Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
Exactly what I wanted from Weird Al!!!
As a child of the 80s whose sense of humor and taste in comedy, as well as music, was largely shaped by Weird Al, from the parodies, to the original songs, and UHF, this movie is perfect. In the increasingly overcrowded musical biopic genre, it seems commonplace to add made-up storylines to make these films more dramatic. Thankfully, they didn't do that here: just a straightforward story of Al Yankovic's extraordinary life. It's also the first movie I have ever seen that can hold a candle to the Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story. They are telling me this review is to short and it needs more characters. Ah. There we go.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Expectations
I think this is exactly where a lot of women are of this age. Watching the world change while we change inside of it is difficult. That is life. Dealing with loss and change, having to process unmet expectations. I think this show deals with those things in an honest way.
Saved by the Bell (2020)
A reboot that doesn't try and do the same thing.
This show manages to bring the same feeing as the original while also being completely different. It finds a way to address modern social issues while poking fun at everybody on both sides of those issues. It pokes fun at the original characters, and doesn't try to present them as heroes. It uses them to drive the new cast. It's hard to separate the nostalgia from the new show to give this a proper rating. But if you grew up with saved by the bell and have enjoyed the occasional rewatch of it over the last 35 years, you should be able to find something you enjoy in this. But what do I know, I even enjoyed the unauthorized saved by the bell story.
Long Shot (2019)
Wonderful romantic comedy
It's been a long time since a romantic comedy was well made without a lot of the modern dirty humor. This one crossed the line a little too far once or twice for me to recommend it to my 70 year-old mom. But I enjoyed it, and it had a ton of laughs. They can't all be the unauthorized saved by the bell story but this was super fun to watch.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
It's no unauthorized saved by the bell but ...
This made a decade of going to the movies worth it. I couldn't find the part with AC Slater the first time I watched it. So I watched it again. It's the only movie I have seen in years that holds a candle to the unauthorized saved by the bell story.
A Dog for Christmas (2015)
Not sure why I'm still watching this
The main character of the movie is not a dog or even the girl who wants the dog. It his her father who is simply an awful person with a hot wife. The highlight of this movie is actually Dustin Diamond who gives the performance of a lifetime-his lifetime anyway. I'm going back to watching the unauthorized Saved By The Bell story again.
Who Gets the Dog? (2016)
My dog didn't even like it.
My dog usually barks like crazy every time an animal is on the screen. He didn't even care about this dog. So why are these two fighting over him? Before you watch this, you should just watch the Unauthorized Saved by the Bell story again.
The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story (2014)
It's a lifetime movie
Best movie ever. I can't believe it didn't get a theatrical release. My wife made me watch it once and now we watch it first thing every Saturday morning mostly because our local tv stations just stopped showing saved by the Bell reruns on Saturday mornings last month. It's definitely the next best thing. And the only movie I have watched in the last 14 years.
