Have to watch in the proposed order
13 May 2023
Would have given it a 10 but for one aspect of the storyline, which I won't get into so as not to spoil.

The acting is superb, the action pieces too.

Not 100% true that you can watch the episodes in any order. Nevertheless, if you do endeavor to mix up the order, make sure you do at least watch the final episode (per Netflix's order) last. Although the given final episode doesn't represent the end of the story chronologically, it does unfold the elemental missing piece of the puzzle and would be a major spoiler if watched before any of the others.

Esposito, Sewell, Courtney, Kendall, Weiler and Vega do a very good job (especially the first three). The rest, bang average.

Director does a great job too.

Sundown (I) (2021)

Very good, interesting and original
4 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Loved every moment of it. The first 20 mins when it seemed he was an utter a..hole, included.

A slow burner where you never know what is going to happen next nor where the story is aiming at, but that was just the beauty of it.

The only part I didn't get is why those hoodlooms fired at his sis and lawyer.

Btw, nice perspective to a different Acapulco that has indeed and unfortunately become a very dangerous place, as Mexico in general.

The reviews reflect this is not for everyone. Sundown is no exception, it will not fulfill the desires of those longing superficial action packed movies, but if you also are into a serious and original storyline with good direction and acting, you will like it.

Michel Franco does an excellent job and Tim Roth brilliant yet again.

Extraordinary
8 January 2023
This is a Masterpiece. Anyone who knows the region and its history will appreciated it. And those who don't and want to know what happened there are taken back in time through a Zoom Tube right into the field.

Extraordinary screenplay, direction, filming and acting. You see it exactly the way it is. How Angelina Jolie pulled this is beyond me. I'll be watching out for her movies from now on.

I understand the negative reviews because, as with most things in life, we cannot all agree to everything nor share the same tastes (nor have the same culture or education). If you ONLY enjoy Rambo type action packed movies (and I loved it), then this one will obviously fall short of the pace and lack of realism you require in a movie.

Serious and Entertaining.
22 December 2022
Impossible to live up to the book, as for any movie, but it does a great job in portraying it in just over 2 hours.

Serious piece of work and very entertaining at the same time. If you are into medieval and detective mysteries, you will enjoy this.

The setting, directing and acting is superb. Sean Connery, a very young Christian Slater, Michael Lonsdale and F. Murray Abraham are simply perfect in their roles. However, I want to single out the outstanding interpretation of the role by Ron Perlman. He is sublime. Always liked him but it took me this 4th watch of the Name of the Rose at a more mature age to realize he is a genius.

Lovely movie. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Masterpiece
24 September 2022
Wow, just wow. So good, I don't know where to begin. The script, the direction or the acting.

Very original script, combining fantasy with true down to earth reality. Sorry, not good with names but whoever wrote this, aside a great sense for a well told round story, is blessed with the gift of an outstanding creativity as well as a wise and deep knowledge of human nature.

This story with science fiction fantasy in the background is about love, family, grief, friendship, trust, and discerning between good and bad. It has it all.

The direction and acting are perfect. We are not going to discover Sissy Spacek, but this is an incredible performance, to me her best. And hats off to J. K. Simmons. The rest of the key actors deliver such a credible performance.

Could fall into a slow burner category for some, but the pace is simply perfect.

This is certainly one of the best works this year, and certainly the one that touched me most.

Lastly, simply to comment that APV surely has its reasons for cancelling a second season. But if it's due to no other reason than ROI, it would be an indication that we are doomed and in the hands of mass spectators who prefer to watch real trash. But it's what it is I guess, numbers count.

Very Good Movie
11 July 2022
I'll just say this is a very good and serious movie. If you are into medieval, you may find it amongst the very best. Great cast, very well scripted, filmed and directed. It is based on Henry V's rise to the throne and the events that lead to the legendary battle of Agincourt. However, if 100% historic accuracy is the key fundamental aspect for you, might as well skip it.

Loved it
10 May 2022
Great drama set in medieval Barcelona. Wonderful script depicting between right and wrong, injustice, love and pain. Nicely acted too. If you liked this one, I would watch its 2022 sequel Los Herederos de la Tierra.

Beautiful
10 May 2022
Very good drama, depicted in the context of medieval Spain/Catalonia, reflecting its Moorish and Jewish legacy and the beginnings of the Inquisition. Won't win an Oscar but highly enjoyable drama. Btw, it's a sequel to the prior series La Catedral Del Mar, so if you're into this kind of genre I'd watch that one first. Both are very good yet different.

Sarcasm and Humor at its best
28 December 2021
Excellent, easy yet deep story that portrays a relevant perspective of our society today.

I see many comments regarding the irresponsibility if our politicians in our current times, which I agree with btw, but let us not forget that such politicians are there because we put them there in first place, which reflects where our priorities lie.

Great movie, showing how it is plain a simple, dealing with such a serious matter, in a context of a dramatic event yet managing to laugh me off my couch.

Watch it with subtitles
11 March 2021
My advice....even if you turn up the volume, watch with subtitles (literally difficult to understand/hear the (great) dialogue).

A very good movie....original plot with lots of imagination. If you are one of those persons (like me) that will want to make scientific sense of it, even open to a theoretically unproven perspective, forget it, just enjoy it as an adventure action movie with a wild imagination of things that one day might (or not) be substantiated physically or scientifically...

In the top 10 best movies ever made
28 January 2021
A masterpiece....difficult to improve on A New Hope yet it does....very rarely watch a movie more than once...,,amongst those exceptions are Lawrence of Arabia, Blade Runner and a New Hope (around 5 times each).....and then, The Empire Strikes Back, 21 times.

Very very good

Very good and entertaining crime and legal drama, involving high society kids and a school shooting.....acting at its best....this young actress, Hanna Ardehn, is simply amazing: what personality, strength and depth....she will go very far.

May not be Star Trek but I like it
27 December 2020
I liked it but this is not why I came in to comment..,,it perplexes me that this series' rating has defied the laws of maths ....90% of the reviewers give it a 1, 2 or 3 ...so how come it gets an average rating of 7.4?

Was going to give it a 9 but the last Episode....
25 December 2020
Great story, great acting, but the ending could only be explained if there was a Season 2...(or if they ran out of cash within Season 1)....a shame because as it stands, it is unfinished....hence a generous rating of 6 and only because of the excellent 7 episodes prior the the last one's fiasco.

Very good except for one script mistake
2 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Very good movie with an excellent script and great acting....tense and enjoyable....shame about how carelessly the the grocery store woman part at the end was handled as it's central to the outcome....would have given it a 9 otherwise.

This movie is good
27 July 2020
I don't understand the bad ratings. Ok it's not a 10 but an enjoyable movie with Waltz at his best. 1st half of the movie is brilliant. The second half, especially towards the ending, lacks a bit which is why I only give it a 7.
