The Last of Us (2023)
A great take on a masterpiece game
I'm writing this on episode one, so if my view changes I will update this. After watching the first episode it seems that series balances a hard tight walk of honoring the source material created in the video game and making a few changes that add more meaning and depth. The casting is great and Joel fits. I think it easy to want all the other characters to be carbon copies from the game, but the differences don't seem to detract in this case, but allow a different perspective of these characters. Visually the show looks great as well and pulls me straight back into a world I have spent dozens of hours in and love getting to revisit.
Las tres muertes de Marisela Escobedo (2020)
Heartbreaking
I had no background of this case prior to watching the documentary. Just when I would think the story was starting to slow down, it would take unexpected twists and turns. The injustice Marisela (and her family) experienced is truly heartbreaking. Yet, Marisela herself must have been an incredibly strong person to seek justice for her daughter, while putting herself into danger. I highly recommend watching this. Just be prepared for an extremely sad documentary.
