Kimi no na wa. (2016)
This turned me into an anime fan.
There are no words to describe my feeling towards this anime. Every single aspect of it is simply amazing. I have seen it multiple times and each time I end up mesmerized. The story, the artwork, THE SOUNDTRACK - I instantly fell in love. Before seeing it, I didn't really watch anime, long story short, now I do.
Crna svadba (2021)
A solid 7/8
Not going to lie I expected nothing from the show and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm sad this is a Serbian production only because it probably won't get much attention. If it had a Netflix logo and English subtitles it would have been a hit, I also have to add that everything they talk about is actually pretty accurate unlike most shows I've seen.
The Fight Before Christmas (2021)
So weird...
I hated every minute of the movie. It was just so, for the lack of a better word, weird. The main character is unlikable and I wanted to turn the movie off when her token gay friend used the word "breeders" to describe an average heterosexual couple. Besides that, the movie tried way too hard to be modern, like way too hard.
I also feel like a 28 year old, fully grown, woman should behave like such a brat. I get it, no one wants their parent to date their high school friend but at times it felt like she wanted to replace her mother.
Lady Usher (2020)
Predictable and definitely not Gothic!
When I read the description of the film, I immediately wanted to watch it, "gothic", "creepy" and based on a poem by Edgar Allan Poe, sounds amazing, right? Wrong! Watching the film was pure torture for me, the way it was shot was bad, the vision is there, I get what the film maker was trying to do but it was very poorly executed. I've seen better cinematography in some no budget B list horror films, but since that is only my personal preference I won't focus on that.
The characters were poorly written and undeveloped, which made me hate every single one of them. Chemistry between the main character and her boyfriend is basically non existent which made it so painful to watch, it felt like the actors were threatened at gun point to film most scenes. I have better chemistry with a bottle opener. The twist at the end was expected so I wasn't surprised about that.
Even tough I didn't like the characters, the script or the cinematography the thing that bothered me the most was their portrayal of gothic clothing, architecture and behavior. The costumes looked like cheap items from the Halloween store, even the color shades were completely off. It just looked so bad and cheap, I can only say that I ordered higher quality items on AliExpress. It felt like whoever was in charge of that googled "Gothic" and read the wikiHow article. Printing out a stock picture of a raven is not gothic and sadly that was the most gothic part out if it all.
I've seen a lot of films in my life, both good and bad, intentional or not, I love watching independent films but this one was just bad, I know many films that are also independent but they deserve an 11/10, this one on the other hand deserves just the 1.
The Green Knight (2021)
Overly pretentious and boring!
The Green Knight completely ruined the material it was based on, I was beyond disappointed after watching it.
Every scene felt pretentious and most of them were unnecessary, contributed nothing to the plot and were just pointless, not to mention boring. Besides me being bothered by the film trying to be "deep" I was also annoyed by one of the worst CGI foxes I have ever seen. The only good part of the whole film were the beautiful filming locations as well as the good camera work but that isn't enough for me to think the movie is even worth two stars. I would be happier just googling the castles.
I've seen many films, both good and bad but this one was by far the worst one yet.
