Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
This movie should've been called WandaStrange.
Good: Writing and acting amongst the cast was top notch and nobody felt like they could've done a better job. That and the visual effects are what carried the movie for me. Also, the cameos were surprising and set up future films in interesting ways. This movie HAS changed the MCU for the better.
Bad: Just about everything else. I already had set my expectations low because of the overall score of the reviews but I still came out disappointed. The build up in the first Act was exciting and fun. They set up so many things and it felt like a true Multiverse of Madness movie. However, from the 2nd act onwards, it all fell apart slowly and painfully. The villain was revealed way too soon and by the end, I didn't understand their motivation for their actions. The movie sets an excellent foundation for a big finale but what we got wasn't even on par with Disney Plus show finales. Multiversal travel was underwhelming and underused during the 2nd and 3rd acts. 'What If' did it better.
Perhaps this film is the 'Age of Ultron' of this phase. It's a lackluster movie that sets up the rest of the current phase, future movies and even future shows. It's not a bad movie by any means but I do feel like it could've been much much more. Such a shame.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
Yup. I really enjoyed this one.
As a fan of the games, I had an idea of where the story was going within the first 15 minutes of the film. With that being said, the execution of the plot and writing with both new and returning characters, made the build up to the finale very entertaining and worth my time. It's a little slow at the beginning but once Tails and Knuckles join the cast, it's a thrilling race to the finish; and what a finish it is! There are some twists I didn't see coming and I won't spoil the 3rd act which is the peak of the film. Think Spider-Man No Way Home: Sega version! Yes, the 3rd act is that good and it gave me goosebumps. Very enjoyable film for fans and newcomers alike and definitely STAY for the mid-credits scene.
Human Resources: The Light (2022)
I've always been curious about this and it was well executed
So the main story focuses on what happens when a love bug and a human fall in love; it's not good. The way it's portrayed is enough for this to be the only reason and explanation we need. Humans and human resources just aren't compatible. Humans are clients; nothing more, nothing less. Very well done episode and the Rocky cock fight was an excellent B story to compliment the emotional roller coaster of the A story.
Rick and Morty: Rickmurai Jack (2021)
I forgive them for that baby episode
This is what the fans had been asking for since Season 3 episode 7. This one is a must watch for fans of this series. It answers so many questions and also ends with even more exciting questions. Well done to the writers!
What If...?: What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? (2021)
Never felt the need to write a review for this series until this episode.
I've always wanted a Dr Strange story that messed with time manipulation and consequences and this one episode gave me exactly that! I honestly can't fault it. The story, the build up and the pay off is some of Marvel Studios' best work; up there with the high budget movies. Very well done and this just makes me anticipate Dr Strange 2 that much more.
Invincible: Where I Really Come From (2021)
A pet?!
Watch the episode to get the reference above :)
Anyway, this episode gives other superhero shows and even movies a run for their money. I knew what was going to happen based on the tease from the previous episode but the execution was flawless! Honestly, I can't fault this episode. It looked like all the budget went into this one as there's better quality animation and more detail present than in previous episodes. The story doesn't overstay its welcome and it's a very satisfying finale which also leaves room for a second season and possibly (hopefully) more. I'm happy; I'm very happy indeed and I feel fulfilled. 10/10.
Invincible: We Need to Talk (2021)
Simply amazing!!!!
This is the first episode that felt too short for me in the whole season; I wanted more and I didn't want it to end. The stakes are higher than ever before because now the truth is out! I thought this would be the calm before the storm but this is the beginning of the storm! Excellent and well written episode and I can't wait for the finale!
Invincible: You Look Kinda Dead (2021)
Not great on its own but the calm before the storm as a whole
Every character has been established in this episode for the better. We now have a strong connection with all of them so that makes the stakes high for when things do eventually go south (which is a good thing of course). I liked how this episode solely focused on the characters' relationships and responsibilities. It was grounded but also very tense. It sets a great foundation for the final two episodes and I'm all for it.
