Definitely not for everyone

If you don't like philosophical, nihilistic/absurdist subjects- Just don't bother with this film. And those who are into these sorta stuff should: A. DEEP DIVE INTO IT B. If you want full understanding, read some Kafka before watching. Especially "The Bug". It will help connect the dots and themes.

Loved it from beginning to even, even though the cinema was ***.

I was really disappointed that many people didn't like or even understand the film. It is really a missed cinematic gem.

Mini spoilers (which aren't spoilers): Some neurotic dude who lives in a poverty stricken street that just wanted to fly to his mum has the most.... "Interesting" journey.

I did enjoy the film, but... (Spoilers, obviously)
16 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start with the strong points- Penelope Cruz is absolutely stunning & enjoyable in most of the movie.

My first issue with it- Stylistic/Genre editing. Why the heck people/reviewers called it a "comedy" film? It's more of a niche-trying to be wild-drama with a biiiiiiiiiit of funny moments. The editing ruined any time they tried to be funny because most of the film was edited in "Drama" style and not "Comedy" style. And when they could do a comedy style - They didn't, which ruined so many potential punch-lines.

My second issue with it - Predictable. As soon as the director read/explained the story, I KNEW the movie is going to directly reference it in the plot. Including what we saw in the ending. It was in no way subtle. I do like "predictable" endings where everything is subtly hinted so you can feel all smart for figuring it out, but this movie spoon-feeds you.

My third issue with it - Red Herring development. They tease us with the actors developing as people, starting to understand and even like each other in "rivals" sort of way, but they threw it all to the trash with a badly executed twist.

My fourth issue with it - Editing as a whole. From the middle to almost the ending, I felt lost. I stopped caring what was going on. They kept expositioning the lives of the actors in their homes, but... Why now? Why then? Shouldn't you do it and mix it in the beginning to make them more likeable?

My fifth issue with it - Some of the critique get's thrown into the trash (red herring?) - With the annoying pompous character - Ivan. I couldn't stand him. I wanted to see the change and their rivalry having any kind of fruit, but the movie purposely threw it to the trash.

I really wanted to like this film, and the only reason I give it 6 and not 4 is because I immensely enjoyed Penelope & most of the critique about the industry and actors.

Been a long time since I fell inlonve with a film.
29 May 2022
Probably the BEST I've seen in recent years.

It struck fast, it struck hard, it struck everything everywhere all at once.

If you take a moment to disconnect from popular media and judge the movie as it's own you'll love it even more. Comparing it to Matrix, Rick & Morty, Back To The Future and whatnot - it's all pointless and makes you miss the feeling of the film itself.

I can feel so much similarity with the absurdism & nihilism "The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy" offered me. On purpose or not, it matters less, but the feeling of having to deal with the absurdity of life with a straight face - Absolutely stunning and hitting. Just like the book series I mentioned.

Of course, if you don't enjoy or handle less well dark comedy & fast yet complicated plot, don't force yourself. But if you push past the discomfort and try and focus on the philosophical points of the film - I doubt you'll regret it. I've seen so many people miss the point by complaining about the humor or similarity to other things, which is an absolute shame. I don't mind people not liking certain stuff, but for the love of god, at least UNDERSTAND the film first.

Tone
26 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My main issue with this film is the tone. They can't decide if they want a comedic one, a scary one, action one, or whatever.

It annoyed me. Pick ONE. Are you trying to scare me or make me laugh?

I did like how it connected to the previous one, but it kinda got... Convoluted with the ghost-time-travel stuff.

Despite its shortcomings...
13 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'll start with the bad stuff so I can hype you up after.

A) In the movie they stated that after the 'incident' the MC had 10 years streak of being a total loser in his job (being a detective/police man). Despite that, once the plot needed him, he became a savy super-detective that can get whatever he wants. I dislike the dissonance.

B) His relationship with his new partner is both stupid and fun. They start off coldly- Him being the depressed street-smarts cop and her being the energetic newbie. My problem with them is that... At the beginning of the movie the newbie showed she's on top of things while the MC showed he really is in a bad streak. Why did the movie took no steps before making him a super-detective again? His skills came out of basically nowhere. No foreshadowing while also straight up contradicting what they've told us at the beginning. After the beginning, the new partner became obsolete (Until the plot needed her again, of course.) And, come on, we ALL knew they'll kiss by the end of the movie. Geez.

The movie mishandled the beginning of the movie itself and their relationship.

C) The 'villain' and his helpers were quite interesting. The movie should have taken time to introduce them better (especially the shrink and villain). Instead they kinda smeared pointless scenes here and there to fill up the time lol (A mistake many movies do)

D) "Where do powers come from?" -"Either you have them or you don't. Who cares?" B*TCH I CARE THE FRICK

This is my main beef with the movie.

Now! To the good parts!

A) Realism. Truly, they sold their world to me. It felt real, intertwined and alive. Random people having powers, powers affecting the human psychology, villains actually trying and going to seek mental help. Crazy cool and interesting.

B) The action!!! So fun, so dynamic, so cool, and ofc - Superpowers. (And not the BOOM EXPLOSIONNSSS AAAA kind. Well... Most of the time.)

C) Touching real issues. From mental health issues, as mentioned, to school-bullying (and school-shooters), to drugs and addiction and human experimentation with no consent (Not talking about the 'stealing'.)

D) Enjoyment. The characters, after the first quarter, become fun, interesting, funny, dynamic and real. You find out about the little things they like, their personality and overall you get attached. They could have done it better regarding the MC himself, but the support cast is excellent as is.

This movie is a 5.5 or a 6, but I had so much fun I give it a 7.

They ruined my boi
27 April 2021
I watched this with my girlfriend and we both disliked it.

The ending was out of touch with the rest of the movie, and the movie spat all the clue on our face so we won't have to think about the message behind it all. "Show, don't tell".

Beyond that, I read the manga this movie is based on, and it has disappointed me so damn hard.

Could've been so good and the effects were great but... They done goofed.

Everything I ever wanted and I didn't even know it
12 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The only con this movie has is... They didn't pout all of DC's funds into it! All of the funds! This movie deserves it.

First things first, I want to praise this movie for the brave approach they took. For not being scared of showing more violent things that most fans of the animated films are used to. No more "hints" of death, broken bones or violence. The TMNT cast are usually never shown in such physical danger. Yeah, blue marks here and there, but bones breaking and blood gushing? Brave new approach to them. Less for Batman, more to them. Well done Nickelodeon, a great choice! Hinted violence is an annoying form of censorship designed to appeal for a wider range of audience. They went all in instead. Of course, this isn't an ultra-violent films, it's not FULL of blood and bones breaking, but they aren't afraid to show it when it's appropriate.

Tl;Dr - Perfect for me. Hilarious, great action, great characters, amazing fan-service that doesn't take away from the rest of the movie just for the sake of it and even makes it better. The movie is also filled with self-references of both franchises, which makes the dialogue much more fun and interesting and they assume the people watching are probably fans, so it's not loaded with boring exposition either. Only the essential that both party IN THE MOVIE need for it.

The humor is 10/10 thanks to Mikey & Robin. And really everyone else. The interactions between teenagers and such a serious bunch is so hearwarming, awkward and funny.

The action is so freaking good and dare I say the best I've seen out of ALL Batman movies. The choreography of the action - It's grounded in reality, feels balanced and dangerous. They can't just force their way every single time, but to think or trick their way out of danger. We see them get hurt and struggle in many situations, something the rest of the batman films (specifically in the movies of the extended animated universe) cheap their way out of . Either by suddenly making the villain weak (Hush, for example) for no obvious reason or by letting Batman suddenly win in hand to hand combat despite heavily struggling before. In short - This movie DOESNT do that and actually spent time thinking about danger, struggle, thinking, foreshadowing. The only thing I could wish for is a higher quality animation (not that it's bad, but imagine if it was better. Could have made this film 11/10)

The enjoyment of everything and how some characters grew up during the movie is so great. Each character stood out with its own uniqueness, each interaction was interesting and had a fresh feeling since we are basically discovering a new well thought dynamics of character we never thought we would see together.

The plot is rather simple, not outstand-ish but not that stupid either. Surprisingly, the TMNT villain was better than the Batman villain (in my opinion at least) in the grand scheme of things, regarding their "evil plans". So it doesn't take away by being not-stupid, but it doesn't really add too much either. So... it's not bad, doesn't really have holes in it (since it's too simple to have such holes), and you could consider it a classic evil plot, ruined by Batman and friends. But again, TMNT's villain had a more interesting plan and I'm really hoping for a sequel.

The music - Not bad, fitting the mood and action, isn't really memorable either.

Watch this film. The action and characters are so good and the ending is just perfect. The plot is much more of a "Classic" Than recent films, but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment and isn't a bad thing either.

Mixed feelings, but definitely not a waste of time.
6 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'll clarify by saying this - I read the manga first. The first section will be the comparison to the source material. Skip to the latter section for the review of the movie itself.

While this movie is good and stands on its own two feet quite good, it lost the gruesomeness and edge the manga had. First, Ido. One of my favorite characters in the manga. They over-humanized him, and as result, it chipped away from him as a character and simplified him. In the manga he still was the kind doctor, but had more of a "mr. hyde mr. jekyll" complex. Yes, the money was good to keep the clinic going and cheap/free, but he had no daughter and the deeper reason he did all of it - was for fun. For his dark desires. He vented his stress, his inner demons, his sadism and itches towards bounty hunting. From an esteemed doctor up there in the sky, to a small clinic filled with psychos, degeneracy, stupidity and violence. Who wouldn't do the same? Who wouldn't grow inside of him such urges? Oh and he had no wife and the character "chiren" didn't exist. She serves nothing to the plot of the movie either. Now, why did I rant on him? Because I felt the movie took the edge of everything. Zapan, Grenishka and even Hugo himself were wayyyyyy more up and intense, and more interesting too.

"Hurr hurr so why give the movie a 7 if you dislike it altogether?" Because I don't dislike it. Yeah, they took most of the edge of, but kept most of the ideas. Also the action was absolutely GLORIOUS and quite similar to the source material (the source material being more gooi and gory. A LOT more.).

Now, for the movie on it's own -

Action - The action was, as I already said, glorious and spectacular. It felt kind of unnatural and quirky, but later it was choreographed perfectly. Intense, explosive, sometimes felt real. The bar fight was great.

CGI - Surprisingly good. Sometimes even an absolute eye-candy, especially in the action scenes. I expected Alita's face to be a lot worse since they basically declared her eyes are gonna be anime-ish but it was less than I thought it'd be. (in the source her eyes were normal tho. Her lips were big, not her eyes.)

Plot - Good. They didn't change too much and kept most of the major points. The themes fitted and the characters drove the story more than the story drove them.

Characters - I'm very mixed on this. Chiren was unnecessary and her whole story arc didn't make that much sense. The nurse was unnecessary and had no personality. Vector was kinda boring too. Just a puppet. In the source material he was so much more interesting and active. Alita was mostly like her source material, they nailed her character. Ido.... Check my rant in the first section. But as what the movie offers - I feel his backstory was a bit too convenient, and that he later folded too easily to help her play motorball. Hugo felt too much of a pretty boy and "exposition with legs". Nova - I just hope that in the next movie he eats pudding.

Overall, Alita and Zapan were pretty great (except for her cringey "hero speech' which sucked ass). Ido, Vector and Hugo were mediocre. Chiren and Nurse could have been deleted without changing the plot. And sadly, they removed a bunch of characters from the source material. And good ones at it.

Music - It's fine I guess. I didn't notice anything spectacular, but it was good and fitting. Nothing out of place and nothing to bum you out.

Better then usual but... (minor spoilers)
9 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The ending really let me down. The movie was, for the most part, executed quite well. The characters, the development, the action, the love story. Surprisingly, the villain was my favorite part! Badass, smart, batman-esque, and the reveal was really entertaining and cool too. Turning a sucky villain to this piece of art is quite well and interesting. "But... Bob, where is the 'but'?" The villain. Most of the movie he was crazy good, but the end just made his whole image fall apart flat and feel like he was never really a threat. Like there is no more struggle to win. It became... Dull. This is where the movie falls short.

Giving it a 7 purely for the perfect beginning
29 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Just like in "Get Out" - The beginning to the mid is absolutely amazing, but from the mid onward it just falls flat and scatters.

The beginning was perfect. Absolutely perfect. "Who's there?" "You-hoo" Like, come on. Why couldn't they keep it up?!

The beginning- Scary, heart aching, tension, interesting, well filmed. The premise is quite good. "Girl allegedly finds her doppelganger and gets ptsd, years later to find out it was true, and even truer than she thought." Her daughter talks about conspiracy theories, something that SHOULD have been talked about a lot more later on and more dwelt in. Alas, they don't in the middle of the movie, something that really makes the film scatter off. The beginning was truly a piece of a quality horror film. 10/10

The middle- The movie starts taking itself less seriously, but way less seriously. They add jokes while being in the most horrific situations, like; "You can take the boat for all I care" "Dad, no one wants the boat" While they are all crying and shivering of fear. Like, come one. You see how silly it is? I figured out they were going to have to kill their own doppelgangers, because come one it's pretty obvious, and the ways they did it were good and interesting but... The movie lost it's "scary". It turned to some action film (not a bad one, mind you) instead of a horror.

As a horror film, it's a 6/10, but as an action/thriller it's an 8/10.

The ending- The worst part. In short - A bloody X-files movie. I'll give credit to the beginning- They hinted that the tunnels are still being used, but the lack of talk and dwelling on conspiracy theories made the ending fall flat - It came out of no where. A huge twist with almost nothing to indicate about it. Only the text at the beginning, but it's a bad kind of hint. A hint that's literally provided on a silver plate instead of being in the movie itself. Might as well given out fliers with the text before entering the cinema. No (or bad) hints = bad huge twist. Same goes for the mother twist- It even contradicts literally everything the dop-mom said, about how she was born in the facility and never knew warm food and all. And they didn't show that she was brainwashed after being kidnapped or got her memories erased, there was no indication for that in the film so it's just bad writing from here on out. I did notice the mother's growling and violent behavior early on before the twist, and I thought to myself "Wow, the mother's character developed to a protecting lioness!" only then to destroy the image with the bad twist of "she was a violent clone all along" - Something that absolutely contradicts the early phases of her character in the movie. 4/10.

I give the movie a 7 only for the beginning and the potential it had.

Glass (2019)
8/10
Very enjoyable.
5 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
(Contains spoilers)

I'll start with cons and pros and later move to the more... Problematic thing.

Pros:

-Great actions scenes -Great interactions between the main characters -Insanely great performances from the leads -The music -Mr. Glass. -The ending

Cons:

-I specifically disliked the son. He was very awkward and unnatural. -Not enough of the side characters -Lack of foreshadowing of the secret organization. If they had shown the tattoo from the beginning, it would have been better. (Unless they did and I just didn't notice.) -The ending

I absolutely loved the ending. Mr. Glass jump-started his own Comicbook universe, the thing he admired and was obsessed with. I also really enjoyed the ruse, of how he talked about a final showdown at the tower only to confuse the organization and to look away from his actual plot. As he said- "It's not a limited edition. It's an origin story." Once he said that, I fell for it. I fell in love with the movie.

Of course, this ending isn't for everyone. Some would look at it as underwhelming, uninteresting, un-needed twist. I prefer to enjoy this somewhat foreshadowed twist.

I watch this with my little brother sometimes
9 September 2018
And it's absolutely great. I'm 19 and this show makes me laugh like I'm watching an adult sitcom. It's bizarre, educational, and the fact the characters take themselves seriously and aren't 'Dora' style or 'Blue's Clues' style (No jokes, only cute weird animals and abruptly stopping the show every damn minute to ask the audience stuff) means they take the audience seriously.

Taxi Driver (1976)

I was bored.
15 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The movie just didn't touch me at all. I couldn't sympathize with the main character due lack of cause- What caused him to be the way he is. There are no flashbacks and almost no hints except he was in the marines and got an honorable discharge. Beyond that, the description for the movie includes the young prostitute. The problem with her is that she just... Doesn't fit being in the description at all. While being foreshadowed and shown in the start, she only held meaning and importance in the end, when our main character found where to put all his anger and frustration at. At the "company" she was working at, all because his assassination failed miserably. Except of frustration and anger and mental stability, there wasn't much to our main character. He had the Hero Complex, he thought himself to be a hero like in the movies. He had anger that fueled the complex. Beyond that- What's to him? Who is he as a person, aside of the complex and anger? What does he like? What was his dreams, aspirations? He's not that much of a character. I don't see this as a masterpiece. It's the first time I disagree on a movie that is known as a masterpiece by almost anyone who watched it.

So close being really amazing
27 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I'll start with pro's and con's and later elaborate-

Pro's -

I like this kind of horror. They don't scream and jump on you every second, it's abrupt. Sometimes with silence, sometimes it builds up, when you least expect it (like after Bev smashed her father's face), and yeah, sometimes they do scream and jump.

The CGI is quite good most of the times

There is actual character development and somewhat of a story

It's really relateable and silly - All of those awkward teen moments. Makes ya giggle and remember.

The villain is quite quirky and fun.

Con's -

When the CGI isn't good, it's horrible.

There is lack of character development & screen time for Mike (the farm kid), the Jewish kid and the fat kid. (And richie, I literally forgot about him and remembered after writing a whole other paragraph, which is a bad sign for the character.) All the rest got a proper treatment.

The characters dynamics got messed up and wasn't even that good in the begining

The ending.

Elaboration-

I wanted to love this movie, I really did. But I just couldn't.

Mike. The farm kid. The actor was great and underused. They didn't give him enough screen time to actually make him a character. He is basically nothing more than an idea for a character.

Character dynamics. Once everyone got mad and scared over Billy the protag and split up- Something felt... Missed, abrupt, odd, as if it wasn't supposed to happen. All the character dynamics that was there initially (the fat being awkward with bev yet they are both somewhat flirty for example) was gone and we were left with 3 characters that actually do some speaking and action - Billy, Bev and the Placebo/Broken arm kid. The rest might as well have died or dissipated and there would hardly be any difference.

The love triangle. The fact there is a love triangle is already bad. Billy, Bev & Fat kid. And honestly? I rooted and wanted the fat kid to be with Bev, and not Billy the protag. Hell, they teased for it right in the beginning of the movie, and with the post-card! It was the perfect. classic underdog kind of character that has redeemable features against his outer appearance (like standing against the bullies when they pulled the knife, which was great. And the fact he was smart as hell yet quirky, with his love for music.). There was no context or buildup for Bev & Billy aside of Billy hitting on her awkwardly. Suddenly, she only goes to hug billy for the rest of the movie??? And even after the fat kid kissed her and she found out HE sent the post-card- two minutes later and it's as if it didn't happen. The kiss at the end drove me crazy mad and annoyed the HFIL out of me.

The End. Aside fromt hat horrendous kiss, the ending itself was quite... Underwhelming and not very surprising. They hinted all of the movie that fear made the clown strong, but the characters shouldn't have dished it out for the audience. Show, don't tell. And Georgey, why is he dead and the rest of the kids aren't? There was no need to bitter-sweet this if it doesn't make sense.

Lots of potential. But nothing more than that- Only potential. Most of it not used.

Surprisingly good
10 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, it's not the perfect horror movie, but it just rubbed me the right way.

The horror doesn't rely on constant, never ending "scare jumps", but rather on the suspense. Once they imbued the idea that the "bye bye man" can appear any time, anywhere, they really mess with the viewer mind. They force us into constant alert, into suspense. A fear that goes on and on and on.

Also, a plus, is that instead of making everything incoherent and shaking and annoyingly dark, we can actually see what's going on. It's a fault that made me drop tons of horror movies- a fault this movie DIDNT make.

Yeah, the acting isn't perfect, but it's far less than bad. Yeah, the plot isn't mind boggling nor amazing, but it's far less than bad.

Also a plus, I really loved how they tried to mingle with a bit of philosophy there. In the library scene. "If we erase any evidence, it's like it never existed.". Someone there read 1984 (;

Anyways, I recommend it. It's a gem in my opinion. I would love a sequel with a bit more of a lore about the "bye bye man".

Nothing more than pretty. *minor spoilers*
3 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It looks stunning sometimes, and amazing at the rest of the times. But... Really, nothing more than that. The main plot IS interesting, but dished out in an uninteresting way. The dialog is stupid and childish and the main actors aren't terrible, but just aren't good. (I blame the directors on this. The actors seem more than capable.) The male protagonist looks like an ugly-young Brad Pitt. He tries to lower his voice in a way that makes him seems silly and unnatural. The female protagonist is just too predictable. "I'm obviously attracted but I won't admit it until we're halfway in.".

Besides, I don't get why use "Valerian & Laureline" if they won't stick to the original plot and characters AT ALL. They just used the names and shapes and a few concepts- nothing more.

Here are examples of stupidity in this movie:

Valerian shoots with his spaceship in public places, and also uses missiles there too. No regard for innocent people. What Laureline said to the creature. OH GOD it made me cringe (And I don't use this word often. Only when it's true.)

This movie failed to deliver.

Best female protagonist
1 December 2017
This is how I love my protagonist. Badass, hardass, and above all, struggling. Throughout the film, our protagonist struggled- Against her own biology, against her social status and even against politics! The struggles, her outstanding evolution throughout the film, the support cast, it's all very well executed.

Usually, female protagonist will always fall for a man throughout the movie and it will usually have a major part in the plot. Well not here! Her connection to her lover did not change almost anything (in regarding the general plot), which is great. No "lovey dovey mushy tushy" sh*t! It's all her. No "power of love", one of the worst tropes in movies.

Still, it's not a 10/10 movie. Everything was intense, but at a certain point nothing is intense. It reached it's peak and stayed there- No cool down or another, higher peak.

Cons: At a certain point it's not exciting as it first was. The finale wasn't that exciting either. Plot feels too simple at times.

Pros: Great acting Best feminist propaganda I've seen in years Funny, wholesome and badass moments. many of them (and maybe too many)

I loved it!
1 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Watch it if you want to laugh and see batman a little bit goofier than usual.

I understand why the movie rubs some people in the wrong way, but I absolutely love it. It has a nice combination of comedy (which turned people off) & deep moments. Comedy: Batman acting more human and funnier than usual Depth: The scene at Harley's place, when they talked about her... "Job". Comedy: The kiss at the end Depth: Green team's ideology and speeches.

And so on.

This was a unique heartwarming experience. Yeah, this movie is definitely not an objective 10\10 kind of film, but I absolutely loved every moment of it.

13 Reasons Why (2017–2020)
7/10
Surprised for the best. But still..
5 June 2017
I'll try to keep it spoiler free for all of you. (After the edit there will be some spoilers) And this show is 6.5, not 6 nor a 7.

First of all - Almost no "physical action", no explosions or guns or cool fighting scenes.

Now for the juice- The show took existing stereotypes, or as I like to call them, "templates" and inserted them perfectly into the show. At first glance, we see the templates as hollow and shallow - Only as templates. But as the story progresses, or more like the Main Character (Clay) progress, the hollowness and gaps in said templates are filled. Which is refreshing. I never thought I'd find such templates, stereotypes, interesting and insightful.

The next thing, that really kept me tied to the chair (I finished the show IN ONE SITTING) was the politics. So much politics between the "wrongdoers". I loved that. It felt so real. I will not expand on it much, since I'll have to give out spoilers, so watch for yourself for this bit.

And my last praise - The relatability. Not only I could relate to Hannah, I could also relate to Clay and even some of the support/"wrongdoers". It started 'black and white' kinda show, but as the hollowness was filled, the more Grey it became and relatable. (Yet not Grey enough to cover their guilt, but it's just my opinion).

Clay. I want to expand about why I disliked him (at first, almost to the end of the show), but you'll have to watch for yourself. I don't wanna spoil.

EDIT:

Now, after some sleep and rethinking, I'm editing my review. Honestly, there are so many problems I forgot to mention...

1. Many characters don't get development or exploration. In other words, despite filling SOME gaps in the hollowness of the characters, they don't truly break them out of their stereotype.

2. Continuity problem? (SPOILERS!) - They have formed that sort of narrative or agenda that "Hanna's tapes are always true", yet the tape about Zach isn't 100% true and they just let it slide? Isn't it supposed to bring up doubts even if only 95% is true? (Hannah said he threw her letter, yet he shows said letter to Clay)

3. THE MAIN CHARACTER. I can't stress it enough.

4. (SPOILERS ABOUT THE ENDING!!) The ending felt weaker than it should have. I felt as if they weren't focusing enough on Hanna's inner world as much as they should - Even visually. As in I think they should have "shown" her inner world through metaphors, or seeing the world through her effed up mind, etc etc.

Get Out (I) (2017)
6/10
So close to being perfect. But also so far.
3 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It had two, MAJOR flaws. One of them is subjective, one of them is objective. I'll start with the objective one.

The first flaw, is just a plot hole. (Hence, an objective problem). When Chris was tied to the chair, he came out with this idea of using the cushion of the chair as ear-plugs. It's clever, I will admit. But the problem is... How the "other side", the villains, didn't know he did this? Obviously they had implemented a mic. That's a given, since he talked with the blind guy on the TV. But the problem is, that they heavily hinted they planted a camera too. After all, the TV switches on and off when he awakens and drops, which means they SEE him. So how didn't they see he plugged his ears shut? "Security guard not noticing the camera ex machina"?

The second problem, the subjective problem, is the massive race bait throughout the movie, which even contradicts the villain's evil plot! The villains were painted in the beginning as "really really white" and "racist" and "Never seen a black before" or "they is kinda racist man". But eventually, we find out they AREN'T actually racists, but they abduct people based on fashion ("Black is in fashion now") and needs (The blind guy just wanted Chris's body to see like Chris for his gift in the art of taking pics). In other words - The whole beginning to the middle of the movie was one huge race bait.

EDIT:

I thought about this movie some more, and I realized more flaws. For example, right at the beginning - The black guy walked around the neighborhood KNOWING bad stuff are going around. Then he sees a suspicious car. Will he run for it? NO. He's gonna wait 'till the villain comes out and kidnaps him.

Beyond that, the other major black-character was annoying. It felt like they wanted to do comedy, but the humor was meh at best. They should have stuck to their dark tone from the start to the end without trying to spice it up, which effed things up regarding the tone as a whole.

And lastly, it's not "horror". It's a thriller. Or a psychological thriller. But it's definitely not horror nor comedy.

But still, overall, I had fun it was good. I don't think I'll edit it again.

Logan (2017)
6/10
Truly, my favorite Wolverine movie.
1 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It's not 6, but more of a 6.5 - Definitely not a 7. I'll just straight up write the pros & cons -

pros-

Amazing action scenes. The best I've seen in any "wolverine" movie. They were intense with good pacing, excellent camera work and a lot of creative moments. (The grenades, the clone). Plus, they added to some of the action VERY dramatic scenes (Like with the person who hosted them, after Logan fought his clone).

A dark tone which is very intriguing since they executed it nicely.

Interesting plot (But there will be a related con). It starts off as vague, and as the movie progresses, as any good movie, it unravels the layers of the plot and the cause\purpose\destination. (Or all three of them)

Intense, dramatic, emotional moments that just might bring a tear to your eye. (But a related con will show up)

Cons- (Contains major spoilers)

The plot. As much as it was interesting and creative, it didn't deliver for me. The main goal of our characters was to get to a place that just might not exist. But we don't get closure about it. In the end of the movie, we don't get to see the main freaking goal of the movie! The destination! The most crucial thing, and we don't get to see it! Is the destination in the comics truly fake and made up, or it's a hint to a real Eden, safe place, a haven?!

The good dramatic scenes. Again, just like the main plot - No closure. We don't get any closure in the relationship of Logan & the professor. (spoiler) We get a short moment where the professor acknowledges and finally understands Logan... But alas, it was a freaking clone that ended up murdering him, hence Logan (and us) won't get the closure we so much wanted. Only a hinted, or half assed one. 2 more examples of ruined scenes: (spoilers)

1. Laura holding Logan's hand. He ruined the moment with a fit of rage. How I think they should've handled it: Let him stand there for a few moments and just collapse, instead of having a childish fit and then collapsing. The fit painted Logan as a child instead of a grieving & angry adult.

2. When Logan and Laura talked about him staying behind, he talked with the vocabulary & complexity of a 7 years old.

Dull "villains"- They were interesting, but barely presented. I wanted some back story, at least about the mercenaries. (We did get a short summary about that evil doctor guy, so there's that).

And one last thing... HOW IS THAT CONNECTED TO THE MESSY TIMELINE OF THE XMEN SERIES!? It's after "days of future past", or "what if days of future past never happened", like seriously, wtf?

Nerve (I) (2016)
5/10
In the end, I wasn't satisfied
26 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When I initially saw the trailers and plot description, it sounded a LOT like the manga "Dead-Tube" which explores similar themes. (Only with a LOT more gore)- But the manga takes its time exploring the ideas and thoughts about the theme, something the movie half-assed about, which was one of the main reasons that by the end of the movie, I didn't feel satisfied. They had a GREAT concept. The actors weren't bad at all. But the lack of exploring and eventually making the main character say one of the main messages directly really ruined it. She literally screamed at the audience (Us and in the movie) the moral of the story. "Show, don't tell" is an important rule- Both in writing and in film making. Beyond the lack of deep exploration, I felt the music didn't fit. It was too... "Pop" for me. I expected slow songs or scary songs at the appropriate time, but it was all pop pop pop. The lack of diversity bothered me in that aspect. Probably because it felt contradictory - mindless pop vs (a supposedly) deep movie. Or was it mindless? idk, I guess I just dislike pop. But my point on lack of diversity still stands. Moving on! The characters. Two problems. Ian/Sam. How the hell a guy who fights for his FAMILY and his own sake, falls in love in the middle of his own manipulations? It felt forced and not genuine. If he had betrayed her in "the moment of truth" it would feel much more genuine and honest than "well... he just falls for her mindlessly lole". And the fact that the other male character what's his name... The hacker guy. I just felt SAD for him. Even by the end. He didn't even develop a personality beyond the "stereotypical hacker-beta male who's in love but can't express it or something".

Now, a plot-problem - Wouldn't anyone see via their phones the other major player switching to fake bullets? Aren't they under constant surveillance? If you or the movie have an answer for this - I'll up my rating to 6.

I think the movie should have ended like this:

Ian betrays Vee near the end (probably around the snitching part), Vee who is heartbroken yet determined to get her life back and even some revenge contacts her friends to make the plan to crash Nerve. In the big finals SHE AND HER FRIENDS switch all the bullets to fakes (And Vee would've been in charge to do the same to her own gun, yet she doesn't switch bullets in order to get revenge on Ian). She fakes her own death (Since no one knows the bullets aren't real), and then shocks the audience by rising up from the ground and you can imagine the rest. This could have given out the same results in terms of theme and the final message to the viewers (of the movie) with bigger and more fun twists and turns. "The mask of anonymity won't protect you forever, and what you do online can come back like a boomerang".

At least it's my opinion about it.

I Am a Hero (2015)
8/10
Exceeded my expectations
6 April 2017
First, let me say this first - I read the manga this movie was based upon.

This movie depicted the manga beautifully. The zombies were scary,as they should. You could feel how dangerous they are, which is very important in zombie films & shows. If you can't feel danger from the zombies in the film, that film probably has bad characters.

The cgi was beautiful. It looked real and not heavily cgi'd. The ending was awesome.

Watch it. You won't regret it.

Only 3 minor yet big problems with this movie (spoilers)
5 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, this movie is a 6.5, not 6 nor 7.

Now, for the problems.

My main issue with the movie, was the supporting character - That black guy. He was SO freaking annoying, and ruined perfectly dramatic & good moments. This was the first thing that made me lower the rating from 10 to 9.

The second thing is the main character. At the beginning, he was relateable as in acted as everyone. He had a daughter & a wife and pretty much a perfect life (from what we see in the beginning). But... Where did the person go? Where did the guy, who wanted to go out with his family go? He was replaced by a "LETS KILL ALL THE ZOMBIES YYAARRGG IM ANGRY" guy, and every time we saw some of the old (and better) guy, with actual emotions and depth, the black guy ruined the damn moment. "Can I finish the beer?" While the MC is crying over their friend. WTF.

And the last thing, is the beginning. At first they started it as "So what's your story?" And I guessed they'll give out their stories from the FAR past, not like a day ago when they met. They could have just started out the movie with the MC's story instead of "what's your story" because the MC's story already got us caught with the present.

Now, for the good things about the movie.

First, you can actually feel the danger and fear (And sometimes even anger) they get from the zombies. They are not all powerful characters and they don't really try to act like it. Secondly, the beginning was beautiful. A man losing everything without being able to kill himself right after he killed his zombified wife & daughter. I expected such depth for the rest of the movie, but alas- I was wrong. The only other time such depth was reached was when the old person got infected in the car.

Secondly, the super-human sister brain-controlling zombies sub-story that integrates into the main one is really cool in my opinion.

Thirdly, the action is good and interesting, not just BOOM BOOM BOOM. (But of course there's also BOOM BOOM BOOM).

And lastly... The ending is so goddamn satisfying.

I like this movie. There is much you can improve here, but still.

Deadheads (2011)
7/10
I did not expect it to be that good!
1 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine "Warm bodies" if it was funny, with cool action scenes and better dialogue. (And better story.)

It was surprisingly funny, with crude (And somewhat revolutionary humor , personally for me. I never thought you could do a zombie- penis joke that good.). I LOVED the action scenes. How they worked the camera & edited it made them intense and cool.

*Heavy spoilers ahead*

The only thing that prevented me from giving this movie a higher rating, was the really cheesy & unfunny ending. I expected it to be "The main character has grown a lot and stopped being weirdly awkward all the time and he expresses his love in a badass clear way" but instead "lets make it awakward and cheesy. Also lets make her chase after him like 5 meters & kiss him and speak to him in a cheesy weird bad lines kind of way just to make it worse"

God, that ending ruined it. I still love the movie though.
