Sandra saab tööd (2021)
Not for everybody - but I could relate.
Sandra is a highly qualified specialist in her 40s and loses her job. Follow her through her melancholic journey finding a new one, applying for stupid jobs in stupid companies ( you know, all these scrum infected positive team bonding fun to be party companies and start-ups), struggling with her daughter and her parents and of course with money. It's not a comedy but it touched me as I am in the same situation workwise.
If you're into Hollywood, if you're not interested in slightly depressing eastern european/scandinavian way of life, don't watch it. Also I am not sure if people under 40 can appreciate it. I could.
Voyagers (2021)
Better than expected
Read some reviews here during the movie - it was a mistake. I liked the movie for a couple of things, mostly I found the plot idea was interesting, the setting was good and the overall performance of all the actors was good. The movie also raises some interesting topics and thesis, like: What is it really to be male, if education and upbringing doesn't interfere? Are we by nature that violent an reckless or not - or only some? What percentage is genetic? I enjoyed the movie and in my opinionm it was a lot better than the score the movie gets here.
The Optimists (2017)
Great - even for people NOT interested in Soviet Movies
I must admit I am very interested in this time, the time just before the cold war, when USA and Russia somehow were still together in having won WWII. But even if you're not, I bet you'll like the series.
It's interesting to see that time from the other side. The story is good, the acting is great, the actors are great and the styling is perfect. It's good to see for once not the poor aggressive vodka drinking russian mafia but a time full of new things and hope for a better future. I can not recommend this series enough - it's indeed a very optimistic piece of film making from Russia.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Why could you cast her?
How can you cast the leading actress that has less charisma than the oldest piece of furniture in the movie. I am sorry, but apart the series being really slow, this is an unbearable flaw. I survived until episode 6. The only part she'd be good at would be a dead body.
Designated Survivor (2016)
Season 3 fixed the flaws of the previous
Non American / non native english speaker here. I just finished the season and I liked it. While season two was more like - the daily adventures of a president - (plus a car accident), season 3 was more focused and coherent. The loss of Hannah Wells though means there will be no season 4. She was the main star.
Under the Eiffel Tower (2018)
Complete waste of time and utter nonsense
The movie is just bad. Acting is bad, story is full of plotholes, characters are badly developped and so on. BUT: Is it funny? No. Is anything credible? Not at all: There are no direct flights from St. Louis to Paris, it's impossible to catch up with a train that goes 200 mph, french country people are not dressed like in the vogue, they are not constantly wine drinking (I mean, at 8 in the morning, not if you're a lady) and many more things that make you think: Hey they made that movie for Americans who have never been abroad, paid by the french tourism office.
This movie made me angry and I want my time back.
