One of the best in recent memory
I was pleasantly surprised by this show. I hadn't seen any trailers or advertisements for it, so i went in blind. It was gripping from the start.
It is about a town where once you enter you cannot leave. At night there are some monsters that roam free, and if you're not inside with a talisman and window coverings, the monsters demolish you.
It's an interesting story line, with different characters and they are developing the characters nicely. They have different "side" mysteries based on the specific characters that they are delving into, and none seem arbitrary or contrived.
I like the element of mystery. It's well acted and the story is very smooth. I am looking forward to watching the rest of this series!!
Greenland (2020)
Slightly entertaining for the visuals of the comet
Lots wrong with this movie. First the plot has been done over and over. Parents having marital troubles...hate each other. Kid has diabetes. Then all of a sudden... we're a loving family cause comet is going to destroy the world.
Anyway, the mother is dumb as bricks. You need to evacuate your house and you waste time...making PB&J sandwiches? She also somehow thinks the world is about to become altruistic and everyone is going to help them. I haven't seen a dumber box since goes knows when. And this actress, oh god, whining whining crying crying...pull yourself together. It's like the only face she has is just crying. It's really unattractive. She drags her kind into a pharmacy that is being looted. Good move mom of the year.
The father is also really stupid. I honestly can't get over how dumb they both are, it was such a pain to watch. Oh, the kid needs insulin?!? Yeah let's just let that kids lifeline our of our sight.
Once rejected from the flights because the mom is dumb and runs around telling everyone her kid has diabetes....hi why would we want chronically ill people to be taken to save the human race? Anyway, they get separated and run around telling EVERYONE they had been selected but missed the flights (not they they has also been rejected)...thinking what, everyone would be cool with it?!? OF COURSE people are gonna be pissed off which gets bother parents attacked and the kid stolen and blah blah blah...
And then in some unlikely series of events, the BUSES ARE STILL RUNNING and they're all reunited at her dad's house.
Horrible acting, awful story line, the characters are just absolutely unlikeable. They're so stupid it is painful.
Really the only redeeming qualities of this movie is the footage of the parts of the comet coming through the atmosphere. Those are pretty cool. Other than that...thank God I didn't pay for it.
Breach (2020)
Woof. Just don't.
This movie is really, really bad. The acting is atrocious; Bruce Willis is just phoning it in while the other other actors are...over acting? I'm not quite sure.
Apart from the acting, the story is disjointed and confusing. There's no real story, they just kind of *go for it*. It's like a cross between "Prometheus", "Alien", "Life", and a zombie movie but executed really poorly.
All in all, it's really bad. It sounded promising from the description but the actual product is horrendous. There are a lot of "macho" scenes...like a dude putting on sun glasses and carrying a machine gun and dropping really cheesy lines.
Seriously, just don't. This is an absolute disaster. In the end, it seemed like a comedy...of errors.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Hooray! This movie will waste two hours and 22 minutes of your life.
The Avengers are back! Hooray! And naturally with a $316M budget, we could come up with nothing less than this disaster.
So, the plot is this simple: One of the Avengers create something that (of course) they thought would be used for good. But then (shocking) it turns out that the creation is pulling an "I, Robot" or "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and believes humans pretty much aren't capable of taking care of themselves or Earth. Now the Avengers must stop something that they themselves created (irony!)...with the help of two new friends who at first were helping the creation but then realized "oh he wants to destroy humans" so they switched sides mid-movie.
I guess you get to see Robert Downey Jr. play himself so there is that since he does that so well. You also get to see Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson try to fake their way through an Eastern European accent--and fail miserably. The rest just kind of hang out, nothing spectacular acting-wise.
There you have it! Another extremely expensive knock-off of movies past. Completely uninspired and not creative. Don't waste your time (or money, if you can't get it for free). The horrible one-liners are predictable just like the plot.
Go, Hollywood!
Hell House LLC (2015)
Waste of time
After watching this movie, I had no clue what happened. Aside from the "found footage" plot line, there wasn't much going for it. The story and character development was lacking at best.
It is actually unclear what the story line was. It seems to go something like this: 1) A bunch of people buy a hotel 2) Apparently there is some history attached to it (which they never develop) 3) The group's plan is to transform the hotel into a haunted house 4) Some random weird things happen that are kind of creepy but there is no story development to help the viewer with understanding 5) Then people die?
It definitely is lacking plot, which in turn detracts from the "horror" of the film. This movie is just so under developed it is difficult at times to even follow what is going on. It is as if the writer/director just added things in they thought would be scary without thinking why they're adding it or the purpose it serves.
The end of the movie was so dissatisfying. It's really not a horror film at all.
The Break-In (2016)
This movie is so slow.
I've been browsing Amazon Prime to find some thrillers/horror movies to watch and came across this movie. It seemed to get some good reviews, so I thought I'd give it a try. I wish I'd found something else.
First, it is in the same vein as "Paranormal Activity" or "Blair Witch" in that it is shot in the first-person camera perspective. So, not very original there.
Second, the story takes a long time to get going. As in, 65 minutes. It isn't until the last twenty minutes of the movie that it *maybe* gets interesting. Other than that, it is the main character just babbling on and on while recording on his phone. Maybe the story seems original, but when you add in the way it was shot and lack of any meaningful story development it ends up being the same Hollywood recipe.
Third, they throw out a clue here and there about what the end game is (which I'm not going to mention), but I'm sure you can put it together. The "twist" (if you can call it that) seems more like an after thought or a really forced desire to be original--especially since it took so long to reach the climax.
The end result is an uninspired story line that is capitalizing off of the success of thrillers before it. It strikes me as a "get rich quick" scam. No wonder the run-time is one hour and eleven minutes; there isn't enough story to have even 90 minutes of film.
I guess if you're bored it's a way to kill time. Or maybe put it on the background at a party. You don't really have to watch the film to figure out what was going on.
