Deadloch (2023)
Hilarious, Fresh and Original
Written by two of the funniest women on earth, Deadloch is laugh out loud hilarious. It's a solid murder mystery with priceless comedic dialogue, fantastic acting, directing, music and sets. The choir sings a couple of famous songs better than the original artists and it's not often we get to see Tasmania.
The obnoxious, crude detective Eddie, played by Madeleine Sami, is one of the most original characters ever seen on screen. Sami's delivery of some of the most outrageous lines ever written and her physical performance in scenes is nothing short of genius. She's an absolute gem and a scene stealer.
I don't know why this series didn't receive10 stars from all the reviewers. This is truly original and unique. It deserves to be on a list of the Top TV shows of all time.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
So Awful I Couldn't Finish it
I'm a huge fan of the Hunger Games franchise. All the previous films are well-directed, well-acted, awesome casting with amazing sets and costumes.
But I couldn't finish this watching this trash film. I don't know how this can be the Hunger Games. The story was disjointed, seemed rushed and was confusing at times. The film makers assumed we all read the books so no need to develop the story. I never read them.
Casting was horrendous. Rachel Zegler is just awful. A cardboard cut-out moved around by someone hiding behind it would have been more compelling and interesting. The forgettable actor playing Snow wasn't much better.
Except for the actress who played Dr Gaul, the entire cast was forgettable. Hers was a stand out performance. She almost saved the film.
What Is a Woman? (2022)
Difficult Subject Handled Beautifully
This is a work of pure genius. Matt let the progressive woke "experts" speak their mind so the audience could clearly see just how absurd their ideas about gender are. All he did was ask one simple question.
The Andromeda Strain (1971)
Absolute Garbage
This film is an example of what not to do in filmmaking. It has a disjointed plot that is full of holes and contains real animal abuse.
It starts with a phone call of a soldier screaming about being attacked by some "white thing", but then this alien being somehow switches to a mysterious infection without a word of explanation. There's more plot ridiculousness, like the way they wear Hazmat suits when dealing with the infected, except when they don't. There's too many flaws to mention.
There's animal abuse. The director subjected monkeys and rats to CO2 poisoning until they seized and collapsed. The monkey was supposedly revived. It's sick to torture animals for a film.
I don't know how anyone can give this "film" a good rating. It isn't worth watching.
Covidland (2021)
Revealing Expose on the Corona Pandemic
This is an excellent, well-researched documentary and the first of a series on the pandemic. This one focuses on the beginning of the pandemic, explains how untrustworthy the PCR tests are, how covid deaths were exaggerated, how much hospitals profited from declaring patients to have covid and the terrible impact of the lockdowns.
It's shocking at times with its unflinching look at the unprecedented things done to people under the guise of "caring" about public health. Patients sickened and died in total isolation. People were arrested for trying to make a living. Confused elderly couples were separated after a lifetime together. Absolutely appalling and disgusting things were done under the guise it was for our own good.
Featuring interviews with insider doctors, scientists and nurses, it uncovers the ugly lies being fed to the public to manipulate them into a panic. This panic resulted in millions being convinced to mask up, social distance and close their "non-essential" businesses. Meanwhile, large corporations made billions off the lockdowns because they were deemed essential. People became billionaires while a huge number of slipped into poverty.
A must see for every person on earth since (almost) all of us have been affected adversely by the corona virus.
I look forward to the next episode.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Snoozefest
I'm a huge QT fan, but this film could be used for surgical anesthesia. We slipped into a coma watching it.
Boring until the end, it had little character development, disjointed storyline, not a great soundtrack and appeared to be written by a beginning screenwriting student.
I have no idea why reviewers raved about this for it's "nostalgia". Fringed squaw boots and garish old furnishings do not a good film make.
Eleven Eleven (2018)
Could be on a Worst Films Of All Time List
This extremely unfunny, ridiculous film isn't even good enough to get a nod for being so bad it's entertaining, like the film Showgirls.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Stick a Fork in It
This "progressive" version of Terminator was just plain bad, and it's woke female empowerment message made it downright laughable. It's the end of the franchise.
Each T sequel has been progressively worse, no pun intended, and that's a shame since they come from two of the best films ever made, T1 and T2.
I'm sure as long as they made a dime off this stinker, they'll be yet another one to not bother watching.
I wish Hollywood would go back to making entertaining films, instead of trying to social engineer.
Archive (2020)
Odd But Gorgeous
This was a hard film to review. On the one hand, the story is just weird, it's slow paced, boring at times even, but the visuals were stunning. It's worth watching just for those.
The cinematographer, Laurie Rose, has an amazing eye and he creates breathtaking scenes. He deserves an award.
The Amaranth (2018)
Brought to You by the Geriatric Society
One of the worst movies I've ever seen in an ocean of bad films each year.
It's slow, boring and almost everyone is in their 80s. The lead actress is referred to as a "young woman" who doesn't fit in at the retirement community called Amaranth, but she looks like she's in her early 60s.
She ends up pregnant by her geriatric husband. Unlike Rosemary's Baby, the big reveal here---after enduring dreary scenes of old ladies talking about their face lifts and watching people play dominoes---turns out to be nothing. The evil doctor is giving hormones and transplanting organs to keep the residents youthful. That's it.
Go watch grass grow. It will be more entertaining.
Cancer Can Be Killed (2017)
An Interesting Premise But Not Presented Properly
There are serious problems with this film. It tries to make the case that we are treating cancers wrong and there are natural ways to cure cancer. Okay. Let's see the proof. There is no evidence presented, such as scans, doctor notes, biopsy reports, that any of the patients interviewed even had cancer, let alone they were cancer free after foregoing conventional treatment and opting for natural methods.
It's just various people talking about their cancer. They could all be actors or mistaken about what they actually had. We, the audience, has no way of knowing. We're just supposed to trust the filmmaker.
Adding to this serious oversight is referring to the patients as "cured" when they are only in remission. A huge difference. There was only one patient in the film who was cancer free for more than five years, the standard time frame at which a cancer patient can be considered cured. So only one person in the film can legitimately claim a cure with natural treatments. Not a great endorsement.
We also have no way of knowing which patients had conventional treatments and what those were because no medical records were shown and scant medical histories were given. If a patient also has conventional treatment that throws off the results. Their remission could be solely due to traditional treatment and not to the natural methods at all.
I looked up the cancer death rates for Germany, where one of the supposed "cure" treatments is offered, and theirs is just as high as any other country. If this hyperthermia is so miraculous, why are Germans dying of cancer at the same rate everyone else is?
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
The Walking Dead is Dying
This series has had some of the most awesome finales and premieres of any show ever. This wasn't one of them.
Negan is a boring villain. He goes on and on, pontificating about gibberish. He manages to make a Senate filibuster seem entertaining. Makes me long for the Governor.
The beginning was confusing with its back and forth Rick visualizing scenes and being with Negan. Then you find out later these things didn't happen. Again dragging things out in a cheesy attempt to fool the audience about who really got killed as if the months we've waited haven't been long enough.
There's a logic problem with why Maggie didn't seem to need a doctor once they were captured when her pregnancy is the reason they got caught.
Overall, this episode just sucked and it makes me wonder if TWD has just reached its limit.
Van Helsing (2016)
We have enough zombie shows
I'm not sure why this is called Van Helsing since it has nothing to do with the original character. Yes, the female protag is a descendant of his, but she has super powers and special anti-vamp blood her great great grandpappy sure didn't have. Why is she not human?
The vampires look and act like zombie extras from The Walking Dead. Most can't even talk, they grunt and growl. The story lines are weak, the characters uninteresting. It's not good.
I hate rewriting this, but it would have been more interesting to have her face off against a descendant of Dracula. And have this male vampire be a hottie who doesn't drool and crawl around on all fours.
Aftermath (2016)
A chocolate mess
This series is a chaotic mess of natural disasters, fireballs, prehistoric flying beasts, a mind rotting disease, giant worms, wish granting demons, skin walkers, and ufo's rocketing to earth. It's like the writers couldn't make up their minds about what horror to put in so they threw in everything. I keep waiting for Dracula to put in appearance.
It's hard to tell what is going on and if that isn't bad enough, our uninteresting protagonist family act as if this is all something they've faced before. Even though society has completely broken down, their cell phones work.
