The suspense in this scene of the film which I just mentioned we see shay trying to kill Hannah which she successfully does before she leaves her boyfriend in the lift to call for help. (this is the next stage an attempt to repair damage ) Last stage is Equilibrium has now been resorted back to normal when shay finally kills Hannah with the iconic scene in the crematorium room where Hannah gets burned ( killed ) and her life goes back to normal.

I AM WHAT I AM
8 August 2023
So I totally don't get the bad reviews at all. It's a drama that explores human nature, identity, and culture. Not a mindbending plot, but fresh perspectives that are timely and very much needed to demonstrate the range of American life today.

This show moves us well past Ugly Betty's America Ferrera and a second generation Latina making it in the world of NYC's fashion journalism scene. This also moves us past Modern Family's Sofia Vergara and the quintessential American blended family...

On the one hand, this show fully explores intersectionality. Every protagonist is a female, and a second and third generation Latina in Los Angeles. The show also engages with class, immigration woes, and gentrification by female protagonists in a way I haven't seen before. The show also explores sexuality from the female gaze. The characters shatter the stereotypes about what it means to be Latino/a in the US today.

On the one hand, this is totally an anti-Girls/post-SATC show. And at the same time, this is exactly the sort of thing that demonstrates the multitude of structural realities present in American life that Ta-Nehisi Coates critiques in "Between the World and Me".

Identity is complicated, and reconciling multiple cultural pasts and presents is an ongoing process! The women of Vida are bad ass and finding their own way.

Freud (2020)

Sigmund Holmes? why the hell not!
30 July 2023
This is Phenomenal. I saw the whole series. You are not going to be disappointed. The Synopsis written is wrong. No they do not hunt a serial killer. It goes beyond finding the perpretator of the crime. Freud's task here always has been; not Who, but Why. You will also find how psychology has been used by others into formulating political revolutions before the time of Freud. The wisdom of psychology is not something new, it has been here since the first men. But, the method has been clearly documented and understood by Freud through not only his introspections, but life experiences. The show is accurate to its essence: how our boy Freud found his calling, and how he step by step formulates his understanding of the complexity of human mind.

Each episode focuses on one specific pshyche issue: Hysteria, Trauma, Somnambulism, totem and taboo, desire, regression, catharsis, suppression . I missed the Ego and ID part in this series, no focus was given there- but a major component in Freud's analysis of human psyche. But definitely looking forward to series 2. Netflix synopsis gives people a wrong impression, this is not about a serial killer, rather different murders, done by different people, under hypnosis for a certain political agenda- the experience of untangling the events gave Freud the core understanding of Psychoanalysis.

Give Greta more than Nolan everyday
21 July 2023
There is first in every thing.

And there's the first on a new thing.

Greta Gerwig has never disappointed me. Even when she was at her point with the mumblecore genre. Now she bring her class and weirdness to a new top level.

With Barbie Greta make the viewers never distracted but confused, in such a glam and fun colorful wave.

Greta has done perfectly the accuracy and portrayal of certain dolls and places in Barbie's fabulous and magic world. Additionally, the pacing and storytelling choices feeling that it may bring directly in your cinemas the wonderful, fun, witty and very magic world that is the one of Barbie.

Warning: Spoilers
Girl...the twists were twisting and i was twisted!

But how did she get julia and seb back to their apartment after blinding them? And how are they dressing and bathing and feeding themselves? Are they just going to accept their fate and not contact the police? They've become wildly successful from this exhibition so wouldn't some journalist look into how the artists behind "the voyeurs" became blind suddenly and simultaneously?

I mean i think there was no way for them to explain these things so they just...ended the movie instead lol

Last time I saw an Erotic Thriller this good was 1990s or early 2000s

It's one genre that is forgotten and lately you could not find a good erotic thriller except in European or maybe Korean cinema.

This movie makes you remember how good and refreshing this genre could be, and why there should be more erotic thriller movies made.

It has Good Directing, Attractive cast, Beautiful imagery and Unexpected story with Plot twists.

Did Pozzetto prelude Cronenberg?
16 May 2023
Italian comedy anthology with three parts showcasing the talents of Banfi, Franco & Pozzetto.

Banfi plays an everyman mistaken for a notorious criminal. The sublime Edwige plays a journalist who rescues him from the police and takes him to her house for an exclusive interview and more.

Franco plays a large nosed man who puts on a dress and gets a job as a housemaid only for his mistress to fall for him.

Lastly, Pozzetto plays a taxi driver who loves his cab a little bit too much.

Where do I begin this came on the TV during my vacation to Italy and while I only saw one of the three shorts the movie contains I found it nail biting and thrilling it's the Italian Ms Doubtfire where a man learns the struggle of the common Italian woman in a avant garde court drama with a star studded cast the film did not disappoint props to the cast director and sound guys all love to the crew I can only begin to imagine how the set was when the film came across as a well composed orchestra in the French Riviera - Chester Cheetah - 2022 Glowing Film logs.

SONIA BRAGA!
8 May 2023
Aquarius is a movie that tries to catch the audience by showing our almost forgotten resilience, commitment to individual values and beliefs. The main plot is a story about a wealthy lady facing a frequent and "polite" invitation to sell her apartment for a greedy and ruthless real state company who wants to put down her old building. Meanwhile, she not only tries to keep her place, but to buy other units.

Movie's director, Kleber Mendonça, is a very skilled storyteller when it comes to expose the most bitter side of Brazilian's contradictory elite society. I've watched all his movies and shorts and I must tell, they are not comfortable. Yet they disclose things that either we don't talk about or we don't clearly see. It's a mind blowing criticism over our cultural trends and social costumes.

As for the main actress, Sonia Braga is one of the most iconic actresses in Brazil. She moved to US to live a relationship with Robert Redford, another great actor and director. As years passed by, she did connected with America's movie industry, though she never left her carrier in Brazil entirely.

In 2013 Kleber wrote a script that according to Sonia, while reading it, was a "present" from its author. So he invited her and she promptly replied. The result is this movie where, as The Telegraph correctly said, "will make you want to move to Brazil".

EAT YOUR HEART OUT HATERS!
6 May 2023
Just finished the first two episodes, and WOW, what a ride!!! These performers BLEW it away.

The shows leads are absolute vocal powerhouses. The choreography and direction are reminiscent of LaLa Land, with long takes that are mind boggling. The actor who plays Cynthia is riveting. She dances like a marionette that controls her own strings. Perfection.

I also LOVE the empowering themes in the face of the de-powering misogyny and overt racism of McCarthy and Eisenhower's 1950s. The "Pink Ladies" embody the battle for social justice and equity, wrapped in a powerful soundtrack that had me dancing along, waving my arms, and saying, "Yes!!!"

I can't wait for the next episodes. In the memeantime, I might just buy a pink jacket...

Sport is the Remedy Against All Wars
4 May 2023
What a nice surprise! The history of the creation of the World Cup from the inside with a great cast. I thought I knew football but I learned many things. Some anecdotes are quite incredible and the reconstruction of Maracana is incredible. The film itself is a victory since the story of the Fifa is told over 100 years and managed to explain the takeover of Sep Blatter in way of a mafia movie. The first part of the film, very naive, profits the performance of Gerard Depardieu. He reminds us that it can embody characters with strength when he wants. The rest of the film is carried by the duo Tim Roth / Sam Neil who are always so good. It's very classic but such a good movie. Must see !

HOT
16 March 2023
This nearly two hour film has everything, it's funky, it's action- packed, it feels like a fresh take on The Godfather from a feminine perspective. If it had more traveling shots, smoother and sharper cinematography, more fiction and less time spent on realism and facts, I'd give it 9/10 stars. It's a bit hard to describe, it goes many places and includes a lot of ideas, a bit like society today. It's the Human Zoo. Probably inspired by Quentin Tarantino, Luc Besson and many others. Get into this movie with a open mind, and you will experience Rie Rasmussen's artistic vision, her enthusiasm, her poetry, her timing, her style.

I am definitely looking forward to Rie Rasmussen's next film projects!

Thanks to the open minds and free thinkers like the Marstons, that were not afraid to speak the truth and not be warped by convention, the masses are just beginning to see each other and the world the way it's meant to be seen. But there's a long way to go. Cheers to the movie, both the true and the dramatic parts of it! We need more movies like this to put seeds of free thinking in young minds and to help stop conservative repressed thought from dictating to society.

This movie is awesome. 10 stars to Combat ignorant 1 star pursed lipped comic book burning morons.

3 February 2023
This is a silly little cartoon short featuring Mickey, Donald and Goofy as a ghost hunting team, who got called up by four bored ghosts in a haunted house. They have scared everyone away and decide to have some fun freaking out Mickey, Donald and Goofy.

It's a unique short that does not follow the more conventional plot line. You have some frightful fun mixed in with some classic Disney magic - all resulting in a pretty entertaining story. It's fun for adults and kids, and might even scare away some little ones during a fright night. Also, the animation is pretty good in this one and the characters are colorful Great for laughs.

I loved the show. U will learn something and think about yourself and relationships.

What mostly impressed me were the people who in all honesty showed their most intimate feelings, fears, desires, frustrations... for anyone to see, very brave.

It's nice to see honest happiness on someones face.

Joy brings joy.

All respect to the participants.

What a stunning, sharp, modern, provocative, brilliantly acted, excellently shot, suspenseful, dark, excruciatingly honest and extremely beautiful to watch timeless masterpiece!

A great movie that gradually piles up the suspense and the psychological relationships between the characters and elevates the whole story way beyond the boundaries of a simple set of events.

There's drama, action, suspense, sex, and full nudity. All in a perfect movie surprise. He will make you laugh, cry and see sometimes you have never know about the world.

Too much hate towards this film, I loved it. The message is beautiful and worth every minute of the movie. I can't help but think that the negative reviews are mostly from those people who say that females have to stay home and cook while running their movies. This is a movie that helps little girls know that all women are powerful and strong and being a minority won't determine how far you go unless you let them. A MUST VIEW!

8 December 2022
Luminous, sexy, audacious!! Emma Corrin and Jack O'Connell are sumptuous. They capture all the passion and are thrilling to watch. So intoxicating a watch. I have never read the novel but will definitely seek out more D H Lawrence. There was nothing that made me think tawdry. It made me think the anger and outrage of its day was mainly that a woman empowered her sexuality and chose the man she loved and did not conform to the society role made for her. Rebellion and audacity... very sexy indeed. The stately home was gorgeous as well as the Welsh countryside. Well done, Netflix! More please of this calibre.

HAIL SATAN!
7 December 2022
Are you interested in learning more about Satanism? Want to get an overall view of the religion and it's origins? This is the perfect movie to wet your appetite on your knowledge seeking journey into Satanism.

You will find in "Hail Satan?", that it is a great primer explanation of Satanism. The director does a great job in communicating an over all view of this complex subject. You can tell that the author takes great care in sharing accurate information, but with a succinct, easy to understand, delivery. There are many flavors of modern Satanism (i.e., Church of Satan, The Satanic Temple) and this book does a fantastic job of illustrating the origins of Satanism and the differences between the organizations. Satanism is a challenging subject to tackle since every Satanist identifies differently with their own practice. I commend the author for being respectful of that fact, while focusing on origin subjects of Satanism as a religion with many facets of organization and individual participation in various cultures. You will also find that this book does not shy away from mentioning the dark times of the Satanic Panic and how we are still seeing the remnants of the panic today in various forms.

This movie is an introduction. It is right in the name. It is no way a fully completed tome with every single last detail spelled out, but you will get the gist. The author gives you enough background information for you to understand the flow of how things came to be in our Satanic history and culture. It is up to the reader to fully dive into their own Satanic study, if they so choose to want more. Which this book offers a selected bibliography and timeline to help set you on the left handed path.

As a nontheistic Satanist Satanic Temple member and Satanic Scholar, I recommend this movie to those who would like to learn more about Satanism in a quick read. "Hail Satan?" is an easy watch with accurate information that is sure to kickstart your quest for more knowledge of your own practice of Satanism. Or, to just quell fears so others can understand what Satanism truly is. Also, you can tell that to the author this was a labor of love and respect for all Satanists. Hail Satan! Hail this movie! And Hail Lucien Graves!

A Diva's Film
6 December 2022
Absolutely outstanding - a pretty "masculine" type of film made entirely by women, actresses taken from the underbelly which is the porn industry, crashing straight through the glass ceiling that normally separates the two and SHINING...... extremely convincing but subtle acting, no artificial lighting whatsoever and yet everything looks perfect. Great action, pace, story - just a brilliant film. Of course inevitably certain sections of the general uneducated public aren't going to understand something like this but who really cares about their views? Anyone with any sense can see that this is a towering achievement of pro-involvement cinema. Just a damned shame that people didn't throw a lot more work in the direction of the actress who later killed herself.

Absolutely stunning stuff all round.

"Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives... I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it. Suppose any party, in addition to whatever share it may possess of the ability of the community, has nearly the whole of its stupidity, that party must, by the law of its constitution, be the stupidest party; and I do not see why honorable gentlemen should see that position as at all offensive to them, for it ensures their being always an extremely powerful party . . . There is so much dense, solid force in sheer stupidity, that any body of able men with that force pressing behind them may ensure victory in many a struggle, and many a victory the Conservative party has gained through that power." John Stuart Mill ( British philosopher, economist, and liberal member of Parliament for Westminster from 1865 to 68 )"

One small sign of peace between Russia and US before the Cold War tensions
2 December 2022
This film immerses us into a fairytale atmosphere. As for me, I watch it many times, by the way, both in Russian and in English. It's too pleasantly to realize that Soviet Union and US joined together: legendary Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Jane Fonda and outstanding soviet actors Georgiy Vitsin, Margarita Terekhova, Oleg Popov. I was a little child when I found this masterpiece...Even then it left an imprint in my heart, and I'll always remember it with great pleasure and kindness! And know I can recommend u to watch this film and enjoy the playing of the best actors of 20th century. Don't miss this fairytale!

sexual freedom y'all!
30 November 2022
As a teenager, there are many depictions of teenage sexuality that I find have followed their own successful formula for so long that they fail to depict modern adolescent sexuality accurately. Bang Gang is indeed, as it is billed as, a "modern love story". In particular, the impact of social media on the psyches and voyeuristic attitudes of my generation are perfectly encompassed. Within director Eva Husson's spectacle, there are familiar themes: the need to be wanted, to be set apart from the herd, the loneliness that comes with attaining your fantasies and finding that they are not enough (read: the scene in which Alex, high on vice, stumbles completely naked out to the pool-where teenagers are copulating and filming it all on camera for online distribution-and plunges in, attempting to shut everything out). As a teenager, there was always a certain orgiastic essence to house parties, people sneaking off to bathrooms and guest bedrooms to hook up, spin the bottle and escalating dares, so that the possibilities of such an event happening, as it did in real life, do not seem far-fetched. The imagery and cinematography of the movie is spectacular. The control of light and palette is exquisite, so that a normally vulgar tableau-consider Harmony Korine's "Kids", all grit and no softness-is rendered soft and ambient. There are some shots that could come straight out of a pre-Raphaelite painting. And maybe that's what's so beautiful about this movie; youth isn't some dispensable, ephemeral quantity of life, regardless of its course, youth does guide our lives, and teaches us that to be happy, you have to risk being hurt.
