(D)evil's Throat: Djavolskoto Garlo (2019)
Surprisingly good
I did not pay much atrention to this when it came out. As a bulgarian myself, I know that most bulgarian productions are... mediocre at best. But not this. I was amazed. Now, is it perfect? Of course not! Some of the suspects resist answering very simple questions for no other reason than to add to the mistery of the show, but it has the effect of driving the viewer mad. Also, the daughter.... unnecessary bratty. Also did they borrow inspiration from True detective here? Yes, heavily. However... it is its own thing with decent acting, very good mystery and just the perfect amount of a complicated, interesting story. It gripped me from the beginning and never let go. The scenery... well, as someone who has actually been to most of the locations in real life... yes, it really is that beautiful. The Rhodopi mountain was the uncredited character here and it gave soul, beauty and mystery to the story. To hear the same legends about the cave i have heard from a guide, in a tv series was actually pleasant. The show grabbed my attention, managed to make me feel for the characters, be invested in the story and actually managed to surprise me! If that doesn't qualify it as great, I dont know what does.

I am entertained
I like the idea of the show and to a large extent, the execution. The strongest asset of it are the actors. Especially the two pillars holding it togheter - Baba Voss and Sybeth. Jason Momoa steals every scene and just manages to exude strenght and energy with every second on screen.
The queen gets a lot of hate here, mainly for her annoying voice. Is her voice annoying? Yes, it is. But i see this as intentional and brilliand addition to her character. Its a world where people dont see. So a characters voice is important. Hers is perfectly suited for her character. But there is another reason she shines - the way she is written, she is one of the best villains in tv, ever. She is so smart, with every move she makes she achieves several of her goals at once and manages to undermine all her enemies. The actress was given a tough role and she nails it.
The story has problems. Stupid decisions are made by some of the characters all the time.
The world building is also more than a bit confusing and feels empty.
Other than that the show is interesting and entertaining for me.
Good job by the creators and cast.

Season 4 was almoat a decent comeback
First of, season 1 was absolute masterpiece. The idea, the acting, the action, the twists... superb. However, seasons 2 and 3 were veeery bad. The further the story went from the park, the worse it got. Complicated, for the sake of being complicated. Disappointing.
And then season 4 came along. I didn't even know it is out - i tried to erase the show from my mind. Someone told me it has that "first season magic" again, so of course, i had to see it. All of it.
And did it have the season 1 magic? No. It did not. Was it a good season? Oh yes it was! I was hooked, entertained, surprised once again from this show, for the first time in years. Episodes 1-4 are great, episode 5 is a little slow, episode 6 is great and it goes downhill from there, unfortunately. I guess if it doesn't get renewed for another season this is a decent ending, atleast.
I understand the powerful message the writers are trying to convey here, why can't they understand what we, as viewers, want?
