Bob Marley: One Love (2024)
Impossible to do
My first trip to Jamaica was 1973.
In 1990 we went to Jamaica to film a commercial for Jamaica tourism. The campaign ran ten years. We shot to playback and Babi Floyd sang it, R. I. P.
First off, a Jamaican accent is impossible to fake, as seen by this film. The writing becomes then even harder. I so much wanted to love this film, but it lacks in so much. All respect, but we learned the Jamaican government does not identify with Rastafarian culture one bit. Everything feels forced in this film.
They should have used his music but I have the feeling copyright forced it into mediocracy. Much respect to Bob, and all the Jamaican people.
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
Should have been a contender!
Really nicely shot for then. I think they needed a director who could understand
American dialogue , which is where I net out . Even with DeNiro and his supporting cast , the dialogue falls flat.
The Williamsburg sequences are not very realistic or buyable. It's slow paced and really needed a Scorsese or a Coppola to pull off these sequences. It's far from a spaghetti western and pandering at times. It's poorly cut and some of the dissolves are not well used. It could have been a half hour shorter.
I'm watching it now for the fourth time or so and really have not changed my mind about it. Still worth watching.
Bodyguard (2018)
No need for this one bit
I love Julia from the Durrells of Corfu.
I open by saying this was so dark and depressing , mostly unnecessary. I was in NYC on 9 11. I lived in Lebanon and Israel. It paints a dark picture darker. First, I believe calling by the enemy Asians is a mistake , politically correct but geographically wrong. All these years later, we don't need to bring up this hatred. There is nothing so breakthrough in the filming or the plot to make this notable. Nothing so well written in the script, you couldn't forget.
Maybe those who didn't live through these horrors find this appealing. These are wounds of the world we need to heal.
Good Day Sacramento (1995)
All the White news!
I have been watching for 15 years. I'm embarrassed but the only local show. I've seen them advertise guns, religion, and racism. Talk about the lack of sensitivity to others. They are an insult to journalism , but mostly to themselves. But for me the lack of separation of church and state. The station manager uses anything to promote Christianity . Fine for you personally but on the air. Ambulance chasers, creepy lawyers but most of all, the "I should retire crew". Today they had a segment on Christ strength. John Paul as dubbed " John the Serb " Jordan is so self afflicted. The rest waiting to retire. A true embarrassment. Divide us some more. Freakin embarrassed!
Belfast (2021)
Stunning
Not surprised this film was nominated for so many awards. The Cinematographer did an absolutely wonderful job. Combine this with the art direction and period set equals a superb.
Cloud Atlas (2012)
I'm with the vote
Didn't know it was voted worst of 2012.
Stilted dialogue and some awful efx.
Can't believe Toll shot this.
Death at a Funeral (2010)
What Happened?
All this great talent. Not funny, even with Chris Rock. Should have pushed it further.
